Came here for a family group dinner for dim sum, they had a sale on the king crab and my dad decided to order it. The crab was very well done. They had a few different courses for it and each of them tasted great! The dim sum was also fairly good. While i did enjoy it, i wouldnt rank kirin dim sum as the best vancouver has to offer, but it would be in my top 5.
Be the first to ReplyMy favorite place for Dimsum in British Columbia.
I love the foods here. Reservation is highly recommended. They have three locations: Richmond, Vancouver, and this one. I love this location because there is plenty of free parking. Easy to make a reservation (not as busy as the one in Richmond). Service is great. Everyone is polite and professional.

Dim sum is ok but service is not friendly, especially for a 'nice' chinese restaurant. While being seated we were told multiple times that our reserved table was only good for 90 minutes. I get it - they don't want people hanging around BUT it adds an element of needing to rush through dining before we're even seated. Waitstaff were no-nonsense and didn't provide any extra service (ie offering to cut dim sum pieces or offering scissors for us to do so). Scissors are customary especially when the number of dim sum pieces don't match the number of people at the table. When changing plates midway through dining, the server had a stack of clean plates for our table of four people. I was the last one to hand her my plate and she refused to change it and said it was 'ok' although clearly not clean. She turned briskly and walked away. She had the plate in her hand. Directly behind us was a staging table stacked with clean plates. I've never been rejected a clean plate at any chinese restaurant regardless of how clean/dirty it was. I noticed a bit later that the table next to us had all their plates changed by the same server even though they were clearly as 'ok' as mine. As soon as our dishes were cleared, a staff came over with bill and credit card reader (without being prompted). He was quite impatient as my 85 yr old mother in law opened her purse to retrieve the credit card. Overall, we didn't feel welcomed from beginning to end. Will not return.

I've been debating whether I would rate my dining experience this morning with one star or two stars. At the end, I'm giving two. My husband and I went there for dim sum with my parents this morning. While the foods are solid, the customer service left a rather disappointing experience at the end. The two incidents irked me and my husband throughout our brunch so much that we didn't even care to enjoy the foods thereafter. We just, ate them. (1) One of our dim sum courses was duck feet so naturally we had bones left on our plates. Our waitress came by to change our used plates with clean ones. My parents' and mine got changed. When it came to my husband's turn, he held up his used plate to be taken away. The waitress said, "oh yours is OK" (literally) and walked away. My and my husband's immediate reaction was "WTF?". Our only explanation to ourselves to the situation was that my husband did not partake in the duck feet so there was no bones on his dish. No explanation, however, was given by the waitress. There was leftover sauce on my husband's plate nonetheless. We have eaten at Chinese restaurants at all price ranges in Asia, North America and Europe. I have never seen used plates being changed selectively, particularly when it was held up to be changed, no less! When plates are changed at a table, all are changed regardless of how much it was used. It's a matter of courtesy and egality. And, it wasn't like there were not enough clean plates to go around. Next to us was a prep table with 2 tall stacks of clean plates to replace diners' used plates. (2) We ordered the Kirin fried noodle. After it was plated, my dad asked a waiter for Zhe (as in Zhejiang) vinegar for the noodle. The waiter asked to clarify whether my dad wanted red or black vinegar. My dad was stumped and repeated that he wanted Zhe vinegar. The waiter repeated the options of red or black vinegar. Zhe vinegar is synonymous as red vinegar. However, for those who are only familiar with one name, they may not be aware of the alternative name. That was the case with my dad and the waiter. That was when my mother stepped in to confirm the choice of red vinegar. The entire exchange was pleasant. When the same waiter, came back with the vinegar, he placed it right in front of me (not just in the general vicinity) and I sat opposite to my dad at a round table. In other words, he placed the vinegar at a spot furthest to my dad. I would hope the two actions were not intentionally "vindictive" of any nature. Although both the waiter and waitress were very accommodating at other times during our dining, their two actions above show they lack awareness of sensitivity to customers. There are hole-in-wall restaurants that pride themselves on very good food and there is no customer service to speak of. However, Kirin is not one of them. Although it is not a high end restaurant per se, it is a "finer" restaurant as reflected in its pricing. Quality of food, customer service and experience are all parts of the package. If one fails, the dining experience fails.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is tasteful and the place is clean.
The staff are very mindful with your needs. It's a good place for gathering with friends.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Christmas lunch with church.
We were the first to arrived and were promptly directed to the backroom / banquet room. It's a very nice room and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was very tasty and portions were big. Overall, a very satisfying and memorable experience.
Be the first to ReplyA little disappointed.
Everything was slow here. The food was ok but average. Next time we will remember to reserve the table in their Richmond branch.
Be the first to ReplyCame for the set dinner.
Food was good and the roasted pig was an interesting experience because I never had it served with steamed buns before. The skin was crispy but the meat was a bit tough. The other food we had was the wonton noodles, seafood fried rice, veggies with fish maw, salted chicken and fried cod. The dishes were pretty good but the wait time for the food was unbelievable! Our entire meal took 3 hours to complete which is way too long for a regular dinner service! With that said, the staff attended to us the best they could by filling up our tea and letting us know that there was only one chef working that night so that's why food took so long.

