This restaurant was within walking distance from our hotel
This restaurant was within walking distance from our hotel JW Marriott. We walked by and decided to try it out. It is not as good as we had expected.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered just the right things I believe.
Miso soup with little special mushrooms, special house roll, yellowtail scallion roll, toro scallion roll. In the last two rolls fish was chopped finely as I like it. Hot sake. All delicious. Had lots of complimentary high quality green tea with the meal. Service was outstanding. I found the fish very fresh. I liked the clean, modern atmosphere. Yes, it was pricey but not taking off stars for that.

Fresh sasimi, crispy tempra...Nice smooth service.Menus are a little pricy.
Be the first to ReplyWent for a business lunch and it was packed.
Come early or make reservations. They have a lot of lunch specials. I got the sushi lunch special which comes with a salad (great dressing- not too sweet), soup (I think you're suppose to slurp it?? They don't give you a spoon....), some bean sprout side (pass), cucumber roll, tuna roll, and maybe 10 nigiri. They also serve you green tea at end. Overall sushi is not that fresh.

I've not much experience with Japanese food, though I love their culture, so when I entered, I did double-check if they had veggie options. Though the maitre d seemed to think it would be fine, my actual waitress didn't have as much faith in their ability to produce a veggie dish. Out of a menu of approx 45 items, only one could be 100% confirmed as ok, so I ended up ordering that (tempura). It was beautifully presented with fresh, beautiful variety - but it was pretty bland. And properly expensive for what I got (basic salad, plain rice, pickles and fried veg). I wouldn't come back here I'm afraid...

Very good sushi, conveniently located across from the Hilton Green Park. The sashimi sampler was fresh, flavorful, and filling. Splurged on the tempura vanilla bean ice cream - deelish! Although grapes make for a strange accompaniment. Only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 was the price. Pretty spendy, but you're in central London so that's to be expected.

It's definitely expensive for the quality since it is located in Mayfair. Soba menu is ordinary in its taste and quality (not homemade no sobayu at the end). I came alone for dinner and ordered shabu shabu udon, and it was delicious compared to the soba I ordered for lunch the other day. Marcharel (?) is not worth the price. It is a lunch spot for business people near the area and than a dinner spot.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a great restaurant if you want reliably good sushi
This is a great restaurant if you want reliably good sushi without the fuss. Often filled with Japanese business men, its a place with no frills but fresh sushi. A little over priced though, for the lack of ambiance so not giving it 5 stars!
Be the first to ReplyOne of our favorite Japanese go to restaurants in central
One of our favorite Japanese go to restaurants in central London is Kiku. The restaurant is nice, clean, friendly, has everything traditional on the menu and the food is always spot on.Food: This dinner we ordered tempura udon, tempura soba, two rolls and one soft drink. Everything was exactly what you would expect - delicious! I have never had a bad dinner at Kiku and I've probably tried half the menu.Price: 45.68 GBP for two people. Yes, one would think that's expensive for noodles and rolls, but nothing in central London is cheap.Ambiance: Depending on what day you go the restaurant could be filled with Japanese business people or locals. This place is not touristy at all. And when you see Japanese business people in a restaurant you know it's good!Service: The service at Kiku is always great. The servers are very friendly and attentive.Would I go back? Yes! As mentioned it's our go to spot for good traditional Japanese food. It's consistently good on all levels and that's hard to find nowadays.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional japanese menu with an overwhelmingly large menu
Traditional japanese menu with an overwhelmingly large menu - sashimi, nigiri, rolls, hot pots, soup, tempuras .... Excellent quality, but nothing surprising or unique. It's a bit too bright and simple for a weekend night out in Mayfair, but for a last minute meal in the area, or for lunch, it's a good option as I can't image it is ever fully booked. If they dimmed the lights and updated the light oak furnishings, this place could kill it. Expect to pay Mayfair prices though.
Be the first to ReplyKiku has hire sake (or hirae sake - in case anyone searches
Kiku has hire sake (or hirae sake - in case anyone searches using that spelling)!! I love hire sake on a cold winter night with oden. I was completely over the moon to find it here. For the uninitiated, hire sake is warm sake with a fish fin in it. I know it might sound gross but it is amazing and warms you right up. Kiku is also one of my favorite Japanese places for shabu shabu. Really want to try the sukiyaki too. However, Kiku is expensive! Not too surprising given its location but it prevents me from being able to eat (and drink) there as much as I want.
