KEN San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
I came here for my birthday dinner back in March.
Having tried a good amount of the omakases in San Francisco, Ken is definitely among the top few here! The fish was fresh and we definitely were full by the end of the meal. The chef was friendly and made conversation with us through the meal. The restaurant itself is cute and intimate. It only has a handful of bar seating, so be sure to book a reservation in advance!
Absolutely incredible.
One of the best Omakase experiences I have ever had in my entire life - amazing! Just seven seats at the bar every single dish was beyond amazing. Make a reservation and go - Ken answered any questions, was fun and funny and it was beyond evident he loves what he does - 5*'

Ken is wonderful in many ways; the service is fantastic, food is outstanding throughout. The ambiance is friendly and truly authentic Japanese - just 6 at the counter, and everything was perfect, freshness of the fish , presentations. I could feel Ken-san's love of food...

Really amazing omakase in the city! Chef Ken was engaging, informative, and very gracious. All of the dishes served were fantastic and high quality. The chef really wanted to make sure we got a variety of flavors and he explained how he prepped the fish and ingredients he used to achieve unique tastes in each of his dish. The space is clean and intimate, it really made me miss Japan. Very underrated spot in the city and I hope that Ken continues to do well.
Ken was OK at best.
For a price of $250-300 per head, the food and experience should be exceptional. The food: there were probably 2-3 stand out dishes. The quantity of food was good and quality was good (not amazing), but the overall coursing felt a bit flat. The first course of a selection of sashimi was sitting out on the counter pre-cut and pre-plated for at least 15 minutes prior to serving us. At this price range you would expect different. There is a VERY limited selection of wines. The ambiance: The space is cool and intimate. Worst part is it smelled like fish. I understand this is a sushi restaurant, but many omakase spots (especially in this price range) don't have that fishy smell when you walk in the door. The service: good not great. Ken is great, knowledgeable, funny and engaging, but his staff could be a bit more knowledgeable on the menu and wine pairing. For the price I'd expect a bit more
This is one of the best meals I have had in my life.
Everything was delicious and expertly prepared but that wasn't the end of it. The entire night felt warm and inviting. Impressive from a food, service and creativity standpoint. Just a great time. Highly recommend
Such an incredibly special place.
Every bite was outstanding and Ken's vibes were second to none. I have spent a lot of time in Japan and this felt just like a spot in you would find tucked away in Tokyo. Phenomenal and worth every penny, thank you Ken and can't wait to come back.
Ken is the ultimate omakase experience.
With just 7 seats, one enters and will immediately feel special. Ken is gracious and so welcoming, sweetly beaming as he shares details about each dish as he presents to you. The entire evening was exquisite - tastes we have never experienced before in a beautiful serene and modern atmosphere. We highly recommend Ken and cannot wait to return.

Was very good comfy and the staff seemed like they were having a good time but value wasn't the best compared too much cheaper places with same fish quality and quantity

I've sat in sushi bars, really fine ones, and I know how hard this guy worked, how proud he is. I know you don't need sauce. I know he doesn't even want you to pour sauce. And I've seen customers come in and do that, and I've seen him, as stoic as he tries to remain, I've seen him die a little inside -- Anthony Bourdain Per his website: "Originally from Hong Kong, Chef Ken has over 20 years of experience as a sushi chef. In his early career, he worked in the restaurant scene in San Francisco including staging at multiple Michelin star restaurants. This led to his passion for sushi when he became a chef at Sushi Ran and then Sous Chef at Kusakabe, both working under Chef Mitsunori Kusakabe." This was an omakase experience second to none. Just six people, with Ken, eating for two hours course after course of wonderful and artful cuisine. The dishes will change of course, but this was a rare meal worth the hundreds of dollars that I paid for food, wine, sake, tip. I'd happily do this again, no questions asked. It's that good, that serene and calm, and yes, I never used sauce ;-) Highly recommended for a unique experience that is worth saving up for.
Very intimate sushi experience.
We always have fun and usually drink too much sake. Of the SF omakase options KEN is among the top tier.
Intimate and detailed omakase experience! Reservations only
Intimate and detailed omakase experience! Reservations only with each seating limited to 7 people total. Ken is very interactive and explains each item when served. It's great being able to watch the items getting assembled and the opportunity to ask any questions. Some of the items include fish that he's aged himself. As others say here as well, great experience and an amazing option for special occasions.

I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

You should probably cancel prior to the cancellation date per the cancellation policy. I would imagine you would only get reimbursed for a sold listing if you happen to be charged?

My first sale took about a week. But as the other commenter said stay ontop of your cancellation windows. There’s no reimbursement for those so make sure you cancel in time then just try again.