Dim sum menu is limited compared to others, but regular menu is available during the day. The food tastes good. However the chow mien we ordered was smaller than expected. The service was good and efficient. Our table was clear and bill presented right after we finished eating, which I don't expect from a supposedly "upscale" restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThis is my third time to this location for Dim Sum.
It is easier to make reservation. I recommend you to ask for their homemade XO chili sauce. . It makes the dim sum more flavorful and less greasy. Some new items we tried this time. Shrimp and corn red yeast rice roll 3.5stars Beef balls 3.5 stars
Be the first to ReplyOur go to restaurant whenever we have family dinners.
They have a delicious roast pig set dinner that is always a hit with everyone. You start off with a pot of morel mushroom soup, then roast pig, then egg plant and Lobster, crispy chicken, rock cod stir fry, e-fu noodles, fried rice, fish maw with pea sprouts, steamed Malay sponge cake, almond milk dessert... I don't know if I'm missing anything else but it was a LOT of delicious goodness and a lot of leftovers. I only made it to 2 pictures before I lost track in eating and forgot to take the rest lol! FYI, you have to order the roast pig set dinner in advance. They have a special rotisserie that only this Kirin location can make this roast pig, not any of the other locations.

I brought a couple of out of town friends here based on a friend's recommendation. If you're looking for the same old, same old dim sum dishes, you won't find it here. Our hopes were set high for the sesame seed deep fried balls and the deep fried 'footballs', and were majorly disappointed. The prices were reasonable based on the quality. The dim sum menu had 50 items which is small compared to many other dim sum places. Our favourites were Deep Fried Halibut in Premium Soy Sauce; Steamed Scallop & Pureed Truffle Rice Roll; Steamed Prawn, Pork, & Enoki Mushroom Bean Curd Roll; Pork & Chinese Mushroom Pastry topped w/Abalone; Egg Custard Tart & Deep Fried Egg Chip w/syrup. Checkout the photos as you'll be drooling. Everything was tasty. Service was good and efficient. The server was good in making suggestions. A good selection of ramen, fried rice, and noodle dishes which we passed on. There's plenty of free parking near the restaurant. Only steps away from the Starlight Casino. We were able to make reservations. Nice ambience.
Be the first to ReplyPardon my half eaten dishes LOL we were all so hungry.
Dim sum was decent and we were satisfied. Service was a little bit unusual especially if you don't speak Chinese...but overall friendly. Prices were a bit high for some of the portion sizes and the menu items are a bit different than typical dim sum places.Food: 7/10Experience: 7/10Service: 6/10Value: 5/10
Be the first to ReplyThere's not much to dislike about Kirin New West.
The dim sum is always excellent. For people used to Westlake and similar places, the portions here may seem small, but they do pack a punch when it comes to refinement and taste.Size matters when you're trying to hide behind cheaper ingredients or a less skill chef, but Kirin has nothing to hide. Their ingredients are top notch as are the skills of the dim sum chefs.Of particular note are the various steamed dumplings and their squid ink sweet & salty egg yolk buns. However, since the recent lockdown & subsequent reopening, their menu has been a little lacking in variety. They've pared down the selections offered and also don't change them up as often. A bit of a shame as I used to come here much more frequently when there was more choices on offer.Speaking of choices, their evening menu is also pared down a lot. There's still a decent amount so at least something for everybody but there used to be so much more. The service here use a mix of extremely friendly and attentive, to polite but you have try hard to flag them down. Usually leaning on the attentive side, but when they're busy the staffing levels are a little less than ideal.Pro tip if you like a touch of spice.Ask for some XO sauce. Theirs is particularly good & when paired with har gow or sui mai, what a marriage made in heaven! They also have branches in Richmond and Downtown Vancouver but New West for me is the best of them.
Be the first to ReplyWe came to celebrate a birthday in the family.
It's the first birthday celebration we've had as a big table in awhile so we were quite excited. We decided on the roasted suckling pig set at Kirin for $760. We added some extra things as we were a table of 13 instead of 10 (which is how many this set was originally made for). All the dishes were pretty good except for dessert but I'll get to that later. Firstly, my apologies for the lack of photos. As it's a family gathering, I didnt want to make it awkward by having to take photos of everything so my apologies! The first thing that came was the soup. The soup was very delicious. They used a lot of ingredients in the soup and you could taste the effort they put into it. I love that they give you the ingredients on the bottom of the soup dish so you can see what's in it. Next dish was the roasted suckling pig dish and man was this a show stopper. A lot of places when they say they serve suckling pig it's usually not a suckling pig. Kirin definitely pulled out all the stops and found that suckling pig for this meal. The skin was so crispy and thin. I hate to say it again but it was delicious. The fat layer beneath the crispy skin wasn't overly oily it added a layer of depth to the dish and then you hit the ever so succulent meat. What more is there to say. After you eat the top part. They take the dish back into the kitchen to chop into smaller bits for you to enjoy the meat. After that comes the lobster in consomme with squash, veggies and noodles. The lobster was very large and had a lot of meat to it. The noodles and the veggies soaked up the sauce from the lobster nicely. Another great dish. Roasted marinated chicken was another good dish. The skin was very crispy and thin. Sometimes I find the chicken at Chinese restaurants really dry but this one was not. It was very soft and fragrant.Steamed Live Rock cod - originally it's supposed to be served in congee but we were able to get it just steamed. This Rock cod was very fresh. The waiter told us they had just gotten it today. The meat was very bouncy and the sweet soy sauce was able to accompany the fleshy meat nicely. The veggie dish was slightly disappointing as they were unable to get pea shoots today. Instead we had a mixture of gailan and Bok Choy. Still nicely executed as the veggies were not overcooked and nicely seasoned but would have preferred pea shoots. Deep fried prawns dumpling in consomme - another highlight dish. The exterior of the prawn dumpling was similar to a ham siu Gok that one would have at dimsum but less chewy. Personally I felt that the consomme was not necessary. It's a soup that it served on the side that you can pour into your fried dumpling. I tried it with and without the consomme and I felt that it wasn't necessary. The shrimp was very crunchy and fresh. It was very addicting and I wish I could have eaten more of it but it's meant to be one per person (we added extra as we had more people and each one costed around 6$ each). Ramen stir fried with dried scallop and tender scallions - noodles were again cooked nicely. Lots of wok hey ( wok fire flavour). Not overly salty For dessert - we had the baked tapioca pudding, the almond sweetened soup, steamed lotus seed buns (for birthday) and durian mochis. The baked tapioca pudding and the almost sweetened soup were both a let down. The tapioca pudding was too stiff. It wasn't liquify enough. The crust wasn't buttery enough. The almond sweetened soup wasn't thick enough. Very watery and didn't have much almond flavour. The steamed lotus seed buns were very disappointing. The lotus filling was overly sweet and tasted store bought. The bun was not light enough. The only dessert that was good was the durian mochi (apparently they are famous for durian mochi). The mochi was super soft and chewy. If you are a durian lover you will love this dish. I personally don't love durian. But I'm told by my durian loving friend that they use premium durian. I tried a bit and I can say that the durian flavour was really unforgettable. It lasted through the rest of the night. Definitely tasted like basically straight up durian. Overall would definitely recommend this Kirin location. Most of the dishes blew my socks off. The execution of almost each and every dish was so well done. The desserts were a miss but I guess you can't have everything. My biggest peeve was the service. They were very prompt about changing dishes, but the dishes came out way too slow. We had to wait awhile between each dish which made the dinner drag on for 2.5 hours and yes I know your meant to enjoy but it just felt like a lot of waiting. Would have preferred to have at least 2 dishes on the table at a time or to have less wait time between the dishes. Other than that would definitely recommend a visit. I would want to come back to try their dimsum. Tip: I highly recommend you dip the crispy pork into the sugar. It adds an extra layer of flavour.
Be the first to ReplyTop notch food and customer service.
We ordered the Peking duck and lobster cooked with basil & pepper--both very flavorful. The waitstaff (specifically Chad and Gordon) treated us like royalty. If I could give this place six stars I would.

