Simply delicious and tasty food
We had two wonderful meals here. Liked it so much the first time that we booked again within the one week we were here in NYC. The staff are friendly and engaging and the general ambience is really good. Simple things such as the yellow and red peppers as part of our starter tasted better than Iโve ever had before. Just one example of how they manage to get so much flavour into every ingredient. Small menu but better for it in my opinion, so that more care and attention is given to the preparation and cooking of each dish each day. Certainly enough choice for most tastes though. The emphasis is definitely on taste and not necessarily how the dish looks, which is fine by me.

Booked based on recommendation for a special occasion.donโt go here expecting standards of River Cafe in London, for example! Corner table inside at 8pm. Loud speaker above our heads. Disinterested waiting staff. Chick pea fritters pasty and dull. Stodgy pasta dish over sauced. Pork chop under cooked. Very expensive wine list. Flavourless ice cream. Insanely expensive for the quality of the food. Daylight robbery!
Be the first to ReplySpring in to King!
I've reviewed King before, but I went again with their new Spring menu and it was like a whole different menu. Such bright and vibrant plates and flavors. I had the Spring nettle pesto pasta and it was a blast of flavor. The menu is limited so it doesn't overwhelm you with options, but all the choices look great and you are tempted by all of them. This is always my first stop when I am in off the plane. They've always accommodated me without reservation, either at a small table in the corner or at the bar. I found the service knowledgeable and friendly without being overbearing. I will say, only once, one of bus staff hurried away one of my dishes, but my server caught it an apologized at once for the mistake. I really appreciated that they were still checking vaccination status at the door. This is no longer required in New York, but I was thankful that they are still requiring this.

King is a cut above, even for NYC. Each dish is something to be savoured and appreciated. This is truly an amazing restaurant.

King Restaurant is now my go to spot on any trip to New York. With a small, but frequently changing menu and no wrong choices, King is an easy choice for a cozy dinner in the West Village. Great cocktails too.
The service staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and I've had fairly good luck with getting a table as a walk in, if I come early enough.
hit or miss food with a side of painfully unprofessional service
The food was nothing special and the service was especially awful. Not the spot for the informed diner

The atmosphere is great - right on the corner, and get an outdoor seat. I am told the menu changes every day. I had the fish, which was delish. Original recipes and great experience.

King Restaurant on the corner of 6th Avenue and King Street is a perfect hideaway in a busy corner of nyc. There is outside cafe seating in fine weather a few tables by the fully stocked bar in front and a nice dining room in back. The cocktails are superb, the wine list is excellent and well priced. The menu is small and perfect. On our last visit the flatbread served with our cocktail was crisp with fresh herbs and delicious olive oil. The Tequila and Spruce Spritz was the perfect aperitif. The braised rabbit was delicate and accompanied by the freshest spinach and jasmine rice and steak with fingerling potatoes cooked perfectly black and blue as requested. Service discreet and wonderful and the butterscotch, Pain Perdu ice cream was just enough to send us iff into the night
Be the first to ReplySuperb at lunchtime too
What a lunch it was, first they tantalize you with appetizers of Finnochia, a type of hard salami with a bit of fennel in it and my partner had the 'carta musica with Botargga butter and wild thyme (which is a freshly baked flat bread with what I think are salted and cured grey mullet roe and wild thyme) that was really good (followed by a delicious first course of a roasted sweet pepper with tiny sweet heritage tomatoes of some sort served with a chargrilled slab of bruschetta, topped with an italian soft cheese whose name I've already forgotten. My second course was an onglet chargrilled over thyme branches, savoy cabbage and anchovy butter $26 and my partner had the Chicken paillard roasted in Graves Blanc with lentils, mustard and watercress leaves $25. Both first rate and memorable. We finished up with their home made ice cream, one was a cross between burnt caramel and maple flavoring and the other was a vanilla with a heavenly taste of lavender in it, and the third was a very fresh tasting strawberries and cream, ice cream. All good! In short, bravo for King, all excellent. I last ate there over a year ago and each time they manage to impress with their creativity and just plain great food. Service was gracious without being pretentious.

Went there yesterday with high expectations and was quite disappointed. The main reason was the poor waiter I had. It all started with the water, no ice, I had to ask for some. Then I had to dig it out of him to explain the menu, because I cannot read French or Italian. His explanations were poor and unappetizing because he did not know the menu. Then I asked for bread which he completely forgot to bring and when they did it was a half of a slice. I did complain about this and then two half slices arrived (a bounty). Bread is probably the cheapest thing a restaurant offers and boy did this look stingy. The waiter then brought me an alcoholic drink that was not mine. The waiter was very snobby and unwelcoming and acted like everything was a burden for him to do. The food was just okay and for the price it was not good. I had a cheese ravioli with chopped zucchini on top which arrived downright cold and then I had trout with almonds which was just okay and cold again. The trout had a seaweed on top of it which I usually like but this seaweed was like dumping a pile of salt on top of the fish so the entire dish simply tasted like salt. I find restaurants like this try things for the novelty rather than for the way it actually tastes which was not good in this case. The menu is very limited so there were not a whole lot of choices. For the high prices and poor service it is not going to be on my return list. I often go to a very small French bistro in midtown where the owner is there and waits on tables, the food is consistently excellent and the prices are about half of this place. This bistro looks awfully good again.

This restaurant was recommended to us by friends. It's small and cozy: the menu is comprised of three choices in each category (appetizer, main course, and dessert) along with some initial bites and a large wine list. Our waiter (Tate) knew the menu well describing each preparation in detail. We started with the panisse and crafted cocktails, followed by a lovely pasta with asparagus, seared scallops, a delicious pork chop, all paired with a lovely Rhone wine.
Great ambiance -- recommended for a food-centered evening out. I understand the menu changes frequently - so, we'll be back to see the next creations.
Quaint & cozy w/consistently delicious menus.
The place is cute, cozy, and beautifully lit during brunch hours.
The open (female-only) kitchen allows a glimse into your food preparation, however with no scent of 'kitchen' remaining on yout clothes/body after you leave.
The wine list is notable and priced accordingly, as to what you'd expect (no outlandish markups).
The food is ever-changing always divine! Our favorite is the carta di musica (esp the prep w/botarga).
Lastly, they are very patient and amenable with our 2 young daughters.
Amazing Dining Experience
We had dinner here before a Broadway show. Our server was extremely knowledgeable regarding the menu and made a wine suggestion that perfectly complimented our meal. King is a sweet, cozy space with an open kitchen. The menu changes daily which keeps it interesting. I had a red snapper/scallop dish. My son had a double cut pork chop while my daughter-in-law had their minestrone. We were all completely happy with our choices and would return again.
