Highly recommend! Definitely among the very best in the area. We've been to Katsu a couple times now and each time we continue to be impressed by their ever-changing menu. On top of that their service is also incredible and atmosphere very friendly and welcoming. Some highlights from our most recent visit: * Ankimo - the best! the most creamy Ankimo I've ever had! * Otoro - dry aged 19 days, it has a very soft texture * Ishigakigai - live clam! only available for a short season, has a very soft and crunchy texture with a hint of sweetness * Aji - the cut is really generous, and this is probably one of the best Aji I've had so far, the texture is both tender and firm, and it has a rich umami flavor * Anago - another favorite, it tastes really soft and literally melts in your mouth * Nodoguro - black throat sea perch, this one is special because the fish weights over 1 kg, so it's really rich in fat, and after slightly grilling, it becomes incredibly aromatic and melts in your mouth * Kani tempura - Kani (Hokkaido crab) is perfectly coated with flour, gives you a crispy and not greasy texture, the pumpkin flower on the outside complements the crab's fresh sweetness, overall a very delightful combination! * Tamago - a miracle piece, made with eggs, shrimp, and scallops only (without any flour), yet it tastes incredibly soft and chewy! The entire menu comes with over 20 courses. $260 pp before tax and service charge ($130 for deposit). If you're up for an authentic & outstanding Japanese omakase experience, this place is definitely worth a visit!

I've had the pleasure of trying many different omakase dinners and even ones overseas in Japan. I truly enjoy the intimate setting this place showcases. The two chefs were incredibly welcoming and I can certainly see their engagement with each and every guests. The matcha green tea was made from scratch and I absolutely enjoyed that a lot. Very tasty. The uni dish with the edible bowl was also delicious. I am also not much a fan of squid but the soup the squids were in was delicious that I was able to enjoy that dish. A few hit and miss dishes such as the spongy fish eggs-- I just didn't like the texture and really didn't enjoy that one. The crab one was also very delicious. Overall I had a great experience. However, for the price tag, I would certainly try places like the Shota or Omakase in SF.

I truly believe this is one of the best omakase experiences in the Bay Area. It stands with the best from SF / San Mateo / Redwood City and I think it stands on top. While Katsu's nigiri is excellent, the tasting also adds a number of wonderful dishes that are interesting , exciting and delicious. I often leave fine dining omakese's still a bit hungry and wanting to order additional items from an a la carte if they even offer it, but not at Katsu. I've eaten here a couple of times now and I'm full every time , which I know should be a given, but with omakase it unfortunately isn't (at least to me). Highly recommend!

...my fault for not checking the date... anyway, the lovely hostess took care of changing my reservation through prompt emails. I'm a total foodie and this was next level! If you are looking for not only incredible Omakase but also an intimate experience this is the place. High quality sushi with special fishes! Although the price is high but quality is good. They did put some wasabi into every piece of nigiri, but it's freshly made wasabi so I love it. Amount of wasabi is adjustable so just let the chief know. They only have 8 seats per slot, two slots per day. Reservation can be made through their website. Deposit is required, same as other omakase places. They will email you on the day of reservation if you want to add-on special items. Our special item was large, sweet and fresh uni! Restaurant is clean, small and cozy. Located at Castro Mountain View. Parking is not hard, there are some street parkings as well as parking lots available near the area. Service is amazing, 20% gratuity required and automatically added to the bill.

We wanted to book a future date that wasn't on their Tock yet, and Yuko was very accommodating through emails to help us reserve the time we wanted early. Parking was not too hard to find since the reservation was at 5 pm - we parked on the street outside a nearby parking garage (lots of space when we arrived, fully packed when we left) Inside we were greeted by the host who took our jackets and showed us to our seats. I believe inside it seats 9 max so very intimate. During our meal the host kept our tea/water filled up to the top, never had to ask. The food itself was special, a bit different than other omakase experiences we've had that were purely fish-focused. We tried new things such as octopus egg, snow crab tempura, and monkfish liver. I think reading others reviews will vary compared to your own experience, since what we ate was different than someone else's review from just 2-3 days ago. Every part of the 20 courses was enjoyable (although personally I felt the chef was a bit heavy handed on the wasabi), and different from the last. My favorites were definitely the monkfish liver, the otoro, the baby bluefin, and the uni handroll. Seems like others in our sitting enjoyed the monkfish liver the most as well, ordering extras of it. (they have a neat bathroom too) Thank you Katsu for a good time, and I hope others will get to experience it as well.

