I've been on a mission to find the best sushi in Chicago
I've been on a mission to find the best sushi in Chicago and finally got to pay a visit to Juno. Not only is this some of the best, but it might be my favorite sushi I've ever tried! I was able to snag a walk-in table and it was already getting busy around 5pm. The decor and vibe are elegant and upscale without feeling stuffy. The staff was super friendly and professional, providing me with thorough recommendations of menu favorites. I ordered the Crisp Sake maki, Juno Queen, and smoked salmon. All were absolutely phenomenal- they boasted inventive flavors while letting the flavors of the fish shine through. The salmon was so fresh that it tasted buttery. The crisp sake roll was particularly notable- the seared salmon went so well with the hint of scallion and crispy mashed potato tempura inside. Sweet unagi and unagi truffle sauce rounded out the dish perfectly. The Juno Queen was also stellar- tender salmon enveloped a super creamy garlic-scallop filling with crunch on top. The smoked salmon was presented in a glass dome that, when lifted, released a delicate smoke revealing the dish. I enjoyed how refreshing the yuzu tasted in combination with the explosion of juicy roe. It's definitely hard to find a la carte sushi of this quality. I am so looking forward to returning- Juno is well worth going out of your way to visit!
Be the first to ReplyI did an online takeout order from them on a Friday night.
The promised time was about an hour wait, which I thought was a little too long, especially when I arrived it didn't seem that busy for it to take that long. I did arrive a lot sooner than my promised time, hoping it would be close to be completed but still had to wait some time. They invited me to sit at the bar while I waited and offered me a drink and also gave me a glass of water. Outstanding top notch customer service. I ordered their Maki Combo. It came with their Tako Maguro, Ceviche and Sake Yaki. They were all delicious. My favorite was their Ceviche, then the Tako Maguro. Ceviche came with tuna, white fish and shrimp, spicy mayo and pineapple salsa. You get a nice fusion of tropical with sushi. Definitely a great combination. The Tako Maguro came with spicy octopus, and spicy tuna. It was definitely spicy, but a good spicy. And the Sake Yaki came with grilled salmon and almond. I also ordered a Miso Soup, but only because they would let me pay with a credit card unless it was $50 or more. The Maki Combo was $48. Was not a big fan of their credit card limit. It's definitely on the pricier side for what you get. The rolls are tiny. They're like bite size versions of standard making rolls. But these tiny little suckers are full of flavor. The quality and attention to detail is what you're paying for. While this isn't an everyday type of sushi place, I can definitely see myself returning.

Omakase gluten free! And it was delicious!! That's not easy to find. They are clean, meticulous about their fish and service was great! Recommend highly.
Be the first to ReplyThe sake maki roll was so bad I think it made me sick.
It also took a very long time to get our food. We had to wait for 30 minutes when we made a reservation
Be the first to ReplyCan't say enough.
5 star. Fresh product and clean/efficient delivery. Combo of efficiency and quality in unrivaled. In a food scene where it is hard to maintain a competitive advantage, juno succeeds by keeping to the basics and doing what they do at a high level..
Be the first to ReplyDelicious and worth the price for special occasions.
The Juno Queen was by far my favorite. I was in a party of 3 and they offered to add onto appetizers for equal sharing at a small up charge.
Be the first to ReplyA lovely experience here.
..sushi and sashimi top-notch...just wonderful. We also had excellent, imaginative service from our server, as we had a few food restrictions and she was receptive and extremely helpful in getting around those. Really a fine spot!
Be the first to ReplyI came to this place with my husband for a date night.
Our server Michelle was excellent. Michelle was attentive, friendly and very knowledgeable about the dishes! She recommended to us Signature Nigiri, which it was the best I ever had. Their fish was very fresh! Drinks were very tasty as well! I definitely will be returning and bringing friends along to this restaurants! Amazing staff!

