The food is extremely good and fresh.
The drinks are phenomenal. We created our first hot pot there and they were very helpful.

Wanting hotpot in Providence is like wanting ice water in the desert. There are so few spots, and none are amazing. LaMei tries, but I just don't feel like the quality is very high. The broth is so-so, and the more expensive proteins are shaved razor thin. I'm not one to quibble about prices if either the food or the service (or both) are great; but here the service is by definition hands off, and the only prepared food is broth. Oddly, the place seems to either be slammed or totally empty. Fortunately they have their own lot, which in downtown Providence is often a reason to eat somewhere on its own. The restaurant itself is very brightly lit and can get loud. It's a fun family meal where everyone can talk and have whatever they want, and with hotpot being in short supply we've been several times and will probably go back. But it's nothing to write home about.

When you're craving hotpot, LaMei is one of the few spots to visit Providence. It satisfies the hotpot craving but doesn't quite hit the spot. LOCATION: LaMei has their own lot so easy to find parking. The place is decent in size and great for couples or groups. MENU: They offer your basic hotpot items plus quite a few delicacies to try. There's also an extensive drink menu as well! FOOD: Now hotpot is all about soup and the ingredients. I enjoyed the tomato soup a lot but bone broth lacked flavor. The quality of the meats were not good at all, some of the meat cuts were actually too thick. We don't mind paying a little more for better quality meats but it just wasn't there. The only item I enjoyed was the shrimp paste. SERVICE: Standard and nothing to write home about. They were courteous and checked on us once to ask if we needed more soup in our pot towards the end of our meal. Overall, we spent over $100 for two people on subpar quality of meats. We left with our bellies somewhat full but not satisfied. We've definitely been too spoiled by good hotpot in the greater Boston area.

We ordered the 2 broths combo which was not savory enough flavor profile wise. This location is pay per order of meat, veggie, noodle and not AYCE fyi. Bill came out to $78 for two people. The hot pot includes a sauce station. Service was very quick. Ambiance is very clean. Ample parking.

5/5 Ambiance 3/5 i have been here twice and both times the service was very good and the quality of the ingredients/broth is very good. This place has a bar and make your own sauce bar. I have gotten the spicy broth and the vegetarian broth and both have very good flavor.

I have been searching for a hot pot place ever since my favorite ones in Cranston went away a few years ago now. The only option being a drive to Boston, I have opted to pine for one all this time until someone suggested LaMei. To think I didn't even know this place has been in existence for a couple of years now. All that hot pot I could've enjoyed... Anyway, I wasted no time and went on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of this very hot summer. No biggie; LaMei's AC works. Unfortunately, for a huge hot pot fan like me, LaMei satisfied the craving but I cannot say it was one of the best. First off, the vegetable, meat, and seafood selections are limited compared to what a traditional Chinese hot pot has. Second, I found the price on the high side. For instance, a cup of steamed rice at $2.50, bokchoy for $5.00, eel fish ball for $9.95, and short rib for $15.95, without tax. The biggest whammy was the charge we incurred for enjoying the dipping sauce. This place charges nearly $2 per person for a dipping sauce; something that is not usual and information not shared with us beforehand. Since we ordered 9 different items to dip on a half & half broth of nearly $20.00, you can imagine why all told, we ended up with over $105 including $8 tax, for a check. Whoa. No tip yet. Sigh. So, it was great that I found a hot pot place in RI. That took care of the craving hole. However, in its place was a bigger hole in my pocket, that I have started to reconsider that drive to Boston.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is absolutely delicious and authentic.
We always ended up going to LaMei when my friends and I were running out of ideas for a dinner place. The service here is also amazing. If you went here long enough, the waitress will remember you. After my friend's graduation ceremony, we went here and eat once again. She's leaving Rhode Island, so this might be the last time for her to go to this restaurant full of memory. When the waitress know that, she gave us desserts and drinks for free.

10/10 everything's perfect staff are attentive food is very fresh and flavorful. The spicy broth is very spicy, still enjoyable though

Hot pot is truly one of my favorite foods and this place in Providence didn't disappoint. Flavor was authentic and they had so many ingredients to pick from. I'd recommend everyone get the sauce bar addition as it really enhances the flavor. Chinese style hot pot might be intimidating but it's truly an experience. Just start off with some meat and veggies and go from there! If you order a lot like we did it might be a little expensive.
Be the first to ReplyA little pricer than what I've seen around here.
Our group is newer to Hot Pot and I was hoping to get some explanations of the menu / process, but we were just handed the menu. They charge extra for the sauce bar which I didn't expect coming in, but the sauce selection was good. Wasn't really a fan of the broth, but the beef and pork were of great quality. Its a lot more hectic in the evenings, but lunch time seemed like a ghost town which was pretty relaxing. Not a terrible experience but I think there's better around for the price range.
Be the first to ReplyThis was my first time being at a place like this.
It went really well, I will say that it does add up in price. Because you order every single thing separately. But the broth was really good and they had a pretty good variety. It's really for the experience, which I thought was great.
Be the first to ReplySuper authentic.
Had the mushroom stew and several disgusting Chinese ingredients. The waiters are actual Chineses who speak Chinese. Also had the dumplings which were okay but not great. On the pricey side at $45 per.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing.
First time and it was pretty easy to navigate. Friendly helpful staff helped. Cannot recommend enough.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here, loved the service and the food was GREAT.
Did a hot pot packed with protein. Loved the scenery and again Tai the server was so helpful and made our experience awesome.

