Huge huge disappointment.
I'll start by saying that this is an experience that is way over priced for what it is. Although the reservation was for 6pm they didn't start sitting till 630; they offered complimentary house drinks (but it would've just been good to know that sitting was actually 630pm). It was also communal sitting which is not my favorite and opened sharing the experience with others and having to hear about it when it was not welcomed. The room is somewhat conference/ballroom mix so it does not have a restaurant/dining feel. Service was okay, most servers were attentive and friendly. The whole pace of the experience is choppy and slow, often having too much time between the courses and having to wait for everyone else to finish so they can move on. I believe I was expecting something more interactive with the guests and the actual food. It felt like a movie was just playing on the table. The story line was slapstick humor and somewhat G rated so there was little interest and captivation. There were some highlights with the food and presentation was beautiful. The Halibut was absolutely delicious, not only flavor but perfectly prepared. The NY Strip loin was just okay (it didn't even seem like the right cut of meat advertised) it didn't have much flavor and could not be cooked to ordered. The crème brûlée was a disaster (see video) it was soupy and clumpy. Again this whole experience could possibly be executed much much better or change it to target kids by changing the menu. Overall I would not do it again and will not be recommending this.
Be the first to ReplyUnfortunately, our reservation for what was supposed to be
Unfortunately, our reservation for what was supposed to be a special occasion dinner was canceled. We should have had our experience on May 19th. We both left work early to ensure that we would arrive on time only to find out it was canceled once we got there because of "staffing issues". The hostess was kind and told us that we would be given a refund, but to give it a few days before checking in. She gave us the email of someone who is in charge of the event. We left disappointed but understanding. Now, after nearly a month, 4 phone calls, and 3 emails I am less understanding. I had no other option but to file a claim with my credit card company to try to recover the $270 taken to hold the reservation for an event that never happened. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and authorities after reading the reviews that I am not the only one who's money was never refunded. My hope is that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Such a disappointing experience! A friend and I were very much looking forward to spending the evening at the 3D Dining Experience at CIA Copia on 5/12/23. We booked this experience a few months earlier when we knew our travel dates to Napa. On 5/6/23, I received a voicemail that the dinner experience had been cancelled and they would like to rebook us for another date. That was not possible, since the 12th was our only available night in the area. I immediately left a voice mail stating we would need to obtain a refund. The following day, I received an email stating the dinner had been cancelled, and they were hoping to reschedule us. I immediately emailed back, again requesting a refund. One week later, I had not received a refund, so I called/left voicemail and emailed stating I had not heard anything, and had not received the refund. A few days later, I received an email reply stating the refund had been initiated and it would take 7-10 days. It has now been over the ten day maximum, and still no refund has hit my credit card. I so wanted to enjoy a lovely dining experience at the CIA, instead I'm still waiting for my refund from a dining experience which they cancelled and just now completed a dispute form with my credit card company. Disappointing to say the least! Update: 6/5/23 Still no refund from CIA Copia. It has been almost one month. Very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplySo much fun, a different dining experience.
Nice trio of starters, the best being caviar on a crispy potato puff. Main was a perfect sable fish, large delicate portion, sooo moist. Waygu beef short rib fell short, very dry. Great pastry desserts. Definitely a thing to do with another couple, no more, really noisy room The 3D show: original, funny lines, a different experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service.
This experience was inside of The Grove and the entire CIA building and center it is in has an Amazing vibe. As for the 3-D experience itself, it was underwhelming in my opinion. Price point doe not match the food or show for that matter. The 3D experience was cool.
Be the first to ReplyWe were disappointed in the 3D dining experience in Napa.
The meal was very good but all else lacked the CIA's typical level of excellence. The storyline was weak, language used (animated character's "butt" was referenced multiple times), table width restricted conversation and staff direction was overly casual ("Are you all ready?!"). We highly recommend alternate CIA dining options, pass on the 3D event.

It was fantastic - Our experience was close to Christmas time in New York on the 48th floor at The View Restaurant. We enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and champagne upon arrival with the view of NY city lights. The food was amazing. Every course was tasty from beginning to end. Staff was professional and attentive. It was memorable.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! The food and show were mediocre at best. The presentation was promising but one taste of the food was enough to make you sick. Everyone in the communal table looked so disappointed, some dishes were barely touched. For $155 per person, we expected more than bite-size portions. Our party left with upset stomachs. How can we get our money back?
Be the first to ReplyUnique experience with a fun show and delicious food.
Service was great. Before show you're offered a peach? bellini and yummy apps. Once seated the show begins and doesn't pause. Tables are four tops, so likely you'll sit next to people you don't know. Will recommend!!

I read all the reviews and did not expect good food but still wanted to go for the experience. Well I had a great experience. The food was good and unlike other reviews it was warm and seasoned well. Service was great and the experience is worth trying at least once. I do recommend not sitting across from each other as the table is too wide to have any conversation so don't take their advice on that. When you show up the Le Petit is through the doors for the Grove Restaurant. There is wine and sodas at 6 pm until 6:30 pm for free. Then you enter and there are two long tables that u all sit at. The dinner took about 2 1/2 hours (plan to be done at around 9 pm). It's a bit pricey but you will leave full and have a unique experience. I would recommend to the restaurant that they provide either bread at the beginning or naan for the curry dish.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible experience.
We went to the one in Mexico and it was amazing. This was totally different. The picture of the projection was blurry. The food was actually horrible and boring for $155 a person, plus alcohol. The chicken was gross and the dessert wasn't edible. The wine that it was paired with was also not drinkable. Truly a refund is in order.

