During my recent visit to this restaurant, I was immediately impressed by its decor and the service. The ambiance, characterized by tasteful decorations and a welcoming atmosphere, set a promising stage for the evening. Additionally, the staff were attentive and polite, contributing positively to our overall experience. However, the dining experience was marred by the erratic timing of our food arrival. My friends and I encountered a puzzling situation where we had to eat at different times because our dishes were served randomly. This disruption in meal synchrony detracted from the communal joy of dining together. Regarding the food, our opinions were mixed. The ramen was disappointing, falling short of expectations in both flavor and texture. On a brighter note, the maki and rolls were generally good, offering a redeeming factor to our culinary journey. The nigiri presented a hit-or-miss scenario; while some pieces were enjoyable, others lacked the quality and finesse one would anticipate. A notable absence on the menu was salads, a simple yet versatile option that we missed. Another aspect that detracted from our comfort was the seating arrangement. The proximity of the seats to one another meant that privacy was compromised. We found ourselves inadvertently becoming part of neighboring conversations, further amplified by the loud music. This lack of space and the overpowering audio made for a less relaxing dining environment than desired. In conclusion, while there were elements of the restaurant that we appreciated, the overall experience left us feeling that there are better dining options available. The combination of inconsistent food quality, awkward meal timing, and the crowded seating arrangement means I am unlikely to return. For those considering a visit, it might be worth exploring other venues to find a dining experience that more consistently meets expectations.

It was busy when we went, the service was great but the food was overpriced and a bit underwhelming. The sushi was good but some of the Asian fusion menu items were a bit too simple for a higher end price tag.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for brunch and loved everything.
My friend and I decided to split a few items and we devoured everything especially the pancakes (they stole the show). We also had their egg soufflé and spicy tuna dip. Both were equally delicious. Will have to return soon to try their sushi as well.

I had nigiri, sashimi, miso soup and the Tantan Ramen. OMG! Deliciooouuussssss!!!!! The ambience was light, kind and unpretentious. The service was excellent and the music was good. What more could a girl ask for?? This may be my new favorite ramen spot. YUUUUMMMM!!!

The ambiance is very aesthetic -- very modern & chic! I would highly recommend the Ebi Tom Yum handroll if you want to love Tom Yum! Super flavorful & delicious!
Be the first to Replythe service brought the rating so far low.
We made reservations for 8:00 and didn't get seated until 9pm!! To put this into reference, they close at 9pm -_- We had the restaurant week menu which included appetizers, main course and dessert. We had to order all at once. Even after we put in the order they came back at the end of the dinner and told us they ran out of the desserts that we ordered. It was an upsetting experience. In terms of the food, the only items recognizable were the nigiri and sashimi which was exceptional.
Be the first to ReplyIf rating on food quality alone, definitely 5 stars.
Almost every bite was delicious. (The TCD was a bit oversold in the tribune review; I wouldn't get it again. But everything else we tried was great, especially the hand rolls.) Service was almost too attentive when we got there (with dishes coming out together instead of staggered) but became extremely slow as it became busy. And it was a tad overpriced, we spent $350, and I went home and ate a slice of pizza.
Be the first to ReplyLoved spending an afternoon lunch here.
They were serving the brunch menu when I walked in. Everything sounded delicious but just wanted to try some sushi rolls so we got 2. They were delicious, fresh and filling. Light ambiance in the restaurant. Service was great and accommodating to food allergies within the party and our server recommended a roll off the brunch menu to ensure we'd both be able to enjoy the selections. Looking forward to going back and trying other menu items.
Be the first to Reply5/5 on everything.
Sasha took care of us tonight and was so knowledgeable on everything + was loaded with suggestions (even though we could have eaten everything). For being so full the place really still was intimate and easy to hold a conversation in! We sat at low tops in the middle (where the action was) and both the chair and the booth were very spacious and cozy. Even though chair side gets a bad wrap Itoko makes it better by adding mirrors behind the booth side so now both chair and booth get to people as a team #couples #power #creeping Okay. Food. Wow. Blue fin tuna was our favorite and though we only ordered 2 pieces we want to come back and just order like 10 to share.. the mushroom/roe toppings were mind blowing. Get them. Pls? I was Surprised most with how much I loved the shishito peppers. The shredded fish flakes melted like Parmesan- I.. mowed through them. 5/5 Drinks were excellent, for sure go for the dragons milk cocktail if you're drinking, otherwise if you're sober the soy sauce was good enough to drink. Service was top tier and everything was absolutely worth it for a wonderful night out. Can't wait to come back again soon

