Classy Turkish food with well-made (but costly) flatbreads, hummus, and meats. Definitely more of a "celebrate occasion" spot. $20-50 a dish. 3.75/5 stars as a dinner spot.
Be the first to ReplyIt began poorly and just got worse.
First, try opening the overly heavy door - difficult to say the very least. Then the greeting was a bit sour - no smile or welcome just - "do you have a reservation."The noise level was over the top, and the prices were ridiculous. The worst, however, was the service - or I should say the lack of service. We enjoyed the tzakiki and carrots but the cauliflower was mushy and the meatballs were mediocre. Looking for a good Greek or Turkish meal - try Elea, Bodrum, or Nerai.

Came on valentine's day and took more than 30 minutes to be seated when we had a reservation (and there were other times avail on Resy). Service was very very slow but our waitress was very sweet and knowledgeable. Food was average at best. Ordered the octopus, moussaka (doesn't have any meat in it fyi), shrimp entree from spain (was ok), the gnocchi was tasty. Wouldn't really recommend or go back. Ambience was the best part even though it shares a space with an office lobby.

Came here as a party of 4 with everyone ordering from the restaurant week menu. General ambiance is pleasant and dining room is spacious. Service is prompt. Drinks menu is overpriced with a glass of wine at around $20. No bread for the table which is odd at best. Set of dips was priced at $45 (!?!?) Starters (flatbread and lamb meatballs) were definitely the highlight of the meal. Main courses however generally undelivered- with exception of fish course. Particularly disappointing was moussaka - although presented with much panache (covered in ouzo and set aflame table side), tomato sauce was very sour and hid a few pieces of overcooked eggplant and undercooked potatoes. Dessert- baklava was disappointing. It tasted quite similar to commercially sold versions served with a ball of cloyingly sweet ice cream. Overall, this restaurant is missing the food quality of a truly high end establishment (which it appears to strive towards) as well as the warmth, heartiness and generosity of a Mediterranean taverna.
Be the first to ReplyIris is pretty good in most respects.
The food is solid, and in some cases more than that. The appetizers and dessert outshone the entrees at our recent visit, but everything was pretty good. The squid appetizer in particular was excellent. To the extent that I have any complaints it has to do with price and structure. On price: the cocktails and wines by the glass are 25% more at Iris than other restaurants and in some cases even more than that. Wine is never a good deal at a restaurant, but it's a particularly bad deal here. In terms of structure, many of the entrees don't come with sides. If you order the duck, for example, you get the duck and nothing more. The menu lists a variety of side dishes available to share, but functionally it just means adding another expense to an already hefty bill. And honestly, if I go to a restaurant it's often because I want the chef to come up with a composed plate. If I wanted to compose it myself, I would probably have stayed home and cooked. Still, all in all it's a good meal even if it ends up costing more than it should.
Be the first to ReplyJust dined here for their Restaurant Week dinner.
It was fantastic. Husband & I shared grilled octopus & lamb meatballs. Dressing on octopus tasted like had candied citrus mixed in- so we'll balanced- prob best dressing I ever tasted. Both delicious. Entrees were roast chicken & branzino. Loved them also- pistachio topping on chicken was just so good.Really enjoyed the rice pudding & backlava for dessert ( although a tad too much honey for me)- thanks for the ice cream with it !Besides the food, ambience was very nice & staff just attentive enough. We definitely plan on going back.

My friend and I went to Iris for restaurant week and it was excellent. The vibes were on point. The food was great, especially the squash flatbread with crispy sage and feta! A little pricey but the restaurant week deal was a steal.

On our weekend visit to NYC we were looking for something a little different than our usual dining and we found it! I ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and got Lamb Meatballs, Branzino Fillet (sea bass) and Pistachio Baklava. The husband got Roasted Eggplant and Divers Scallops and Shrimp. It was all delightful. My sea bass was light yet delicious. The roasted eggplant spread was so good I wanted to roll around in it. The baklava was a little stiff but still yummy. We also had a couple of Greek beers, reasonably priced and very good. The acoustics are a little annoying- kind of loud - but also the place was packed. The wait staff was super attentive. We loved it!
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here post theatre.
Arrived early & had a glass of the Greek white at the bar from the HH list - delicious. They transferred our tab to our table which was cozy & comfortable. We were greeted warmly & experienced excellent & friendly service throughout the evening. Ordered from the RW dinner menu & enjoyed it tremendously: Greek salad was large with amazing tomatoes ( where did they get flavorful tomatoes in January?) & chunks of yummy feta. The flatbread was also delicious. We both had the branzino which was a little white on white in terms of presentation but moist & flavorful. The accompanying walnut/red pepper spread was excellent. On to dessert! Baklava, very good but the fig sorbet was disappointing in presentation & flavor. Only 2 "misses" were the Athens Spritz cocktail & fig sorbet. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Great place! The restaurant is very trendy, super clean. Love that the bathrooms are all singles. We decided to do the restaurant week menu for dinner. The lamb meatballs & grilled octopus were exceptional appetizers. I had the branzino fillet which was delicious. Fig sorbet for dessert hit the spot. Would definitely come back!

