If you love Northern/North-eastern Thai food, this place is the must!
Superb taste, authentic ingredients, highly recommended for anyone who craves for authentic Northern/North-eastern/Laotian cuisine. For dessert, I really love sticky rice and jackfruits; really sweet and tasty.

We didnโt have reservations and tried our luck getting an outdoor table. Put our name down at 7 pm for 4 ppl (my husband, two sons, and me)โฆ another larger group of 6 came after us and didnโt have reservations either. They were seated outside 30 mins later and we were still waiting. I asked the hostess (girl with very short hair) why this was and when can we expect a table outside (there were plenty of empty tables outside) and the hostess said she had already told me she couldnโt guarantee us a table and thought it would be better for me and my family to go somewhere else after weโd waited for almost an hour. Mark, the waiter that seated the group of 6, said not to worry and apologized. He led us to a table right next to the heaters and gave us the best service ever! Thank you, Mark! Food-wise, itโs very flavorful and portions and prices are fair. As a person from SEA, the spice level and some ingredients are not catered to us but to Caucasians. If you are not used to service charges, 20% is automatically added and that doesnโt count as tip.

My Tofu Northern Noodles were absolutely delicious, as was my fighting tiger cocktail. Cool atmosphere. And Dionn was a wonderful server!

The food is good, wok noodle and mango sticky rice, both rrally delicious. Silvia who served the food is really nice and polite. I recommend this cafeteria
Be the first to ReplyFirst visit was great, second would have kept me from coming back
Let me start off by saying the staff is fantastic, especially Julia. Now to the food reviewโฆ. I had come here one previous time while visiting DC and loved it. I happened to be visiting from out of state again so i decided to come by for dinner. Last time I had the Wok Noodle and it was fantastic. That is what made me come back. This trip I got the Northern Noodle. Had this been the first dish I had I would not have come back. The description for the dish was โsteamed and crispy noodle, chicken, onion, pickled radishes, cilantroโ. The dish is also noted as PHET which is supposed to mean spices. When the dish came out it was covered in so much curry it was basically a soup (please note that there was no mention of soup or curry in the description). The chicken was a single fried drum stick mostly sunken in to the โcurry soupโ. The only flavor you got was yellow curry and there was so much liquid it difficult to eat the fried drum stick (which was soggy due to the amount of liquid). I ate about 1/3 of the Northern Noodle soup and just could stand it anymore. Decided to order a slice of the good looking strawberry cheese cake I saw when going to my seat. Ugh, disappointment strikes again. While the cheese cake had flavor, the strawberry sauce on top tasted canned and had set up like it might have had a little gelatin in it. The cheese cake might have had gelatin too as the consistency was close to a no-bake jello cheese cake. Maybe Iโm being harsh on the desert because of the huge disappointment of the main meal. Will I try Laos again, maybe if I lived near by. As a visitor from out of town I might (if staying near by), but not likely as there are so many other options in DC. Now Iโm off to find a snack somewhere as I am leaving still hungry.

Our server had little/no knowledge of the menu and couldn't answer basic questions to clarify what type of fish was served and further details of the chicken dishes. He showed no initiative to find out and come back to us. The starters arrived promptly, as did the main courses before we had finished the starters. The small table meant all the plates could not be accommodated and we had to hurriedly transfer the starters to our main course plates. The chicken curry was OK except that the aubergines were not sufficiently cooked. The Orm main course, marked as being spicy, was insipid with a watery sauce that lacked taste. The aubergines were also under cooked. On providing feedback the Orm main course was removed from the bill and our dissatisfaction conveyed to the chef and manager. I'm not sure if the server was new into the job but there is a strong case of some training being required to improve his knowledge and general attitude.

We decided to try Laos in town for restaurant week. We went on a Saturday and managed to find on street parking a 5 minute walk away. The weather was super warm so we were glad that we booked seats inside however depending on the time of year the outside seating looked tempting. There was a great set of food choices, the restaurant week menu was $40 for three course but the restaurant also has a vegan menu and a standard menu, The costs was reasonable for the a la carte choices on the menu for a restaurant of its reputation. I would gladly go again and I recommend this as a fun venue to try Laotian food in a nice setting.

