Kusakabe tops my list for omakase fusion.
The ambiance and service are excellent, and the freshness and creativity of the food exceed expectations. Each dish is thoughtfully introduced, and every bite surpasses what you might anticipate. I thoroughly enjoy visiting with a friend who shares a love for Japanese fusion omakase!
Be the first to ReplyKusakabe is an exquisite dining experience in San Francisco.
The meticulous attention to detail in every dish truly shines, creating a culinary journey that delights the senses. The sushi is fresh and expertly prepared, and the omakase menu is a must-try for anyone looking to indulge in Japanese cuisine. The ambiance is sophisticated yet inviting, making it perfect for special occasions or intimate gatherings. The service was great as well and servers came to check on us promptly. I came here a few years ago and it was great to be back, still as good as I remember. My favorites of the night were the hotate with uni, anago pressed sushi eaten like a hand roll, a5 wagyu sukiyaki and chutoro. My least favorite of the night had to be their toro surprisingly as parts of the fish were stringy and hard to chew. Their tasting menu currently is $198 with add-ons for additional pricing. Overall, Kusakabe delivers an unforgettable dining experience!
Be the first to ReplyWow, just wow! A great higher end sushi experience.
Glad I was able to have it. You know how you intend to take pictures of each dish but when you see it you forget and it's already in your mouth? So good.

10/10 18 course omakase experience! from ambiance, to staff, to food! i would definitely come back here with a date or dinner with friends who like great quality food. i shared two different 8 oz sakes (kaze no mori & akabu) with another person & it was really good & just enough.

My birthday dinner at Kusakabe was truly unforgettable! From fulfilling a special request to sit in front of the chefs (a bucket list item of mine!) to the impeccable service and attention to detail, every moment felt like a dream. The chefs skillfully crafted each dish with the freshest ingredients, resulting in flavors that simply melted in my mouth. The special Valentine's menu added an extra touch of romance and made the evening even more memorable. I can't thank the staff enough for catering to my needs and creating such a wonderful experience. It was truly a birthday celebration to remember!

Order: * Kaiseki Style Omakase * Sweet Sake Flight Pros: * Ambiance is warm, quaint and welcoming. * Service was very friendly from top to bottom. Our sushi chef was all smiles the entire time, very friendly and explained what everything was. * All of the sushi was excellent, fresh and varied from simpler to unique, but all very tasty. * I was skeptical about the sweet sake flight, but it ended up being quite varied, tasty and fun if this appeals to you. They certainly are going to be sweet, but at the same time you'll know you're drinking a unique take on sake. This flight is not for purists by any means. * I left feeling very happy and satisfied equally by the food and the experience as a whole. Cons: * A lot of the nigiri rice was painted in a sauce from the bottom, which at times would fall apart when I picked them up. I think the nigiri would have been just as enjoyable with less sauce in the rice, allowing the pieces to hold together better. * I wish the sushi bar counter was a bit deeper. I'm 5' 8" and my toes and knees would sometimes hit the back of the counter. * Our sushi chef was great, but his accent was so thick, I couldn't understand half of what he was describing, which was kind of a bummer for a diner like me who enjoys hearing the description. Comments: * This is an easy five stars for me. The only reason I could possibly think you might not enjoy it as much as I did is if you're going out for omakase every week, and this just isn't a special meal for you. Barring that, I give them credit for providing a great combination of ambiance, service, and food.

Came here to celebrate Valentine's Day early and left full and filled wanting to come back again. We got the omakase and each dish did not leave us disappointed. My favorite is definitely the uni! Everything was fresh and amazing. We had amazing service as well and although the space was small, it was definitely intimate. I would definitely come back again for a special occasion and probably the best omakase I've had in a while.

Very high quality omakase - the fish was really fresh!! Loved everything here - fabulous service, the server was super knowledgeable and patient, and the ambiance was fun. It's a bit pricey for what you end up with but still really good!

The most amazing omakase experience! Everything was so fresh and tasted amazing! I can't say enough great things except I didn't want it to end! We did not get the sake pairing, but just got two different sakes to try and the waitress did a great job at suggesting something we liked. The chef was very attentive and explained each course. There are seats at the bar, which is where you probably want to be and a couple tables to sit at as well. I would highly recommend coming here to celebrate an occasion or just for a nicer dinner. Absolutely amazing!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing omakase experience thru and thru.
You won't leave hungry at all. By the time the second nigiri course comes, the chefs ask if you would like less rice or the same amount (in case you're getting full) -- something I found very thoughtful since they want you to be able to try everything.

