While in Amsterdam, you have to try some rijstaffel - it's just a thing you have to do. Unfortunately for this visit I was there solo and it can be hard to find a place that caters to rijstaffel for solo adventurers. This place was recommended by hotel and it did not disappoint. Located at the edge of the city centre, it is easy to reach and find. They always keep a percentage of their tables open to walk ins which was great as I had not booked! I was immediately seated in a cosy nook, the lighting was dim and it gave slightly pub vibes which was exactly what I was in the mood for. The menu is fairly simple, a nice selection of starters and then a choice of rijstaffel. I went with the Kantjil sedap to start, this was like a mini indonesian tapas selection of bites. A nice variety, lightly spiced served with a choice of dipping sauces - see photo. Presentation was a bit lacking but that isn't why I was there ;) For the main I had the Nasi Rames, a combo of rice meat and veg dishes. It arrived in front of me and I was delighted - a seriously heaped dish of food, I don't remember all the names, but there was rendang, a beef stew, cucumber salad, stir fried veg, delicious crackers, satay (of course) and a portion of serundeng which I had never had before and noted the name. The serundeng is spiced, grated and cooked coconut which you can use to add flavour and texture to each of your bites of food. Heavenly. The starter was 15 which for what I got was a little bit steep, however the main was 20 and is a great value meal. If I am in the city centre again and need filling up on tasty food at a reasonable price, I will be back!