Every one of the dishes was immaculately seasoned and of the highest quality. Really subtle, delicate flavors - nothing in your face or overpowering. Multiple dishes with uni (sea urchin), so fresh, smooth, awesome. All the fish exceptionally fresh - the little pieces the chef trimmed off as waste would have made a great meal. Service was perfect as well. They only seat 8 people, so their staff can take care of everyone really well. Everyone was friendly and polite. The place is simply decorated in an elegant way, great attention to detail. It's true it's not inexpensive, but if you can afford it, it's an indulgence that just makes you feel like food is more than just good tasting sustenance. The variety of dishes and the standard to which each is held really makes for a special evening. We won't do it often, but we'll love doing it again for a special occasion.

I recently celebrated my boyfriend's birthday with a group dinner at Katsu. I was interested in booking a private dinner and was given the option to either secure the whole evening or just book all 8 spots for one of the two seatings. There is a minimum spend if you're interested in the private party and depending on your price point, it may be worth it. It was very easy to coordinate with Yuko (the manager). I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly she would respond back to my queries. I did read other reviews in which they missed emails from the staff prior to the reservation. Fearing that would happen to me, I preemptively reached out to confirm my reservation the day prior and was also able to place an order for their special uni dish. Chef Katsu was pleasant and served us dishes we've never had (ex: octopus egg). We had about 20 courses and he was able to adjust the amount of rice in the nirigi if you're getting too stuffed. All the chefs are personable and attentive to detail.

Every single bite was delicious, he took us on an amazing journey and experience w his flavor profiles of food/drink choices. The intimate seating arrangement, the tasteful yet simple decor and the extremely clean bathroom topped off the wonderful omakase experience!

Katsu offers its omakase experience by Chef Maruyama in an intimate 8-seat setting. I felt calmed just being in the space and ultimately, well taken care of. Each course was clearly selected with intention and sourced from various areas of Japan. I loved the variety in dishes, and it really didn't feel like I left overly stuffed, which speaks to how well portioned each course was (and Chef Maruyama offered to make sure and accommodate if we started to feel full). My standout favorites were the smoked trout from Lake Biwa, black perch (kuromutsu), and our generous add-on of the Ensui uni special. They were also so sweet to treat us to an ice cream dessert in celebration of us being newlyweds We can't wait to come back for more special occasions.

It has been a long time since I've been wowed at a restaurant... but Katsu was AMAZING! Each bite was tasty, fresh, creative. Service was attentive -- not obtrusive. Sake tasted crisp. I loved it so much and hope to eat there again soon!
I must say, the service here is definitely unrivaled by all.
My green tea was continuously topped off and the associates there just kept an eye on pretty much the entire experience. The chef introduced each item to us and how it came about to be made, and every piece was as delicious as the next. I am a sucker for toro and uni and those pieces of nigiri were arguably the best I've had, however, everything tasted extremely fresh and by the end of the meal I was actually stuffed! There were also a few items that seemed relatively new and innovative to me that really expanded my flavor palate. Hats off to the chef for creating such an amazing menu. The dessert was a house made black sesame ice cream that was light and smooth. All in all, super solid spot.

The highlight was definitely the yura uni tray (special add on order) from Awaji island. It was so sweet and delicate. The most unique tasting unit I've ever had. Katsu definitely did not disappoint. Everything we had was fresh and delicious. The menu also changes often.

Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!

Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