Excellent upscale sushi restaurant with a sleek, minimalist interior, knowledgeable staff, and high quality fish. We sampled a good assortment of recommended fish from our server, probably about 8 orders. Everything was well-plated and thoroughly thought out with attention to detail and flavor pairings. The fish was some of the freshest I've had in Chicago and it compares to omakase experiences I've tried in New York. If you want to impress a date, Juno is your place.

Wow! Yet another disappointing expensive dinner plus we were starved afterwards...but what truly makes it super awful is that we took my mother out for the first time in 5 months since she started her chemo for stage 4 colon cancer that has metastasized into all her pelvic organs... SHE finally felt like eating but yet we all bloody left there hungry and exhausted from being teased with the delivery of our food!!! We came back after almost 3 hrs there and made omelettes after spending $615 (plus the tip) for 4 of us!! Not to mention that my 15-year-old nephew nor my mother with cancer did not drink, of course. And it was so awkward the way they brought out the sushi a few pieces at a time so that 1/2 the table had no food to eat almost every time!! We had to keep ordering & ordering bcuz pieces were small, never filled us up & weren't given to the correct person!! I am an athlete & rarely drink but had 2 Lychee martinis with no prior food all day & couldn't detect an ounce of alcohol!! It was odd. Sorry to say I had high expectations but even our seating in the front by the window was freezing! Such a downer...
Be the first to ReplyI don't understand the lower ratings.
This is easily one of the best sushi places I've been to in Chicago. All of the dishes I had were full of flavor. If you like Americanized sushi this is NOT the place for you. I'm guessing the low ratings are due to smaller portion sizes. The flavor makes up for the portion sizes. If you enjoy great tasting sushi, this is definitely the place. Service was terrific as well.
Be the first to ReplyRecent low reviews have it right, especially when it comes
Recent low reviews have it right, especially when it comes to omakase.A few things: we were seated 30 mins after our reservation with no apology, notice that it would take some extra time. Unacceptable. We weren't even offered water while waiting and another party of 2 that arrived after us was seated before us! Omakase leaves much to be desired. Kai Zan is far superior in terms of taste and value. After all the courses, my dining partner and I were still hungry. The size of fish on each nigiri was so small, sashimi bites were practically the size and thickness of garnishes. For nearly $200/pp, I expect more. For one course (the handroll), it was placed down while I was still eating another course! Com on.Overall not worth it -- even the regular menu is just too overpriced for what you get. Mediocre sushi (fish quality and taste) coupled with poor service leaves me with no desire to return.
Be the first to Replythis review is for the omakase.
2 primary issues: service and valueSERVICE:- service was VERY slow, taking 3 hours to do the omakase + get 1 extra roll. there were long gaps between dishes, and it took 25 minutes to get 1 extra roll which is just unreasonable- the long gaps are exacerbated by tiny portions; several cases of 1-bite dishes followed by a 15 minute gap until the next- delays both to be seated and to speak to the waiter once we were seated (10 min ea)VALUE:- the portion size for the omakase was very small. - in total it's 9 nigiri, 4 pieces of sashimi, 1 handroll, 2 bites of steak, and 4 very small courses (1 oyster, 2 slivers of crudo, 1 bite of smoked hamachi, 1 spicy crab/salmon bite), plus a small shaved ice dessert. that sounds like more than it was.* handroll was the highlight* nigiri were fine but mostly unmemorable (first 4 are smallish normal items, 4 were normal sized with premium ingredients, and 1 tamago)* sashimi was fine* steak was tough. 2 bitesobservation:- waiters seemed to be hustling but due to the layout of the restaurant (long and narrow) there is a lot of ground to cover. Also because many of the dishes are tiny, there is a lot of effort being spent to deliver tiny amounts of food- i think this restaurant packs in too many tables relative to the capacity of the kitchen and the number of dishes they are trying to plate. it feels like the restaurant is optimizing for profit, which is within their right, but it would give customers a much better experience at relatively low cost if they 1) reduced the number of courses in the omakase and 2) gave a bit of ground on the portion size