This was not only my first visit to a Laotian restaurant but also to a Michelin starred restaurant. My husband, daughter, and I all enjoyed our dining experience. Our food was delicious, and our service was amazing.

amazing food, great staff, and a beautiful location! My husband and I enjoyed an amazing night in this restaurant! I can not wait to return and taste the rest of the menu!!

The fried fish dish was amazing and the overall experience at the restaurant was very pleasant. I would recommend 100%
Be the first to ReplyNice special night out
Food was quite good - some dishes better than others. The crispy rockfish was both delicious & had a great presentation. The crispy chicken rice was tasted great, but looked a bit underwhelming. The snakehead curry was nothing to write home about, but was tasty. The ground pork main dish was just marginally okay. Of the appetizers we ordered, the calamari was wonderfully different from the typical fried calamari. The chicken hearts were unique and tasty (but beware the super hot accompanying sauce!) itโs been a while since weโve ordered wine, but a basic screw-top bottle set us back $52 - shockingly high.

The food is good: whether Laotian or not, I cannot judge. Cocktails excellent. Deserts? Weird. We booked for 6, but got only 3 tables for 2 each. Very noisy, not only from many people ( always a good sign) but unnecessarily loud music/noise from loudspeakers somewhere.

A very good experience, the food was exquisite and the service faultless. The minced pork dish I had as a main was very authentic, and took me back to happy days spent in Vientiane, especially as it was washed down with beer Lao on draft
Be the first to Replya great food option
looking for a dinner place and the menu here looked good and never tried laotian food so decided to give it a go. it was easy to order over the phone and ordered the fried tofu appetizer and the crispy chicken with ginger rice. the fried tofu was good - extremely crispy and the flavor underneath was good, a bit spicy but flavorful. the chicken was also good with a nice serving and good flavor overall a great food option
Be the first to ReplyRestaurant week flop
Terrible meal during Restaurant Week. Our group of 3 ordered the Restaurant Week menu and asked our server if main courses were shareable, which she told us they were. We specifically said weโd like one of each dish EXCEPT the soup, so we could easily share, but when the food came out 2 of the 3 dishes were soups, to which she replied โthose are also soups, they just donโt have the word soup in their name on the menu.โ Huh? This made for awkward sharing and, at the end of the meal when we explained this to a manager, she apologized but did nothing to offer a discount or anything else. We wonโt be back.

I wouldn't buy from here again. Poor quality food, badly organised and poor value for money. We had the chicken, spicy pork and shrimp... all 4 shrimp. The noodles were over cooked and sloppy, Chicken was dry and tasteless, Pork was surprisingly ok. Went to the web site, it said 1/2 hour to wait for delivery. After the order was placed it went up to 11/4 hours and we planned accordingly. The food arrived an hour earlier than we exepected and, as mentioned it was over cooked. At $80.00+ there was plenty of tasteless starch and little enough of anything else. Never again.
Be the first to ReplyPricey but questionable on who they accept as guests
Though I and several of my friends have ordered delivery of their delicious food, we actually decided to pay a personal visit to the restaurant. We had maks on and were appropriately dressed, however, to our dismay we were greeted by two women who looked at us like they had never seen POC before in fact it was so glaring we were shocked by the reception we received at the hostess desk upon entry -- it was obvious by there 'glare' that we weren't expected for dinner and then were told all the tables are "reserved" and that the wait is at least one (1) hour. As we eat out regularly at various places around the City I have never heard of a 1-hour wait for a table to clear -- 45 minutes maybe but not an hour. As they continued to stare at us we looked around and notices many empty tables throughout the restaurant. With no people of color at all anywhere in the heart of DC, I am wondering if other brown people have been turned off by this reception. Though their prices are high we thought ordering food from this restaurant meant a welcome -- but now it seems everyone is welcome except people-of-color. Not a good situation. I hope they will adjust their attitude soon -- we won't be back for a while.
