La Nonna Ristorante Vail Reviews from The Last Year

Delicious food! Italian, cool ambience, cozy and romantic , love the menu! Lovely location and service
We got lucky and got a reservation last minute.
The food was pretty good aside from the lobster truffle pasta and the drinks were decent. I loved the vibe at the restaurant. Definitely coming back!
Despite the fact it's still hard to get a table, it's weird
Despite the fact it's still hard to get a table, it's weird to say the quality really went down in 23/24. Four meals here have all been bad this season. Gluey, overcooked, cold pastas. Bad attitude at the hostess stand upon arrival. Lackluster table service. It's vail and I'm ok spending a small fortune on a decent dinner, but they were 0-4 this winter/spring season. Hopefully next year they manage to retain some better staff and improve the food quality and I'll be able to edit this review.

We had such a great time eating here last night! We were staying at beaver creek but my girlfriend loves Italian food and has been wanting to come here for a really long time so we drove the short 20 mins to Vail. The village has a free parking garage (after 4pm) and it's only a 3 min walk to the restaurant. As soon as you walk into La Nonna there's a coat check. From there you walk upstairs and you're greeted by what seems like your family. Everyone is so friendly and ready to make your experience amazing. Our servers name was Alena and let me tell you something... she was THE nicest, MOST helpful, MOST cheerful person you've ever met! She really did do everything she could to make sure our dinner was the best it could be. Now for dinner. To start.. for someone who's not super familiar with Italian, this menu was stressful.. You basically need a translator just to figure out what's what.. Though I can see how it would be fun and part of the experience for most people. We started off with some bread and oil (FOCACCIA del GIORNO). For my meal I ordered the TAGLIATELLE VERDI al CINGHIALE. It was really good but personally not one of my favorite dishes. I think I would have really enjoyed the GNOCCHI alla BOLOGNESE, It looked amazing! My girlfriend got the RAVIOLI TRE FUNGHI which was soooo good. For dessert we got the the chocolate mousse and the tiramisu. Both were absolutely amazing. One very important tip if you're wanting to try this restaurant.. Make reservations way ahead of time. We called a month before and they only had two times available for that day. I'm not sure if it's always like that but I can definitely see this place staying booked. The service was great, food was great, atmosphere was great, and we really enjoyed our time eating here:)
simply the best!
this spot was a cut above every other italian restaurant in Vail Valley, in every way. From the service to the food, it was excellent! After introducing herself, our server asked if we had any dietary allergies. It was so nice to be asked, instead of having to remember to mention it. and...the calamari was, hands down, the best ive ever had.