Such a beautiful restaurant with a delicious brunch! I enjoyed everything I ordered in the gorgeous ambiance here.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent all around! So excited I got to try this place!
Excellent all around! So excited I got to try this place! Ambience is STUNNING - minimal, light wood, west coast vibes. Intimate and upscale. Food was so exciting...I think we tried one of about everything on the menu. This would be a good place to go with like 3-5 friends, where you can order a lot and get small bites of everything. The sushi was the best I've had in Chicago, hands down.Fabulous service, we never once felt like we were waiting on anything. I absolutely cannot wait to come back. Very impressed.
Be the first to ReplyYou may be coming here because you've heard it's the new
You may be coming here because you've heard it's the new Boka group opening from Gene Kato (of Momotaro). You should then be pleased to hear I believe Itoko lives up to the same standard of Momo, which is one of my faves in Chicago. The menu is less traditional and more trendy/ pushes boundaries, such as with the Wagyu roll (which was delicious). The fish here was all of great quality. Compared to Momo, however, the robata aspect falls short in the spread of their selection. I wish they will add more offerings in the future. Also, the service, while terrific, was not quite as streamlined or professional as what I'm used to from Momo, although I expect this may be related to their recent opening. Overall, this is definitely a great addition to Lakeview. If you are looking for a trendy Japanese spot, this is the go-to for 2023. Great for dates. The tables are rather close together (tables next to ours was ~1 feet apart) so if you are looking for an upscale/ after-work experience, Momo is probably a safer bet for now. 5/5, loved it.

This place is gorgeous!Dinner time is cozy and loud but not unbearable. We were seated in a booth next to the wall which was so nice.Host and servers were great - super kind, knowledgeable and helpful.Food (in order of my favs) - enough for 2 people and left full:1. Chutoro Nigiri - so fresh and melts in your mouth2. Akami Nigiri - so fresh and melts in your mouth3. Shiitake Robato - the best mushrooms I've ever eaten!4. Momo Jr - tuna was so fresh (not a fan of octopus but took this off and my fiancé loved it)5. Beef Chahan - bigger than photos shown, great presentation and beef had a ton of flavor. Plenty of beef too.6. Ramen - came out hot, lots of flavor, and plenty of noodles. There was some ground pork is at the bottom.7. Spicy tuna - was good but I think the nigiri's really are more worth it to experience the flavor and freshness! My fiancé ordered Yama roll and loved itI will dream about the nigiri and shiitake robato.Overall had a great time. Some of the reviews made me rethink my reservation but we personally are glad we followed through and had a great time.

Was so excited to try this new addition to Southport but wasn't great. First off, getting seated upstairs was such a disappointment. It looks like a dentist office or grandmas living room. None of the beautiful decor, vibe, excitement from downstairs. Second, so pricy!! We spend $170 on a bottle of wine, 3 rolls and 2 soups. It was good maki but so overpriced. We left hungry because we didn't want to spend more. The service was lovely but didn't make up for the disappointing upstairs. If you go, make sure you request main floor.
Be the first to ReplyWe ordered:1.
Whole Branzino - shiso and shichimi crust, pickled bamboo shoot salad 2. Handrolls:Momo Jr - tuna, spicy tako, pickled daikon, sweet soy / Shio Koji Salmon - avocado mousse, crispy salmon skin, trout roe / XO Scallop - diver scallop, xo sauce, scallion, puffed soba / Mecha Kucha - bluefin tuna, uni, kaluga caviar / King Crab - ginger mayo, tempura shallot, lemon3. "TCD" Tuna Toro - kaluga caviar, pickled onion, sushi rice, nori4. Orange Kakigori - soy and mascarpone mousse, orange gelee, freeze-dried satsuma5. Donatsu - matcha semifredo, maple flakes, sansho chocolate ganacheOur favorite new Itoko dishes were the whole Branzino and the desserts. Branzino was completely deboned, perfectly cooked, and great flavors from both crusts. Great textures and flavors in both desserts. Most handrolls didn't stand out but our favorites were the king crab and tuna caviar rolls. Shishito peppers, shiitake mushrooms, and beef chahan from Momotaro were delicious as expected.Place was pretty packed so the service was slow. Employees were polite at least.
Be the first to ReplyFABULOUS! Great ambiance and even better cocktails.
Knowledgeable staff and great service with a smile. Highly suggest the Branzino fish, it was spectacular and the Brooklyn cocktail is a must.
Be the first to ReplyExcited to try this new restaurant on Southport.
Lots of hype. Unfortunately it didn't quite live up. Ambiance was lovely. As was some, but not all of the food. And very very pricey. What we liked: sashimi was yummy, definitely some for the freshest I've tasted in Chicago. Shishito peppers were also bomb. Super yummy sauce. And the chicken Robata had a ton of flavor. What we didn't love: hand rolls were super dry and bland. Miso soup tastes generic. And the service was very very slow. Restaurant was hopping but took almost 30 minutes to place order. And another 30-40 mins for first dishes to come out. I will definitely try again as the menu is large. Hopefully the food and service will deliver.