Le Petit Chef is cute in the way that an uncoordinated toddler wiggling to pop music might be cute. It's cute in the way that a suave, attractive stranger might invite you to an intriguing date.. before pulling up at IHOP. I so badly wanted to give an A for effort to the CIA students who take part in this production but the execution was unfortunately, laughably amateurish. My friend and I wanted to celebrate our 10-year friendship with an interesting food experience in Napa so we signed up for this. I noted the widely mixed reviews but still wanted to see for myself what 3D dining entailed. It turns out the most expert part was the marketing of it.We got to CIA a little early on a Saturday afternoon and walked around the campus a bit. The second floor had a cool museum displaying cooking tools through history featuring an entire wall of brass bundt pans. The outside gardens against the backdrop of the river was also peaceful to stroll around in. Close to 30 minutes before the event, some staff started setting up a drink stand and offered free beverages to get us started. As the designated driver for the night, I immediately began with 2 pours of Prosecco. That was probably where I got my money's worth of food for the night. Overall, I think the menu fell super short of even my humblest wishes. Firstly, while it's technically 6 "courses" the portions are very small and include an intermezzo consisting of 3 spoonfuls of sorbet. Otherwise the courses themselves featured pretty unoriginal bite-sized portions of generic grocery store quality foods that any middle schooler could have slapped together (e.g., olive tapenade and garlic aioli sound exactly like they came out of a jar labeled as such). The autumn fattoush salad was possibly my favorite course, though the switch from mint vinaigrette to yogurt dressing was a last-minute, unannounced change to the menu that really ought to have been communicated. The idea of representing each country Le Petit Chef visited along Marco Polo's spice route was fine, but India and China actually have incredibly diverse cuisine and it felt like a huge letdown to see them reduce the representation of each culture to the most blandly stereotypical dish one can think of, not to mention the complete lack of any distinct spice. I began to wonder if they actually used the spices displayed in bags on a cart in the open outside the event entrance, because the taste of spices was either dull or just nonexistent in these dishes. In addition, my dining companion got the beverage pairing, which cost on average $10 per drink and included a 6 oz glass of Scrimshaw Pilsner which you can get pretty much anywhere alcohol is sold. He also noted that none of the beverage pairings actually complemented the dish it was matched to. Finally, the saffron rice pudding, with its crème brûlée crust, was a nicely presented dessert with the exception of the serving temperature - make it hot or chilled, but tepid? Easily the worst of all decisions. You know it's bad when every time a dish was announced, I had at least 10 ideas of how I could have done the course differently - when I heard Himalayas, the first idea that came to mind was a cup of spiced chai paired with a momo; not a sorbet that they had the bright idea of pouring hot water around just to make a sad chunk of dry ice make a little fog effect (also, hot water melts sorbet). As a creative home cooking enthusiast who's thrown my share of dinner parties, this event just proved to me that no one needs to go to culinary school to plan an amazing food event. While I accept the considerations around food procurement, scaling of labor, and financially breaking even, this production was completely lacking compared to the many restaurants that have been able to do amazing things on a budget. This experience was definitely not worth what I paid for - if I were to count it in terms of food. However if I were to help CIA out by justifying the cost of this experience, it would be:- the appreciable service efforts made by the hostess and waitstaff- recoupment of development costs of the animation and projection technology- free complimentary drinks (especially Prosecco) offered prior to dinner- the conversations with the people around us who were all quite open and happy to contribute commentary- a reaffirmed belief that absolutely no one has go to culinary school to understand good food and make it in the restaurant industryDue to the combination of small food portions and quickly chugged Prosecco, I woke up the next day to a hangover so annoying it inspired this review. C'est plutôt amusant, non?
Be the first to ReplyNot what you'd expect.
We came to celebrate a birthday, I wish I had checked the reviews on here before making the reservation. The visuals were fun but the food definitely did not deliver. There was a lot of inconsistencies - the rice pudding was the worst of the dishes, the flavor was good but there were clumps of old rice and even clumps that tasted like old plain rice. The temperature of the dishes felt like they were below the 'safe' warm temperature. There was a party in front of us that ended up leaving after the 3rd dish arrived. I'd be lying if I said I didn't consider it myself.. The price just didn't match the experience.
Be the first to ReplyI unfortunately was severely disappointed with the food
I unfortunately was severely disappointed with the food from tonight's meal. It started off great with the sparkling wine greeting and it got me excited for the the menu. The presentation of the spice cart was a good visual representation to what to expect. Keyword EXPECT, but not GIVEN. The person explaining the courses really just read off of the menu in front of me and didn't add anything else to it. On top of that some parts of the meals were lacking seasoning (well really just bland). I was expecting the chef special (rice pudding) which was super entertaining to watch for the 3D aspect, but again was a disappointment. I wanted to take a picture of all the rice puddings that weren't fully eaten and left on the table to prove my point, but I figured that didn't even deserve that much attention. Overall I was expecting more and for the the cost of it $155/person it severely was not worth it at all. I should have just gone to a Michelin star for the price I paid for this "experience". For this being part of CIA I am kinda baffled at how they have their name on this. Hopefully it will change and get better because the idea is creative, but was under executed. I will not be returning nor telling people to try this out. Spend your money elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyWe drove eight hours from Los Angeles for this dinner.
At 2:30 that afternoon, a woman called to tell me that our dinner had been canceled and she would give our money back. Then she didn't explain the reason in detail, even no apologize, just sounded like she was telling us,didn't care how we felt. It was a really "good" experience!Good luck with your business!
