Jeong Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
The menu is well-balanced and many of the flavors are
The menu is well-balanced and many of the flavors are distinctly Korean with a taste almost as true and authentic to what you would find in Seoul. However, one key item, the Australian Waygu wasn't served hot enough and lacked in flavor, somewhat reminiscent of pastrami. Among the highlights of the dinner, the salmon tartare was fantastic and the courses were delicately balanced. Michelin star worthy.
Best Korean Food we've had
Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. A serious adventure for the pallet across an 8 course tasting menu. My wife and I were lucky to choose the wine pairing menu and it fully lived up to what you would expect. All the staff are incredibly knowledged about all of the items they serve and that only adds to the overall experience. 10/10 hands down.
Very unique and thoughtful tasting menu with a play on some
Very unique and thoughtful tasting menu with a play on some classic Korean dishes. My favorites were the mussels as well as the salmon with crispy rice pearls. The cocktails were also super innovative I love when they tie in elements that usually aren't seen in cocktails. I got the gochujang and roasted barley I'm not sure that I'd come here again, but it was a great experience to try once!
Stellar experience.
Kind and friendly staff, beautiful decor, phenomenal dishes. We celebrated my birthday here and could not have had a more enjoyable time. The staff accommodated my hopes to swap out the meat dishes with fish and the results were delicious. My husband enjoyed the wine pairings -- I had a few glasses, as well as the three delectable alcohol-free cocktails. Standout dishes includes the fireworks of beef broth ice with spicy mustard flavor (no yellow in sight) under raw white fish. The "kkaetnip" was another complex dish of yogurt, buckwheat and intensely flavored sweet ice. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Excellent, thoughtful dishes, space was beautiful and service was impeccable. If you are well versed on restaurants of this caliber and enjoy the tasting menu experience, you will not be disappointed on portions or variety. Highly recommend giving it a try.
Find it and try it.
Great service, team was knowledgeable of the food and drinks being served. Food was outstanding. Great place for a date night
I feel terrible for not taking more photos but the reason
I feel terrible for not taking more photos but the reason why was the food was so good I totally forgot. We're foodies and this meal was a birthday meal. We have been to Jeong before hence us coming back for a special occasion and they did not disappoint at all. The only thing I'm disappointed about it that it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It definitely deserves a Michelin star. However this place was a James Beard finalist a couple of years ago. Standard hasn't dropped. If not, it has gone up. The wait staff are so professional and attentive and even asked Chef to come out as it was my sons' birthdays and they loved the meal so much they wanted to meet the chef. The food is a fusion of Asian and western flavors but so thoughtfully made and beautifully plated. Surprisingly for me, the dessert was my favorite. Will be coming back again and if you want a Michelin starred meal without the price...try this place out
Okay, i grew up with all these flavors.
But never like this. This was one amazing experience. I just can't believe how jeong/chef Dave was able to understand the flavor profile in a way that can be evaluated. I just don't can't explain in words what i just went through. I still have one dish left but i couldn't wait to talk about this place. I need to take my foodie friends from out of town.
I loved the inside of the restaurant, it was very enticing
I loved the inside of the restaurant, it was very enticing and beautiful. Service was on point. They were very perceptive on each table's needs. As for the tasting, I liked the Korean influence since there aren't many tasting menus in the city with the same ingredients and flavor. I gave 4/5 because I left still hungry so maybe some of the portion sizes need to be a smidge bigger.
The food was sensational, fixed menu tasted a very nice
The food was sensational, fixed menu tasted a very nice variety of unique flavors and elegantly presented dishes. If the food was the only consideration, this would be a 5 star review. However, poor scheduling and timing on the part of the restaurant severely undermined the experience. Since the menu was fixed, there was no delay in the placing of our orders, and each dish came out quite quickly, making the pace of dinner feel a bit rushed. Considering we had been seated 5 minutes prior to our reservation, this felt a bit strange. Before the final dessert course, we were asked if we'd like to place orders for coffee/tea, which we did. We received dessert, then shortly after we received our coffees. Immediately upon completing the dessert course, we were given the check. The staff was quick to take my card and give me the receipt, which occurred well before the coffee was cool enough to drink. We were surprised when the front of house then asked if we could leave our seats and finish our coffee in the 'lounge', which was simply a waiting area in the front of the restaurant. This occurred around 1 hour and 50 minutes into our reservation. For a $400+, 8 course meal, which was timed strictly by the restaurant, being asked to leave our seats in under 2 hours was unacceptable. The otherwise wonderful experience was overshadowed by this forced end to our dinner. Jeong should be far more careful and planned with timing in the future; rushing customers out immediately upon completion of their meal, for a restaurant of this caliber, is unacceptable.
A fantastic date spot with a beautiful interior and helpful
A fantastic date spot with a beautiful interior and helpful staff delivering elevated contemporary Korean food. They have a great tasting menu with a wine pairing if you'd like or you can try some of their delicious cocktails. Each dish is well balance with acid, sweet, fat, and the depth of flavor that makes each dish outstanding. It's hard to pick favorites but the scallop and skate stood a little bit above the rest. This is a must try menu.
I passed over a Michelin 3 star restaurant to eat here.
At the end of my meal, I wondered "how could that have been any better than this" The service, menu, location, and food is impeccable without being pretentious. Get the wine pairing. I've worked in Korea and enjoyed nice restaurants. This remains one of the best meals I've ever had. I would hop on a plane and fly to Chicago to eat at this restaurant. It as sublime.
High-end Korean cuisine in a modern setting
We have eaten at Jeong prior to the Covid pandemic when an a la carte menu was still available and selected their tasting menu; it was an excellent meal and we resolved to come back. It took a few years but we returned with high expectations. This time Jeong offers only an 8-course tasting menu. The first 4 were seafood - mussels, salmon scallops, skate - followed by bibimbap and wagyu beef. We did not choose their wine pairing, drinking cocktails and white wine instead. We dined in a very contemporary yet welcoming setting but it was the service that elevated the already excellent food. Jeong is most definitely worth a visit.
Superb experience - one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time
Chicago friends took us here and it was one of the best meals we’d had in a long time. My husband and I are pescatarians so they had to modify a couple of dishes and swap out one beef dish for a different fish dish than we already had. Everything was done superbly. The service was great, the ambiance was lovely and everything we had, including the cocktail and the mocktail I had after it, were delicious. The scallop was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten!
Charming and welcoming modern take on Korean tasting menu
Jeong is a Modern Korean tasting menu. Owned and operated by a husband and wife team in their 20's. They are incredibly talented and their welcoming customer approach is second to none. Dinner there is light, elegant and not overly long. Delicious and inventive. A great modern adaptation on the tasting menu thing which broadens their appeal and clientele. Very wine friendly. They are some of the friendliest and warmest people I know. Worth a stop.