Here to say the food was great, but the wine pours for $15+ glasses of wine should be illegal. Actually infuriating and laughable.

when I find a bone in my $24 hand roll I expect not to pay full price for it. Yes, I made my server aware.I've been to several omakases and well known sushi restaurants in New York and itoko, although quality ambiance, fell short from a food perspective.Loved the amuse Bouche but menu items were limited and service was slow/poor. Been to several other establishments with Boka group but this was not my favorite from a service/food perspective.Gyoza was mediocre and had hoped for more diversity cold/hot items, it's a place where you try once and probably don't go again. However the beef special roll was a great culinary surprise and one of the best handrolls I've had in Chicago. Ponzu jelly is epic! Drinks were good too- but for more menu options and better service I enjoyed momotaro much more.

An amazing new restaurant to Southport! Itoko's fish was unbelievably fresh and you can taste that in every single bite. We had a little bit of everything & nothing disappointed! The service was a little on the slower side but that is understandable considering how new the restaurant is; but the hospitality was great otherwise. We tried the miso soup, hand rolls, rice, tuna & caviar + some other restaurants recommendations. If you're a sushi lover, this place is perfect for you!

Boka seems to have lost its stride between Itoko and Le Select. First of all, I hate how much of the character of Southport Lanes they destroyed. Its unrecognizable, sadly. The food is very expensive, West Loop prices but suburban quality on Southport. The menu sounds appealing with so many things I wanted to try. Everything just fell short. Crab salada was solid, as was the Ebi Tom Yum. Gyozo are a huge miss. No foie is noticeable and its a bad port meatball version. Chef selection sashimi was quality and tasty fish. But the cuts were terrible they ruined the meal. The pieces were huge and unwieldly. Two biters that ruined the texture you want to get from sashimi. Ramen was ok but its all ginger. I could see this place being good if you ordered the right items, I did not.

"I'm loco for Itoko"Thank you for the wonderful dinner had last night. I'm already planning to go back for my birthday. The experience was easily one of the best I've had in Chicago. The service, the food, the decor, the cocktails, and the attention to detail was outstanding. For only being your seventh day in operations your staff ran it like you've been in the neighborhood for years. Chicago is so very lucky to have you. Dining experiences such as the one I had last night are a great reminder of what eating out should be like and can be like when so much love and thoughtfulness is poured into the work.
Be the first to ReplyOverall thought the food and service was excellent.
We started with the Jewel Baki which was amazing and had a number of different dishes. All I would get again except for the Wagyu Tataki, which tasted good but for us we didn't love.

8food: 4.4price: 3.2service: 4.7been patiently waiting for this to open after noticing bits and pieces of the decor for weeks. and it did not disappoint--the space is so very lovely. a pleasure to dine here.looking forward to trying other dishes, but what we had was very tasty. the price, however, is at Momotaro levels and not sure i'm seeing similar creative variation in the plates offered to warrant it. will likely come back for special occasions but will probably not be a common haunt for the price vs amount of food. but geez is the space lovely
