Kinship Washington Reviews from The Last Year
My only severe complaint about Kinship is the acoustics.
I think it is unfair to dock them a star for it, but as someone who is sensitive to auditory stimuli, I found it very unsettling. It felt like you could hear everyone else's conversations. But on to the food! Everything we had was fantastic with a few "OK" dishes. My husband and I had the mushroom torchon, the lobster french toast, the black bass, and the cocoa rubbed duck breast. Our favorite thing was the black bass (the broth was incredible). The mushroom torchon was delicious, but probably not our favorite thing ever. The duck was good, but slightly overcooked. We like it much more medium rare and have had more tender duck in DC. The dessert and cocktails were very good with a couple of misses. My husband had two bourbon based cocktails (can't remember the names) which were very underwhelming. The cocktails were not balanced and all you could taste was the bourbon. I had the Aviation and the Last Word. Very similar cocktails and both very good. I would visit Kinship if you are looking for a delicious meal, but maybe try to reserve a booth and definitely try the bass!
Pretty close to perfect.
Had dinner on Saturday night and we loved everything, from the lobster French toast to the mahi mahi. This is a very well run restaurant, service was perfectly timed and the sommelier was a joy. The apple pie, with a wink at McDonald's was a perfect ending. Michelin star deserved.

Food was so good! Had the black bass and the mushrooms, with banana crepe for dessert. But can't recommend the service. Slow, inattentive, our waiter wasn't interested in describing the menu at all, and he got one of our dishes wrong. That's just annoying when they are putting a mandatory 23% tip.. but providing 15% level service

Was in DC for a work trip and a coworker reserved this experience for us 4. Everything was amazing. Service, Food, atmosphere. You really can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu. All 4 of my coworkers gave it 5 stars. Kinship is also Michelin rated. Def worth it. I can't wait to travel back to DC with my husband so he can try it out.
What a disappointment.
Food was good, but service was terrible. The artichoke soup and the duck were delicious. The server didn't provide the best guidance when ordering, never placed an order for a shared appetizer, made inappropriate (racist?) comments, gestured one the guests to pass him an empty plate, set the table for a course we had the finished 5 minutes before.......Unfortunatelly, the service only slightly improved after the manager took over. Desserts were good, but dissappointing that the espresso a guest ordered, was serviced cold and in a coffee-stained cup. Not the service and experience one expects from a Michelin Star restaurant and when the bill is topped with 23% gratuity.
Fallen Star: Poor Service Leaves Bad Taste in spite of Good Food. Very Memorable for all the wrong reasons.
The food was terrific. The service was poor for a regular restaurant, but shockingly bad for a Michelin star. Our waiter poorly explained the menu, the portions and how best to order. He failed to place the order for an entire course that we then chose to skip, and made inappropriate/disparaging comments about “white people with dreadlocks” who live in Oregon/Willamette Valley where he would "never live" when serving our Pinot Noir. He pointed and gestured at dinner guests to hand plates to him to clear without so much as a please or thank you, and failed to check on us throughout the courses. We had to flag him down for a second round of drinks, and he did not clean the table between courses after he spilled and splattered when clumsily removing a prior course. He set the table for a course he had already served and just cleared; when we asked why we had different utensils for the shared table dish, he said, "I’m not paying attention” and asked us what we ordered and what our next course was. Unfortunately, service only improved to adequate after two complaints and the manager stepping into serve the table. He shared that the “printer had been broken for a week” when explaining desert substitutions, and then served espresso cold. Michelin star? Seriously? And not once in the entire four courses did anyone ask us how is the food or seem to care. For the record, the food is great. The service ruins the experience and is topped off with a 23% gratuity.
After many years of not returning to Kinship (because we
After many years of not returning to Kinship (because we couldn't find a reservation), we squeezed in on Superbowl Sunday : - ). I write this for both the good and bad reasons why this meal may not be representative of the typical experience, because the restaurant was calm and very well staffed. For the food, all were well prepared and presented. We shared everything. To get the negative out of the way, the mahi-mahi was our least favorite. Not bad, but not too interesting. I purposefully selected it because of the flavors identified on the menu, but for us, the described flavors did not transfer to our mouths. Our favorites, on this visit, were the rock shrimp salad, duck, and quail. The rock shrimp salad invited a nice balance of texture. Also, the pickled vegetables and chilli peppers were proportioned fantastically to enhance the shrimp. We could have easily eaten another rock shrimp salad and when I got home actually wondered why we didn't ; - ). Also, because of our lactose allergy the kitchen suggested some reshuffling of our original main course selections, so we had 1 duck and 1 quail for the main course. This would not have been my first choice (to order two birds), but it worked well (and interestingly) because of the way they were both prepared, they were fantastic complements. The duck was not too sweet which is often a danger with duck courses, but once again, the balance with the savoriness and fat of the duck was in perfect harmony with the cocoa and cherry. For the quail, the grapefruit and cilantro really brought out the flavor of what is, often, a not interesting fowl. Just like at Métier, Kinship's menu shines when balancing textures and flavors. I think this is my favorite part of both restaurants. For this price, service was where it needed to be. Prompt and friendly. Wine arrived before each course. Also, our server and sommelier used some real thought in pairing our selected courses with the wine. Tableware changed on cue, and water and bread were always refreshed as needed without being too intrusive. My one nit is that if we can't have a tasting menu (like at Métier), we like a server who will take the reins and make the menu for us. This did not happen even though he tried to helpful, and much of this is personality driven, so it may be us finding the right server who likes to share what she or he believes are the best courses. For the price, after reincluding the $50 deposit when making the reservation, the total price including the automatic service charge/ tip of 23% was $291. We had 5 glasses of wine, two main courses, two starters, two desserts, and one coffee. At first, I thought we had a really good value for the price and food. When we left, we felt satisfied. However, we both felt a little hungry within an hour. Therefore, to be fair, we probably should have had one more course to feel satisfied, so the price should have been around $350. However, this is still a pretty good value for what you get and worth another visit (assuming we can secure another reservation before the next Superbowl : - P ).
Kinship is a solid four.
The winter menu of 2023 was inventive but didn't have dishes that excited me. We kept it simple, ordering cocktails, salad as an appetizer and surf and turf as our mains. Execution and seasoning of the steak and lobster was perfect. Ambiance was lacking - felt very sterile and not inviting, but service made up for that kind of atmosphere.
Great Food and Wonderful Atmosphere
Amazing food & great atmosphere! The staff went above and beyond to make sure every guest was happy.
Outstanding food and service.
Restaurant very accommodating of dietary restrictions (vegetarian/ vegan) even with the set menu. Family dinner, party of 8. We loved it so much we came back with a party of 8 two weeks later. Amazing experience. Flavors and textures extraordinary. We had a la carte the first time and the set menu the second visit two weeks later. Phenomenal wagu and scallops.
We could not have been more excited about this restaurant.
Menu and reviews looked incredible. And the food delivered in a big way. The duck/bass/quail/crab cakes could not have been better. But ambience and especially service were very underwhelming. As you walk through the door, you enter what appears to be a sad NYE party where you are the first guest. The bright lights, walls, furniture and odd music created a very clinical ambience. But it was the service that was especially disappointing. The waiter could not have been more disinterested and made us feel incredibly unwelcome. We would have rather ordered from an iPad, then deal with this guy. We addressed with the manager and he said that they aim for a comfy environment, which was the complete opposite of the reality. Truly a forgettable experience despite good food.
Amazing food excellent service. Great wine list