Came here for a birthday dinner and it was so much fun! I'll get to the food in a bit, but our chef was so friendly and interactive that it made our dinner an experience. He was so attentive, asked us questions like what our favorite sushi was, and really made us feel special. The atmosphere was moody and yet lively at the same time. I love seeing how my food is prepped and cooked. It really makes you appreciate and savor the bite even more. The food. Each bite was so delectable. Our chef was so eager to see what our reaction was after each new bite and he gleamed with so much pride in seeing our satisfaction. I have too many favorites to name. We loved it so much that we even ordered their to-go ikura/uni sushi set to take home. My birthday experience also came with a combo dessert with a candle, a sweet birthday note, and hojicha tea leaves in an adorable container as a souvenir. I could tell you more about how delicious the food was, but you can tell by all the pictures on here. What you can't see is how amazing the staff/chefs were. They really made the entire experience. If you step into Kusakabe, you can be sure that you're going to have a very special night.
Be the first to ReplyCan guarantee you won't leave hungry.
. both times I had to get part of my omakase to go because I couldn't finish it which has only ever happened to me at this restaurant Great service, sommelier was very patient helping me find a wine I liked and sushi chef was very friendly although he did have a thick Japanese accent lolFood is incredible, def a lot of influence from Kyoto with some Kyoto style sushi and lots of Kaiseki style appetizers. Food wise I may even say it's the best omakase in San Francisco One star off for pacing, since we didn't get our first course until 8:30. Eating at 8 is already a bit late for us so we were very hungry

Came here for a celebratory dinner and my oh my was it a delightful experience!! Everything was so thoughtfully prepared and served, ingredients fresh and stunningly executed to be presented. I came here years ago, and recently came back again and I'm happy to see that the quality, freshness, and presentation has remained consistently exceptional!
Be the first to ReplyKUSAKABE is definitely one of the best omakase restaurants
KUSAKABE is definitely one of the best omakase restaurants in San Francisco. The fish is always so fresh, delicate, and flavorful. Each nigiri that comes out from the sushi bar is so delicious. The chefs and servers here were so kind and responsive! I asked so many questions about each dish that came out, but they never looked annoyed and answered each question. I had bar seats with Chef Leo and it was a fantastic experience - he was so fun! KUSAKABE is the perfect spot for a romantic date-night or celebration. Will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyKusakabe offers a fantastic omakase experience.
The restaurant is fairly small and only seats a limited number of people so it is a very intimate experience. Fortunately reservations are not that difficult to make but may require around a week in advance. There is only one menu available at $195 per person. Some highlights of the meal were the chutoro, kinmedai, flounder, and shima aji. However every course was very delicious. For two people it came to around $550 after tax and tip but neither of us drank alcohol but did get tea.The waiters were also very attentive and on point with any dietary restrictions. I would definitely recommend Kusakabe if you're looking for a great Japanese experience in the bay area that includes more than just traditional edomae style sushi.
Be the first to ReplyThe omakase was fantastic.
Some big courses but highlights for me were:- chawanmushi with smoked trout caviar- zuke chutoro- hokkaido scallop + hokkaido uni- a5 wagyu- ootoro- hokkaido uniMmm I left feeling so satisfied.
Be the first to Reply10/10 would recommend.
I went here for my birthday on valentines day but I had to go on the weekend. When my boyfriend and I got there, the service and host were extremely kind when greeting us. It was not hard making reservations, but it is a 2 hour meal and only has two seating options 5pm and 8pm. I went to 8pm reservation. I am a sushi and seafood fanatic and this was my first time trying omakse, but I must say it was the best experience. I thought it was a bit pricey as it was valentines day and they they had a special menu, 250 per person. But it was worth every penny. The waiter was extremely attentive when we were drinking out hot tea, and it never was cold, always fresh. The food was phenomenal, and you can really tell that there was a lot of love and time crafted into each dish. You could taste how fresh and how high quality each piece of nigiri was. I personally cannot tell you which was my favorite of the night since I loved all of it. I wasn't able to try to sake since I was driving that night and I wanted to be safe, but overall it was amazing. My new favorite sushi place.
Be the first to ReplyAround the corner from the Hilton in the Financial District.
Reservations where not terribly difficult to make a week out. Restaurant usually only has 2 seatings, 5p and 8p. We made a reservation on a Sunday night for the 8p service and it was fully booked. The reservation process was easy, they followed up via text to check on allergies and special occasion requests, which they honored. The sushi and the other items were incredible and worthy of a place that has earned a Michelin star. The dishes can change from time to time, I was glad to see Toro, Golden Eye Snapper, A5 Wagyu beef, Arctic Char, were all on the menu for the evening we were there. Service was superb and the chef we were seated with at the bar was friendly, and very accommodating to our tastes and requests.

hands down top omakase in SF!! the course begins with 3x3 small bites, which adds a unique aspect to the traditional omakase! the chefs and staffs are all very friendly--in fact, the chef offered to take a picture for us after the meal! sushi rice is warm and the fish on top of all sushi is top-notch fresh! definitely recommend and good for special occasions!
Be the first to ReplyFood is pretty good, but just whatever's for the price.
One major issue is the sake flight cost 70 dollars, the three sake they gave us totaled 69 dollars on the menu and were the larger 4oz glasses instead of the 2-3 oz. Glasses that came with the flight. Service is great. Asked us if there was any special occasion , there was , but nothing happened.

If you want to try omakase, I think this place is totally worth coming to! Reservations weren't hard to get and I would recommend getting a bar seat. Being able to watch the chef make the sushi and serve it to you is a great experience. Each dish was really tasty. They have so many appetizers and fish that I was so full afterwards and I'm not exaggerating. If you are worried about not being full afterwards, you don't have to worry here. The nigiri pieces were all really fresh with the uni and scallop being my favorite. The uni was so sweet and scallop was so fresh everything went so well together. We also got a sweet sake flight and each sake was really interesting to try.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the top Omakase restaurants in Bay area.
Both the freshness of the fishes and the design of several dishes are giving me surprise. I will definitely come back.