Dirty men's room, owner BK Park refused to talk to us, he left early. Good food, very poor service. Hosted refused to seat us in the restaurant, only bar service and it was terrible service. They should have their Michelin star taken away.
Be the first to ReplyHere's what you need to know: outstanding omakase
Here's what you need to know: outstanding omakase experience and great sake/Japanese whisky list. Exceeded my expectations. The quality of the omakase was exceptional.Every course through the progression was well thought through and complimented the previous dish. The visually Spectacular dishes were matched with the flavor construction, creativity, and execution. Even the cocktails were amazing!I would highly recommend this restaurant. No it's not cheap but you're paying for the Intellectual property, skill, and quality.
Be the first to ReplyI had been looking forward to eating at Juno for months,
I had been looking forward to eating at Juno for months, but our dinner was ruined by the condescending and rude demeanor of the manager, Winnie. Generally, we enjoyed much of what we ordered--the king salmon nigiri and the tako maguro roll was some of the best sushi I've ever had. However, four pieces of the nigiri we ordered (2 of the medium fatty tuna and 2 of the yellowtail hamachi) were incredibly fishy and unappetizing. We immediately alerted our waitress, who was so kind and apologetic. She offered us a remake, but we just asked to be comped instead (as we didn't want more pieces of the sushi that wasn't fresh). She then sent over her manager, Winnie. As we explained the scenario, Winnie immediately got combative, condescending, and outright rude. She told us in 11 years of running Juno, not one person had ever complained about their fish quality (which from looking through other Yelp reviews clearly isn't the case). She also asserted that we were just unfamiliar with high-quality sushi and fine dining, which felt pointedly offensive as we are a young gay couple. We have sushi fairly often (about once a week, and we have been to most of the top-rated sushi restaurants in Chicago). She continued to talk over us, roll her eyes, and shake her head in dismissal. We definitely won't be back and we don't recommend you spend your money at this sushi restaurant. Instead, go to a higher quality restaurant like Sushi San that actually values their customers.About 10 minutes after leaving, we both started experiencing stomach pain and feeling nauseous. It's hard to believe this was unrelated to the bad fish we just ate.
Be the first to ReplyThe sushi is SOO good and the drinks are also delicious.
The staff is awesome and super tentative. It's such a great spot! Highly recommend!

Tried the omakase menu as it takes all the decisions out of your hands. It didn't disappoint. 11 courses with the freshest food around. This is Michelin starred chef BK Park's first restaurant. His Michelin Star restaurant is Mako in the West Loop. The ambience here is less formal but the service is still excellent with amazing wait staff. Their cocktails are pretty good too and for those with children, their mocktail menu will make your little one feel like a grown-up. It gets busy over the weekends but we were there on a Thursday and it wasn't too crowded. Easily available street parking.
Be the first to ReplyWe frequently go here for our sushi.
The King and Queen is not to be missed. We are trying their omakase menu tomorrow. Will review again.

