One of the best Japanese restaurants anywhere
Kizuna is one of the best japanese restaurants I have visited. We live in London, though I am from the Isle of Man, and previously lived in Tokyo. My family love Japanese food and we have eaten at many the best Japanese restaurants in London, Tokyo and elsewhere. Kizuna serves a small but diverse menu of perfectly presented dishes. The fish and meat are super fresh and of the highest quality and the preparation and service are excellent. This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in the Isle of Man

Took some business colleagues on our first visit to Kizuna in Castletown. First and foremost the service was exceptional from start to finish. Relatively small restaurant, the atmosphere was very relaxing. Had a mixture of meat and vegetable starters and main courses, all excellent, the belly pork was the standout for me. The drinks are overpriced in my opinion, £32 a round for 4 pints of larger, drop the prices and customers will consume a lot more. I will without doubt visit again but I'll be on the soft drinks.

Outstanding Japanese restaurant to be found - amazingly - in Castletown! Sushi aficionados say they can’t find anything better than this in London. Food amazing and staff really welcoming and friendly. Been a few times now and every visit thoroughly enjoyed by friends and family.

World class Japanese cuisine in Castletown! Kazuna gets everything right - the room is understated and stylish, the service impeccable and the food - just wow! We’ve eaten at some of top Japanese restaurants around the world - including several Michelin starred places and this is right up there. Every single dish was a delight. Worth every penny.

We loved Kizuna! The food is outstanding: a varied menu of sushi, sashimi and lots of other dishes, with good choice for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free diets. The atmosphere is great too: low-key and relaxed while also feeling very elegant and special. The service was friendly and helpful. I wish we lived closer!

Kizuna is an absolute gem. It has all the elegance you expect from Japanese cuisine, refined flavours (we loved the miso aubergine, pork gyoza, and matcha crème brûlée in particular) and an intimate, hospitable welcome. Not to mention the cool experience, for six lucky customers, of sitting at the chef's table. I live in a busy English university city twice the size of IoM and haven't had Japanese like this. A holiday within a holiday: I wish I lived nearer.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere; highly recommend the sushi omakase and tonkatsu. Price was very reasonable given the quality of the food and service. Will definitely go again.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing, authentic Japanese food and atmosphere.
The best Japanese food I have ever tasted. Staying in Castletown for work and have heard that Kizuna was excellent. The decor is super minimalist and the open kitchen is fantastic. I took recommendations from the super friendly staff on what to order and all of the food was excellent. I tried the warm Sake too which was a first for me and I really enjoyed it. I had a great dinner at this restaurant and would highly recommend it.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful special meal for two. Exceptional food and service.
This is an exceptional eating experience with friendly and polite staff who will guide and assist you. The food is just wonderful and I would recommend anyone to try it. We had the set menu on the two occasions we have been. We both hope to return again in the future if we are on the island.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t bother: Very expensive for plain food.
It’s a nice enough restaurant for the IOM, but in any other place this would be on the bottom of the list. The food is very tasteless and very expensive: 2 8 piece Susie rolls: spicy tuna and tempura scampi. No spices or mayo, just super plain sushi in not the best rice. Little ginger and very little wasabi (not home made I believe). Edamame: steamed in butter, not crunch in them and no taste other than the salt. Shared a tempura lunch special. The miso soup was average. The tempura vegetables and shrimp was just in batter, no spices or panko, just very plain and over done. Some were soggy and some were crunchy. Rice was ok. Drink: 2 soft drinks and 2 alcoholic. Price: £120 (!). Spend your money elsewhere 🙏🏻

From the moment of arrival the staff were friendly and efficient, we were seated at the chefs table where we could watch the chef preparing his Japanese cuisine to the highest standards. The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
Be the first to ReplyGreat celebratory meal for two in Castletown.
We had a wonderful meal sitting at the chef’s table as a couple. The whole experience from front of house (and we were last minute extras) to interacting with the chef, was just excellent. We were so impressed that we tried to book for the last night of our holiday. We had the set meals with one of us having the Salmon Teriyaki and the other having the Chef’s choice Sushi. Just great. Try it if you can.
Be the first to ReplyMajor changes, Kizuna has lost its sparkle
Kizuna is passing through a difficult period, due to staff shortages. Consequence is NO lunch service anymore, just a limited menu for dinner at rather steep prices. Whilst quality is OK, VFM is NOT. Be warned - no menu on the website, bit like a blind date. Let's hope things get back to near-normal 2021 standards when I will review again and hopefully give more than 2 stars.
Be the first to ReplyNice but far too expensive
I love sushi. But the California rolls at £18 left me hungry and underwhelmed. Whilst the pork belly was sublime... If there was a Yo Sushi on the island, I'd choose that over Kizuna any day because of the extortionate price.

Pre booked ahead of time as place seems to be packed every time. Staff friendly. They wore traditional outfit that made you feel like you are in Japan. Place is very little but ample. Food good but a tad pricey tbh. Would go back again tho.

I’ve been to Kizuna a couple of times now with friends and it has been outstanding every time. The food is delicious, you must try the California rolls, the teriyaki and the tempura veggies. The service is fantastic. The only issue is trying to get a booking - they are so full which makes is difficult (not their fault) but the quite often don’t answer the phone.

An absolute delight to be at this restaurant. A warm welcome and delicious food served impeccably. A very good chef from Yokohama.

Where do I start? Yes, this place is very popular, and getting a table can be a bit of a lottery. We were lucky and got a cancelled reservation. And yes, about time that the island got a decent Japanese restaurant. We worked our way through the menu, everything we tried was soo yummy! The delicate fried soft tofu, The udon noodle bowl is a meal in itself and so very more-ish, and there is also something for the more traditional tastes, e.g. karaage ;O) My favourite was the green tea ice cream, that is until I tried the matcha creme brulée. I recommend getting a seat at the bar facing the chef and his team: you can watch and learn the preparation of sushi, etc.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Japanese food worthy of London
Fantastic Japanese restaurant, and by fantastic it could thrive anywhere, not just Isle of Man. Authentic feel, great service. I’ve been about ten times, never disappointed. The sashimi is great as it is wonderful, quality fish, not available anywhere else locally. The tempura is fried perfectly, crispy, not at all greasy. Chicken or salmon teriyaki are also great, not overly sweet. A surprise dish is the pork and cherry tomato yakitori, the flavours work very well together. My favorite dish, though, is the aubergine starter (not the fried one), it is too good to describe. Several times I have taken friends and they’ve ordered it again for dessert. I have seen the other reviews and it is difficult to book, much easier for lunch. It’s also expensive for Isle of Man, same as you’d pay in London, but that is driven by the high quality ingredients and the large staff to customers ratio.

Intrigued to find a small Japanese restaurant in Castletown had opened since our last pre COVID holiday. We went for lunch on a wet day ( didn’t book), and sat at the bar watching the food preparation, which was excellent entertainment. The set lunch menu was good value, and delicious. Enjoyed it so much we booked for another lunch and a dinner. These were also really enjoyable. It’s a large menu in the evening, so it was time consuming deciding what to order. Out of all the dishes I tried and loved, my favourites were the teriyaki steak and the green tea ice cream. The service is charming, friendly and very efficient. Lucky Castletown!