Stumbled into this location while in Providence and it turned out pretty good! Decent amount of parking and a very wide range of items on the menu. Food came out quick and the quality of the ingredients made it very tasty! It was a bit pricier than the average hot pot places I've been to but still would recommend if you're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyYou know what's HOT in Providence? Two words! HOT POT
You know what's HOT in Providence? Two words! HOT POT (chanting)! Say it with me now ! Especially with this cold frigid New England weather, what better way to warm the belly! My family and I love hot pot and tonight was the night to try a new spot! So, tip one. Make a reservation! I didn't (rookie mistake) and we showed up at 5pm and the hostess was nice enough to seat us at a table since we were a party of three. And if you didn't have a reservation, they have individual seating at the bar for hot pot! So remember that if you have a brain fart like I did! I blame it on the cold air for my error! We ordered the 50/50 broth. One side was bone broth and the other side was the Mala Chinese butter broth (for the spicy fan)! Both broths were flavorful! So that's a winner! What I ordered which made the hot pot experience that extra yummy!Vegetables ordered: bok choy, corn, lettuce, enoki mushrooms and spinach. 10/10Protein ordered: beef rib eye! 10/10Seafood ordered: shrimp, white fish, mussels and crab sticks. 10/10 The shrimp was my favorite! However, the white fish fell short. Not my favorite.Noodles: Highly recommend the Shanghai noodles! Great texture to it as it is made fresh! As far as dipping sauces goes, you have to pay for it and there's a dipping sauce bar where you can customize your own creations! How fun is that?!?Customer service was very accommodating with no reservation. So that's a plus!Parking is available outside. So no fuss or muss there.
Be the first to Replyvisiting LaMei on a really chilly day was a perfect time.
it got filled up shortly after we arrived.food (4/5): since the menu is primarily a la carte instead of AYCE, we were mindful of what to choose for our meal. we chose the half and half Chinese mala butter/mala spicy. the spicy broth was SPICY, from someone who can handle spice. do not drink the top of the broth because you will be tasting straight-up chili oil. my go-to's: udon noodles, fried tofu, quail egg, king oyster mushroom, and enoki mushroom.also ordered the beef and lamb as well as the veggie platters. good assortmentadditionally, we ordered the eel balls which were stuffed to our surprise and i didn't necessarily enjoy, fair warningthey also have a DIY sauce bar for an additional $2, which of course is necessary. i followed another Yelper's recipe combo and thought it complemented well with the food!ambiance (4/5): the bar has individual pots. love that. would love to come back for a date or lunch by myself for that. the restaurant kind of feels like you're eating in someone's home. i liked it. there was a lot of space in between tables and booths as well. service (4/5): friendly, attentive, and quick! multiple staff members on the floor. overall, i'd love to go back but keep in mind that it is definitely a splurge.

Great quality food, very fun experience, service staff were super helpful! We did the dipping sauce station, we weren't sure how great our choices would be. Our server offered to make the sauces for us and they were great! The broth and the butter mala were super flavorful. Can not wait for my next visit!!

We are always looking for a good hotpot place and was in town to visit the museum. We came her around 2pm on a Tuesday and the restaurant was pretty empty. We ordered the 50/50 broth and some usual hotpot dishes. I wanted to say that after eating at almost every hotpot restaurant, it would be a trip to the bathroom. Not this time. The broth was very fresh and didn't have a rich hotpot powder taste. Meat was fresh as well. The only down side is the waiter served our sticky rice cake to the wrong table and we had to ask for the dish at the end. If you are looking for a "can't go wrong" hotpot sauce, try mine: lots of minced garlic (3 tbsp) and lots sesame oil, pinch of salt and bit of sugar, topped with cilantro and green onions if desired. It goes with pretty much every kind of hotpot dish.Free parking and quick service. If we are ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplySolid hot pot place, though it's far pricier than others
Solid hot pot place, though it's far pricier than others I've been to. My favorite place in Boston charges $3.50 per broth, and basic meat bouillon is free. Here, for a dual pot of 2 broths, it was $16.This restaurant also has a smaller selection than I've seen at other places. It's still enough, but I was looking forward to some salmon tonight.I ordered a cocktail and it was just okay.I'd say 3.5/5.