My husband and I went here on November 5, 2022 (but I am just getting the time to write a proper review). We used to absolutely love this place- seriously it was our favorite. However, their service has really declined. At this particular dinner, my husband and I ordered a ton of food (our bill was $306 for two of us). We had just ordered dessert and green teas and were both checking our phones (we have a newborn baby and was just checking him sleeping on the monitor). The manager or perhaps owner (a woman with short black hair who we see here often) rushed over and said "we need this table now I'm going to have to ask you to leave." She was extremely rude (and my green tea was a full cup and I had just started drinking it). We were flustered and quickly got up -- this woman made us feel terrible and we had no idea what we deserved to get this reaction. On the way home I felt really disappointed that as parents of a newborn we had a rare date night (that we fought hard to make happen) and we were rudely rushed out of the restaurant. Not coming back here and never recommending to any friends again. I can definitely forgive a lot (things like slow service etc). but one thing that is unforgivable is making guests feelunwanted and rushed out -- especially after they spent $306 for a dinner in this economy. No thanks, I'll take my hard earned night out somewhere that appreciates my business. Shame on this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyThis was honestly the worst place we've ever eaten at.
The NY strip was horrific, like chewing rubber and all fat. Sushi was okay but not much better than what you get at a supermarket. Our server was very nice and gracious and the ambiance of the place is great, but the meal was awful.
Be the first to ReplySomething about Juno just didn't click for me.
When you break down the dining experience into separate parts, everything seems to shine. Service was quick and professional; the waitress was fantastically friendly. Restaurant interior was well-designed and clean. ย The individual pieces of fish were fresh. The texture of the fish was good. The sushi chefs (itamae) handled the food well; you could see the skill in their knifework. The bill was expensive - but when you compare it to some of the other offerings around the city for sushi, it's not unheard of.For some reason, when you put it all together, Juno seems to falter. While the fish was fresh, the menu items seemed to lack "Umph" - something that made you beam as the food rolls through your mouth. Again, there wasn't anything that tasted strange - everything just felt very flat, very safe. The nigiri and sashimi looked to be standard in terms of size (a good mouthful), but I left the meal feeling quite unsatisfied despite the amount of money I spent.Ultimately, I try to point out in reviews concrete areas in which I felt like the business can improve upon. This review will be the (I hope) rare abstract one where the business checks off most off the boxes that should net it a higher rating, but did not get more stars.
Be the first to ReplyThis is the last time I'll mention that my wife and I are
This is the last time I'll mention that my wife and I are new Chicago transplants from Los Angeles. This is relevant for this review as L.A. is second only to Tokyo when it comes to sushi. In other words, we are spoiled rotten. Now, on to my review of Juno. First, the setup here is fantastic. Their bar is situated in the front of the house, and the dining is in the back of the house. This works great! The staff on hand are knowledgeable, nice, and ready to help in any capacity. A very good touch, I must say. The menu is an all-encompassing Japanese food representation, and there is no shortage of choices. The food we ordered was excellent, and on a special note, their homemade soy sauce was the best I've ever had. I actually drank the little bit I had left after dinner. All indications coming at me were that Juno is a five-star restaurant - hands down. So, how the hell can I give such an incredible restaurant only three stars? Simple:After spending $175.00 for dinner, we raced home, opened a large bag of potato chips, made two grilled cheese sandwiches, and watched TV because we were starving. Yes, you heard me correctly - $175 for dinner, and we came home famished. Like what the hell?Even our Michlen Star sushi restaurant back in L A. that costs just as much, at least you come home full and satisfied. Now, I completely get that Chicago is at least 1,500 miles from any salt water. This could make a difference in price and availability. I understand economics. But letting a patron leave your establishment dog hungry and at these prices, it just didn't make sense.BTW, on this Thursday night Juno's "house" was packed! I mean wall to wall, so I've got to ask myself, is this just me being a brat? I say maybe, my stomach says, Hell No!
Be the first to ReplyWe normally go to Arami and Mirai for sushi but they are
We normally go to Arami and Mirai for sushi but they are both closed on Sundays so I looked for another place to go. We came across Juno. We made a 7:45 reservation and waited a while for our server to greet us. By the time we were able to order, we had been there about a half hour. We asked if we had ordered enough and were told yes. It was nowhere near enough. Then the food came out very, very slowly. So slowly that we were told it was last call at 8:45 and we hadn't even received half of the food we had ordered. We guessed at how much food we would need to fill us up and ordered more. It was again nowhere near enough. I will never go back here. The portions aren't even (each two piece nigiri was so different in size it led to negotiations), the total check was more than better sushi restaurants and we weren't even allowed to order more because the kitchen didn't want to take orders after a certain hour despite not preparing our food within and hour or more after we arrived. The food is delicious but overpriced and the experience substandard.

If you're looking for an upscale date night place, Juno is the place for you! First of all, incredible service and interior. The sushi however was just average in my opinion. I got the chefs choice nigiri, grilled scallops, spicy tuna handrolls, and wagyu rolls and the handrolls and scallop were the star. Sushi portions were a bit small but I guess that's the price you pay for a nicer restaurant. Everything tasted amazing but for the price, it's definitely wasn't enough to blow me away. Definitely check it out if you're a major foodie though!