it is 100% worth making a reservation a month in advance to the day! great food, would eat here multiple times during a four day trip if possible!
The ambiance had a cozy feeling.
More of a date night than a family night vibe. Love the fresh made daily pasta. I loved all the pastas I've tried. Large wine selection. Service was great but you can tell it was a busy night. The restaurant was packed for a weekday. I would make your reservations early! I also loved that they had a coat check since it was nice and warm inside.
La Nonna = La Don't
Wow! What a colossal disappointment. Olive Garden would have been so much better. It was our 33rd anniversary. The lady that took our reservations was super nice. We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation and had a nice Manhattan and glass of chardonnay in the bar. Then we were seated at a nice table in the upper room. So far, so good. Our waitress was a bit gruff, especially when she dumped our $18 pichet of wine into our glasses, but OK. Kind of like Berta on Two and a Half Men. Our calamari was good and well-seasoned. So far, so good. But then the train went off the track. My wife had the gnocchetti with sun dried tomatoes and I had the gnocchi with Bolognese sauce. Bolognese is never really deep in flavor but this was just on this side of OK. The gnocci was OK because it wasn’t too dense. The dish was a 3 out of five. However, the gnocchetti was a different matter. It was just a big bowl of glommy, sticky pasta in a salty goo of pesto-ish sauce. As stated above, Olive Garden would never serve such a heaping bowl. Home-made? When and in whose home? When we declined dessert, Berta (the waitress) seemed to take it personally. Then, then worst moment arrived. Along with our bill, Berta put down a votive candle cup (think Dollar Store), filled with little glass beads, a birthday candle, and a Party City Happy Anniversary thing onto our table. Geez! If that is what you are going to do, just don’t do anything. Cheesy doesn’t even begin to describe this. Even the people at the next table were laughing. When we have celebrated our anniversary in Vail the last six years at other restaurants, they not only served up some good food, but also some recognition that they appreciated us spending our special night (and some bucks) at their establishment. As we were leaving, the manager (?) asked if everything was fine, my wife (as she is wanted to do) let her know what a joke the meal and the anniversary thing was. Of course, no apology was forthcoming. The bottom line – there are much better restaurants in Vail, especially for the price that you will pay. If you are out for a special occasion, you can do much better that La Nonna.
My son had a nosebleed so we asked for our food to be
My son had a nosebleed so we asked for our food to be packed up so that we could leave. The server told us everything was in the bag but when we got back to our hotel, we had one entree completely missing and half the dessert was missing as well. Super ridiculous for a seven hundred dollar bill. No one picks up the phone either.
Sat at the bar, enjoyed delicious cocktails.
Calamari was fantastic, followed by the flavorful braised wild boar ragu and surprisingly amazing linguine with seafood. The pasta was a delightful surprise. Ended on a high note with a light and decadent crème brûlée. Ambiance was lovely too. Highly recommended
Definitely a go to in Vail.
Great food, and great service menu and wine list. All fantastic. Plus the most glamorous owner.
Very nice restaurant but overpriced and did not live up to
Very nice restaurant but overpriced and did not live up to expectations. Pasta was not what everyone said it would be. Guess they never had Italian food in NYC or NJ.
Homemade pasta.
The pasta is perfect. Excellent homemade soups. The specials are cooked perfectly. Whether it be halibut or veal scallopini gelato is homemade and super high delicious creamy flavor.
VERY DISAPPOINTED
We ordered Focacia, they don’t serve bread, they were out of focaccia!!! What!!! No offer to replace the focacia Servers were efficient but so fake. Not genuine. Wine expensive and only a 5 oz pour. Most places pour 6 oz Our entrees seemed skimpy. Seems they were trying to stretch the food in the dishes. 3 potatoes on our order of veal. Alex
Must go!
Wonderful restaurant! The staff is so nice and welcoming and the atmosphere is perfect. Food was phenomenal as well, so glad we found this place for dinner!
Best Italian meal ever
What a memorable night. This was the best restaurant we have eaten at in Vail. Mira, the owner and General Manager was as lovely as the food. She greeted the guests at all the tables and made everyone feel welcome. The service was impeccable. The food was outstanding. We cannot wait to eat there again.
Great restaurant
Great restaurant. We didn't have reservations but got a wonderful table on the patio. All the dishes and cocktails we ordered were excellent, but mushroom ravioli was excellent. The peach tart with homemade vanilla ice cream was the icing on the top.
Best meal we had in Vail.
Outstanding meal. When we called to make a reservation, they responded that they didn't have any spots but one, and that normally folks 'book a month out.' At first blush, that sounded arrogant, but once we had dinner there, we understood why. The waitress had lived in the area for some time, had excellent recommendations from the wine list down to every entree and salad. Especially delicious were the Wild Boar Tagliatelle and the Salad with beets and artichoke hearts. Patio seating was gorgeous. Expensive, but worth the experience and the quality of the food was over the top; fresh. We will be back.
Went two nights in a row!
Not your typical tourist restaurant. Outstanding food and service. Could be in NYC or LA. Front desk was awesome also
Always Good!
Excellent (and fun) service! We were seated in the area with the kitchen and it was very warm - we have been here during the fall and it was great. It just had a hard time cooling down after it got dark so dress accordingly!

Good Afternoon. It looks like you have requested a name transfer for Carbone NY. Unfortunately, this is one of the restaurants that is almost impossible to do name changes for. They don’t accept phone calls so they are difficult to change the reservations that were booked online.