Birthday Dinner
My husband and I went here for my birthday dinner. This restaurant has a small menu with a few options to choose from. They recommend you try an appetizer, entree and dessert from the menu -- if you choose any more, it may be too much food. We did as the waiter suggested and walked away full, but not overly stuffed. We shared the lobster toast appetizer -- I saw a lot of recommendations for it and it was good, but not as good as I expected. For my entree, I had the scallops -- maybe I did not read the menu properly or what, but I was not expecting the sauce to be as spicy as it was. Given the unexpected spice, I was not the biggest fan of my entree. My husband had the sea trout and enjoyed it. My dessert, the chocolate chip cake, was the best part of my meal. My husband had the phyllo pudding which he enjoyed. The restaurant had a nice ambience. The bathrooms were clean and had lit candles making it smell nice. Service was excellent. I was underwhelmed for the price we had to pay.
Overrated Food, Bad Service
Seated in the basement due to special event with secret service in main dining room (nobody told us in advance). Had to summon the tall, burly foreign waiter every time we needed something; he never pro actively came to us. Every course took 5 minutes too long to serve. Caviar dip was a joke with greasy tiny chips. Scallop dish was bland. Veal entree was best dish and fish was good. Dessert was terrible. Chocolate cookie cake was kindergarten level - stale muffin with crumb debris and sauce splashed across plate. Brought wrong other dessert and didn’t apologize. Then apple pie was a glorified pop tart, nothing special. Waiter was clearly in over his head, flustered, unfriendly and had to pull teeth to get anything from him. 23% service charge is Highway robbery. Avoid
Sub par service ok food
Traveled to DC for a weekend restaurant tours. My wife and I were initially very excited about trying this Michelin star restaurant; however that was short lived. Reservations were made a month in advance and confirmed a week prior. We were guaranteed a nice table in the dining room. My wife is extremely gluten intolerant and asked numerous questions regarding this prior to confirming our reservation. The manager on the phone stated not a problem and our menu would be marked gf and ensured no cross contamination. When we arrived we were seated at the bar (first red flag). Our waiter was a bartender who only came to our table twice- once with a cocktail second to take our order. When placing our order the waiter/bartender clearly has no idea what was gluten free and ignored us when we requested assistance with the menu. We made the best guess as we could and went from there. We asked to keep a menu to order a variety of dishes to share in which the waiter proceeded to take our menus anyway. That was the last time we saw him. Other staff brought food to our table. We attempted to get someone’s attention numerous time for wine service with no avail. The food was good but had to request another staff for a desert that again no questions were answered. Summary food was good but not at the level of a Michelin star- service was extremely sub par after we even tried to get a server’s attention. I guess good news is we had anticipated spending twice what we did; however with no service that didn’t occur.
Great food, horrible service
The food here was delicious. We had the crab, chutoro, quail, halibut, and lobster French toast. Unfortunately the service from our main server was awful. The host was great. After drinks, we had to ask someone else to take our order. Mid service improved. But after mains were cleared, nothing. We waited over 30 minutes and finally asked for our check. 50 minutes after our mains we cleared we left without dessert. The 23% mandatory service charge was definitely not earned. Unfortunately great food isn’t always enough to make up for poor service.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.

LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
