I have been there a few times prior to the Reno
I have been there a few times prior to the Reno Philharmonic Concerts across the street. It is one of several restaurants that Maria and I frequent on date nights. Last night April 20, 2024 the gods were smiling at us. I can honestly say this was by far the best service and dinners we have experienced ar La Familgia. Maria ordered the Pollo Saltimbocca and I opted for the Cioppino. The cioppino was loaded with mussels scallops, fish, shrimp, clams and topped off with a small lobster tail. The shrimp and fish were a little overcooked. The restaurant offered to replace my meal but I did not have enough time to wait for another meal and I did not want to throw a wrench on date night. We also shared a nice bottle of Barolo with our meal.We shared a spumonti dessert and each had after dinner coffee drinks. It was an exceptional night that begin with a great meal followed by a great concert. Parking is not a problem with a city parking lot across the street. I always call for reservations ( you should too). Exceptional wine list. $$-$$$$.

.. I went to La Famiglia solo before an event at the Pioneer Center, so I ate at the bar. I received excellent service from both bartenders...they were very mindful of watching the time so that I did not have to hurry through my dinner or risk being late for my show. I ordered the veal piccatta...one of my favorites. It was very good, with a nice selection of fresh vegetables. It was my birthday and they offered me a complimentary glass of Limoncello. I look forward to coming back here more often.

I love this restaurant, for a date night or a birthday or family dinner they're absolutely hands-down amazing. First of all the ambience is amazing. The waitress and busters are hands-down. Super kind they remember your meal they're very personable and the food is the best don't forget dessert crème brûlée

For our anniversary dinner I had the cioppino. It's the best I've ever had, better than what I've had in San Francisco and Naples. The broth is decadently rich and flavorful. The seafood, (and there was a lot! Including lobster tail) was fresh and delicious. The wine list is the best in town, great selections and very well priced. The service was very friendly without being too much, perfectly paced. The ambiance of the restaurant is at once homey and classically elegant La Famiglia may be my favorite Reno restaurant. Sorry I didn't take pictures. I was enjoying the food and the evening too much

While this restaurant could use some updating, the food was really good! My favorite dish was the fried mozzarella, which was served almost like a saganaki in terms of portion. I ordered the eggplant parm which the menu says comes with "noodles". The noodles are in fact capellini and if you are like me and do not like thin spaghetti, I suggest that you specify which noodles you would like with your dish. Ambience-wise this restaurant is very Sparks circa 2003. I refresh would go a long way :)

So incredibly impressed with this spot! We came to eat before a show. I wasn't aware that dinner service takes 1.5-2 hours and they didn't have any tables available at our reservation time. The hostess checked and snagged us a table in the bar so we could eat and get to the show on time. They also comped us dessert for being flexible - wow! Amazing service and tasty food. The lasagna was so ooey gooey! And crème brûlée was a total hit. We will be back (and allow more time next time )!!

We had made reservations for dinner on a Thursday night after many of our friends highly recommended this local spot. We were greeted with a smile and seated immediately. Our waters were filled but it took awhile for a server to come to our table following this. We couldn't quite figure out who our server was at first because two people approached our table and read the specials and tried to take our drink orders. One of the servers came back and explained that the server that was assigned to us was having a hard time getting a break from serving a large party. She apologized profusely and told us they would comp dessert. It was nice to know why we didn't have one particular server but then we proceeded to wait...a very long time. Overall much of our time was spent waiting for everything. The free dessert was a nice gesture but we would've just preferred better service after the apology. When our meals came out, they were divine. Both entrees we ordered were delicious and were served in very large portions! They did follow through on the free dessert which was nice but honestly unnecessary because our entrees were quite filling. I would recommend the Pollo Saltimboca served with brown butter. So good! We will have to return for another experience.

and ambiance were all great. Perfect for pre/post show dinner at the Pioneer Center. If you're going before the show, make reservations!
Be the first to ReplyI was greeted as soon as I walked in seated promptly.
Atmosphere was friendly and made me think of a classic high end Italian place I'd take good company. Water bread and all the things brought promptly. Both of the guys behind the bar were friendly and made good conversation while busy.I've worked for two chefs from Milan during my culinary career and the food was great. Prawn appetizer was delicious and I sopped up the jus with the crusty bread. For entree I got veal ravioli and marinara. I'd go back for sure. The couple at the bar next to me got the risotto and he got pasta bolognese both looked delicious too as well as big portions on both. I had a great first experience.

While the specials sounded awesome, I was wanting lasagna for a couple weeks. Ordered a Whistlepig whisky, not having tried that one before. Tasty! Very fresh bread went well with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table.Fresh grated Parmesan was offered after they placed the oven baked lasagna with bolognese sauce on my table. The sauce is delicately spiced, the lasagna is amazing!Cappuccino and spumoni for dessert! Like the mini biscotti!

Service went above and beyond while the lighting was dim and the room wasn't loud.

La Famiglia is one of the finest Italian restaurants one can choose to visit in the Reno-Tahoe area. I cannot recommend it enough as all of the dishes are absolutely delicious and made with care in technique and presentation. I usually do not order Specials at restaurants due to an article I read once upon a time, however, I decided to try the Cioppino dish the waitress mentioned on her specials and oh my goodness, the photo below speaks for itself. It was 110% better than any Cioppino dish, and the lobster tail added a whole new dimension as well. The Italian pinot was lovely of course, the service was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere has a striking balance between fancy and dressy-casual but approachable. The ambiance in the lighting makes it feel more elegant while the decor and color palette chosen makes it feel like a bit more Italian like you're at a romantic restaurant on the bridges in Venice or Florence.