Dim sum here is great! The 流沙包 is delicious and has gold foil on top. The staples (egg tarts, siu mai and har gao) did not disappoint. Staff were attentive despite it being a takeout order. The 排骨 takes a bit longer so be prepared to wait a bit for that/order 20-25 minutes in advance for that specific dish. Otherwise everything else was ready in 15-20 minutes which is quite quick!

March, 2021 Deep fried chicken joints -- crispy but too salty Steamed chicken feet-- chicken feet are half size as before, not puffy as usual, can taste dated oil Steamed spare ribs-- tasteless, oily, too much fat Deep fried pork, dried shrimp dumplings -- skins are too thick, not crispy And not much ingredients inside Steamed scallops and prawns dumplings -- big piece of scallop on top Of dumplings, a lot if ingredients inside Steamed prawn rice roll-- they used to put 3 big pieces Of prawns inside, but they mixed chopped Shrimp, pork and powder together and Put in the roll Durian mochi -- they still taste good as usual,But half size as before Layers cake--- a lot of salty egg inside, Still good as usual I paid $80 for 2 people lunch. This place is amazing! Some of the best Dim Sum, one of the best Shumai's ever and their scallop dumplings, yes! I ordered twice in 3 days. For dinner, their abalone is very on point, great eggplant/halibut claypot and their hot and sour soup is just next level! Fresh ingredients with shrimp in this amazingly elevated hot and sour soup. This place is one of the best, and I'm from Hong Kong! Can't wait to try more from their menu.

We've been ordering takeout from this restaurant since the pandemic began. Food was really good and tasty. Lobster was so full of meat and I like how it was prepared with the flavoring. Service is excellent and food is good.
