Local and excellent
excellent food, fresh, tasty, creative menu. I've eaten breakfast and lunch here and would highly recommend. Every dish is excellent in the restaurant and the bakery is to die for. I love this place and will keep coming back

We really enjoyed the wine, food and the venue, its in a completely random location, but our daughter recommended it, otherwise we would never have found it. I did notice some reviews complaining about cost, I can relate a little bit to this, only because Iโve never spent so much on a bottle of wine, but then neither have I ever tasted such a quality wine either. Having done further research on where they sourced it, its bang on the money. The food was excellent, you need at least 3 dishes and dessert though. I do hope to return here, we all deserve a treat, we need to splash out every now and again. Thanks for making this experience possible.
Be the first to ReplyWeird vibes
Angel branch: staff seem like theyโre annoyed you dare walk into their shop, coffee is very ok, we sat in one time and asked for a second coffee and thought they were going to kick us out they seemed so appalled. Totally uninviting and unwelcoming
Be the first to ReplyBest place to eat in Newington Green
Went to Jolene's on a Sunday evening, delicious food, great atmosphere, staff friendly and helpful. We enjoyed it so much that we returned on a morning for pastries/cakes,best we have ever had. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyI ate there so that you don't have to!
Where to start? ยฃ80 for four 'SMALL' plates and two small glasses of house wine. If you're over 30 it's unlikely that you'll fall for the hype. ยฃ9 for a serving of 'Fresh Salad' on a tea plate; bitter green leaves, drowning in 'mustard' dressing, with way too much mustard. Sourdough bread which tasted inexplicably of aftershave?? The lamb pappardelle was watery and so over-salted that it was practically inedible. 'Trout with cucumber and leeks', as advertised on the board at ยฃ23, turned out to be a very small fillet of salmon trout with 4 cubes of raw cucumber and a couple of 1" rings of cooked leeks. Unexciting is an understatement. Following the pappardelle, we waited just over 15 minutes for the trout; no offer of clean plates on which to eat the fish, given that our tea plates were sodden with watery meat juices from the lamb pasta - train your staff! Other gripes: when you book you'll be told that there will be a charge of ยฃ30 per person on the card you booked with if you don't turn up. I arrived bang on time, only to be told that there was a staff meeting and I was to wait outside until summoned. After 10 minutes I ventured back inside, having not been summoned, only then was I led to my table. Sharing tables - NOBODY likes this! Maximum profit for the restaurant, minimum privacy/intimacy for the diner. The cafe was less than half full when I was there, yet a couple was plonked next to me and my fellow diner for no plausible reason. A service charge of 12.5% is automatically added to your bill, which always ruffles my feathers, surely a tip is meant to be a gratuity that you bestow upon your server in recognition of good service - not an assumption of the restaurant owner who decides that the customer will subsidise his employees' wages. Turns out that Jolene was conceived by the very same restaurateurs who came up with Primeur. When that first opened in Petherton Road, I went in person to make a booking (only due to nostalgia, as I'd rented the second-floor flat for several years as a student in the early 80s). They refused to take the booking - declaring that I had to tweet them if I wanted a table for 4 the following evening. Needless to say, I really couldn't be bothered!

Amazing evening, food was stupendous and service excellent. In particular, we adored the Parmesan and lemon salad and courgette pasta but the other pasta dishes, olives, bread, deserts and coffee were all delicious. . Hope there is a recipe book coming soon and wIsh they would open a branch near us in the food desert that is NW3
Be the first to ReplyExcellent!
Excellent on every point except from that they could be more allergy friendly (they currently donโt have gluten free alternatives for bread or pasta). Very nice staff, environment, and food!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolute joke
Ridiculously priced, microscopic portions, pretentious as hell. Wake up, thatโs Newington Green, not Mayfair!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food let down by poor service
Table - next to a drafty window
Attempt to get served in a not too busy lunch service - about 15 minutes
Food - delicious cod roe starter, gnocchi ok, then nothing, despite ordering another dish at the start
Attempt to get waitresses attention (they were busy talking to each other by the til) - another 10 mins
Final dish - not as ordered when eventually arrived, and no attempt to apologise, just a "do you want it or not?" and a shrug of shoulder. We felt too awkward to send it back and it was ok, but not as ordered and for a ยฃ100 lunch we expected more.
A Champagne Socialist bubble
Is this the pretentiously overpriced, small-portion place on Newington Green where the largely white, Lefty woke brigade, metropolitan elite go to show-off? If so, I went there in November 2021. I only walk past now though, but it's such fun looking in and seeing all the fakeness with their eyes focusing on the heap of molten metal celebrating feminism on the Green in the near distance. Evidently, most of these "pleased with themselves" Champagne Socialists have read the review in the Guardian and enjoy chilling in Jeremy Corbyn's constituency. It's hilarious !
Be the first to ReplyDelicious small plates for sharing
This is the perfect lunch for me - small plates to share with friends. Getting to try lots of different things is the best way to eat, especially when it's all so delicious. Staff lovely too.
Be the first to ReplyMeat was so poorly cooked
Went there for dinner after hearing good things. Ordered the Beef sharing plate as a main and was pretty much inedible, so tough. The staff were kind of apologetic and gave us a dessert but still the main thing we ordered was terrible. The rest was nice but I think it's a bit overrated. Also had a bun from them before which was terrible, had some treacle or something but looked good but in reality was impossible to eat and not very tasty...
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service
This is a restaurant that serves small plates that are meant for sharing. So if you're after a plateful of grub, then don't go there. But the food is really tasty. The menu changes every day. I thought that the food was good value. It's the wine that's expensive, albeit fine to drink. The service was excellent and attentive. I will definitely go back.
Be the first to ReplyThe epitome of fake
Incredibly fake and pretentious. Only appears to cater for a mostly white, middle-class metropolitan elite who exclusive read the Guardian and Observer. Perhaps that's their USP. If so, then they're on target as there are endless streams of Millennials who never carry cash let alone even know what cash is. Jolene's is extremely overpriced for what they deliver and just exists on a superfluous foundation of naรฏve chattering classes who comfortably live in their own artificial bubble. Next !
Be the first to ReplyIncredible, period
This is just up the road from where my husband and I live, and it's simply incredible. The menu changes so often that we are happy to eat there every week or two, and the meal is never the same. I'm really surprised to read some negative reviews about it - yes, the dishes are on the smaller side as they are meant for sharing. Our typical spend is ยฃ50 - ยฃ60 pp with drinks and for the quality, ambience, service and the attention to detail, I can't fault it. There are other nice places around NG, but this one to me is the jewel in the crown.
Be the first to ReplyGood but portions small
Visited for lunch and enjoyed the anchovies and meatballs. The pasta dishes were mostly good although we had a truffle pasta which was expensive and bland. Portions small for the price. Nice atmosphere in the restaurant
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant, but too small food portions!
It is the second time I book Jolene for dinner, and we noticed this last time the portions were smaller and prices were higher ? Not enough food for the price, it is a shame as it Jolene is a great restaurant concept! and would love to come back, hope this is a constructive feedback!
Be the first to ReplyBuzzy stokey gem
We came for our anniversary meal, if youโre into industrial decor vibes this place is for you.
Really nice buzzy vibes, great selection of wines.
Attentive friendly service who explained menu and the suggested ordering was perfect for us, we were stuffed!
We had mortadella and pickles, focassic, croquetas, a pasta dish, cabbage (absolute highlight this was UNREAL) and the skate to share.
Would defo come again!