Best Italian food I have ever had! The atmosphere was relaxing with dimmed lights. The bread is cooked in house and tastes so good. Got the sangria and loved the fruit they add. Also it was not to sweet. Waitress was helpful and made the experience that much nicer. Portions where good and everything tasted so fresh and flavorful.

Was able to get a last minute reservation at this gem on a Thursday night. We had a wonderful waitress who gave great recommendations. For appetizer we had the bruschetta and WOW! I loved the perfect combination taste of garlic, ripe tomatoes and gooey cheese. I had the shrimp scampi and the hubs had the house ravioli. Shrimp dishes are not typically my favorite item to get but this dish is something I would order again!
Be the first to ReplyI totally enjoyed having dinner at La Famiglia yesterday.
The reception was warm and the ambience was amazing. This setting can be perfect for date night (*wink wink Valentine*) or for a night out with friends. For appetizers, we ordered the crispy calamari and linguine mare (the latter is not on the menu as an appetizer but you can order it without the pasta to make it an appetizer). For mains we ordered the blackened salmon and cioppino with pasta (doesn't normally come with pasta but you can request it).I really enjoyed the food and service and will definitely be back for more :)
Be the first to ReplyExcellent fish! Really good tomato soup.
Lot's of good specials, so pay attention when the waiter tells you what they are, and don't hesitate to ask him to repeat them. Good wine selection with reasonable prices. All the ingredients for the perfect night out.

Big portions and quality food. It's a nice vibe and setting and a great spot for a date night or a meal with a buddy.

We've been wanting to try La Famiglia for a while, and we came in on a Monday night for dinner! We found parking around the corner and were seated right away when we came in. Our waitress was incredibly kind and attentive, and helped us decide between a few menu items! We both got glasses of wine and enjoyed the calamari appetizer. The calamari was much crispier than usual, but I always prefer calamari closer to over done rather than underdone. I ordered the seafood pasta and my partner got the lobster ravioli. The seafood pasta was PACKED with tons of delicious seafood, and the sauce was incredible!! I was lucky that my partner let me have a bite of the ravioli, absolutely delicious and the sauce is incredible as well. I had a little bit of entree envy but was still very happy with my meal. We finished the night with a piece of tiramisu which was fluffy and perfectly sweet, and I can't wait to come back! Thanks for a wonderful mea!

La Famiglia was host to my friends' rehearsal dinner the night before their wedding date. We were given a private dining space with two long tables and sealed off from the rest of the dining area, allowing for an intimate reception.First off, I loved being inside the private area. It really set the mood for a nice dinner especially with our own dedicated server and set menu. Although wait staff would come in and out to grab wine, being next to their wine cellar elevated the experience.During the dinner, myself and the bride's mother were the only vegans, so I was worried that there wouldn't be a substantial option for me. Fortunately, the couple of the hour did everything they could to ensure there was an appropriate option for me at least for the main dish. So if you're plant-based or are going with people that are, be sure to call in advance to make sure there is an option available. My starter was their Della Casa salad without the gorgonzola. Nothing too special and I'm glad there was at least a vegan friendly salad. My main ended up being a marinara pasta with sautéed veggies on top. Again, nothing too mind blowing but I was glad there was something I could have with everyone to celebrate the moment.I wish they had a vegan friendly dessert though. Not gonna lie, seeing everyone indulge in their tiramisu or cheesecake was rough especially when I'm sure they had already paid for me to have a sweet treat. Some seasonal fruits or some kind of non-dairy sorbet would have been nice to end this Italian meal.Overall, a lovely dinner night. I'm grateful to my friends for the invitation to join them on this special evening.
Be the first to ReplyOur first time there yesterday.
Both of us really liked the food. I'm not a fan of salads, yet they had the best Caesar salad I've ever had. Lobster Ravioli was fabulous. The service was the best I have had in years. They are very attentive to making sure you have what you need without having to call them to the table. The owner came by our table TWICE during our meal to make sure everything was ok and to answer questions. What other restaurant does that any more? Better call for a reservation in advance. They are busy which is another indication of how good things are there. We will definitely be going back many times.

..my Brother and Sis took us out to a special treat. LA Famiglia is an Italian jewel! Absolutely everything was perfection! From the Service to the meal and topped off with yummy dessert tiramisu our evening was wonderful! I ordered the Filet Mignon...absolute velvet smooth to chew and cooked to perfection! Bro had the Scallops over a rich Risotto that he melted into. He also thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese Whiskey and raved about it! Sis had the Seafood Cioppino...yumm!! Hubby had the standard Lasagna which was enjoyed! The owner even came over to see how everything was. Our server, Tuoey (sp?) could not have been more gracious! What a great way to enjoy a brief homecoming/visit. Will return if in Reno again! Don't miss out on this wonderful Italian restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyI love this restaurant.
It's always wonderful to have great service and people that clearly love going to work. When I moved to Reno, I missed Italian food that tasted home cooked. La familiar was definitely the spot I was looking for!We enjoyed the cocktails. The sangria is legit. Not too sweet, with a good amount of spice and that marinating fruit flavor. As for the food, I haven't had the opportunity to sample the entire menu yet. I usually start with spaghetti and meatballs for my first time at an Italian restaurant and I loved it here! There was a generous portion of meatballs. Fresh herbs and roasted garlic were deliciously playing on each other in the red sauce. Next for me will be chicken parm which is always what I get the second time at an Italian restaurant.
