La Colombe d'Or Hotel and Restaurant Saint-Paul-de-Vence Reviews from The Last Year
Magical Setting and Atmosphere
Friends go every year and they rave about it so we had to try it, if only for the art! We had a fabulous evening. Staff were friendly and the service was excellent. Loved the art we were able to see in the bar and around the swimming pool. Wonderful atmosphere. Our starters of Crevettes was delicious, my partner had the Poussin which he enjoyed, I had the cod which was poached in milk, accompanied by boiled potatoes, carrots and courgettes. It seemed more like something you'd serve to an invalid but hey ho I was very hungry and ate it all and my partner generously shared his dauphinois which improved it no end! We probably ate better and less expensively elsewhere in the walled city but for an experience this place is unequalled.
This is such a unique place.
Don't overthink the food--haute cuisine it is not--but they do the classics extremely well, and I love the old school serveurs boning fish and flambeeing tableside. As with most restos in France, ask them in French what to order and let them tell you. Don't forget to take a stroll through the dining room; the collection would rival a lot of museums. If you can't get a reservation, call or walk in at 10 AM the day you want to go. They hold tables for guests at the hotel and release them at that time each day.
Art Lovers Restaurant
Wonderful atmosphere … dine surrounded by fabulous art. Food is mediocre at best. Service is excellent. Go for the experience, not the food.
A Room With A View
Venue for a marvelous 80th birthday party. Stayed three nights. Birthday lunch for fourteen served flawlessly on the Terrace. This is a very special experience but perhaps not for everyone. It is quintessential Provence and an experience that transcends generations. However, that might be a catch for some. If you like modern conveniences like USB charging ports, multiple power sockets etc, then this might not be your hotel. My only criticism was that the bar staff were a little hard to find at 4 pm. And, it is always 4 pm somewhere in the world.....
Sublime
I’ve been coming to the Colombe d’Or for decades and it remains one of our favourite restaurants. This time we decided to stay for a birthday and have every meal here (lunch on arrival, dinner, breakfast and lunch the next day). Great decision! The service, setting, food and attention to detail are second to none and considering the status of this iconic establishment the prices are quite reasonable. We had a fabulous duplex suite with a huge terrace that looked over the village on one side and the pool on the other. If I was to be picky I would suggest that the rooms could be a little more plush. Some water by the bed is really essential in this day & age especially as there is no mini bar. Tea & coffee making facilities would also be a welcome addition. Ps dogs are welcome!

Yes the rich history makes the place attractive but as a vegetarian the options were crap. They offered to make pasta, but all they had on menu was boiled veggies. They weren't good. Service was impeccable, house wine was bleh, but veggies were so boring and came me garlic mayo. Would have preferred to only come for drinks as the real attraction were the original masterpieces on the wall.
This is a special place that sort of defies categorization.
It is an old school French restaurant. They bone your white fish tableside, do tableside flambee, etc. The menu has probably not changed in a long time, but the food is really good. It's not going to win awards for creativity, but there are plenty of other places in France for that. And the art collection is better than a lot of museums can offer. It's extremely difficult to get a table, though, unless you're local and know people, or it's offseason.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