From the moment I walked into Iris to the moment I left, I felt extremely uncomfortable and judged. The service was not great and I did not feel welcomed at all which really killed the vibe. For a Mediterranean restaurant, there wasn't many Mediterranean options on the menu. Dishes were on the higher end and portions were in the smaller side. I ordered the branzino fillet and there was still a good amount of bones in my fillet which took away from the experience. The fillet was nice and crispy on top though. The sauce didn't go well with the branzino and the radish felt out of place. The carrot looking like veggie tasted like a potato and honestly the best part of the dish. The hanger steak was a little dry so was just ok. The gyros were basically just meat inside a pita bread. It lacked toppings and sauce (there were sauce in the sauce). I didn't try the lamb burger but it looked good. Side note: We had wanted tap water but got served with still water and then were switched to tap water again. Confused but we paid for the Acqua Panna anyways. Also, the staff touched my friend's purse and moved it farther away from her to the edge of the table without asking. She found that odd and preferred her purse to be closer to her. Overall, this was my worst dining experience in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyFood is a mixed bag.
My wife got a nice vegetarian moussaka. I got a hanger steak that was supposed to be medium rare, but was in part totally uncooked, tough, and besides, cold. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to see what I eat. That requires a minimum of light, which this place doesn't have. Finally, if I'm in the mood for loud music I go to a concert.

Food was amazing, however the portions were small definitely suggest ordering all three courses.
Be the first to ReplyStarted out strong and then.
... My friend and I were really enjoying the ambience, very attentive waiter, guidance on wine and food, initial bites, and then our server Nicholas disappeared and we were checked in on by a variety of people wanting to clear the table and help but without any direction. Food is good. Started as a 5, ended as a 1, 3 starts for Iris.

Portions are average not spectacular but food was pretty good. The Mediterranean Greek restaurant has a wonderful lounge vibe with a vibrant atmosphere and very welcoming staff. We ordered Restaurant week menu and all was fantastic except for the Yogurt Parfait dessert which was extremely tart. The lamb Flatbread was delicious along with the very soft steak and well seasoned branzino

My friends and I initially came here for their restaurant week special, but we learned that it's only on Tuesdays-Fridays. Nevertheless, we decided to try a few different items off their regular menu. We had the Roasted Eggplant mezze, which was my favorite. The dip was delicious, and the peppers were a nice add. We also had the Spiced Lamb flatbread and the Beef Tartare - both were good. I did feel that the flatbread dough was a bit dry, but the spices made it delicious. Lastly, we had the Quail Kebab - it was cooked juicy and seasoned very well. Portion sizes were small, but it was nice to try a few different dishes. I will have to come here again to try their restaurant week!

A gorgeous sumptuous space with lovely Aegean flavors leaning Greek.Ate: restaurant week lunch plus Greek red:FlukeBranzino Chocolate ganache( extra)The fluke was incredible, fresh and with red onion and radicchio. The branzino had a lovely Muhammara sauce. Dessert was delicious though I did miss a little pita bread bit served.

Fancy Greek resto with excellent, very attentive staff and great food. First, the hummus is just at a different level from other hummus we have had. The drinks were excellent and the ribs and branzino were good. I can't wait to be back.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible management/service.
I would be very surprised if this place lasted more than a few years. Good luck!
Be the first to ReplySo, the food here is very food, as are the cocktails.
That being said ... the service and general environment are rather unpleasant. It is a beautiful restaurant and that, coupled with the quality of the food, could make for a really cozy and memorable dining experience. Instead the host is exceptionally rude and unaccommodating (a member of our party had forgotten their ID to go with their vaccine card, and as they rushed back to our nearby hotel to get it, the host suggested he would give our table away, despite it being an entirely empty restaurant.) The service was very rushed and machine-like - they served us wine while we had just started our cocktails. The servers also rotated so there was no personal quality to the meal whatsoever. Had the service and environment been at all warm or gracious, this could have been a really memorable meal, a special place to which we would return. Instead, we had great food, but can't imagine returning.
Be the first to ReplyReviews of this place were over the top.
..so perhaps I expected too much. The wine list is ridiculously overpriced. When I ordered a reasonably-proced bottle, I was told that they were out of it (!!!!) Dishes were all quote good but, frankly, nothing special. The BIG TURN-OFF was when our waiter told us that they're closing tomorrow due to Covid cases in the kitchen. F________K me!
Be the first to ReplyIt's a good thing that the food was good and the restaurant
It's a good thing that the food was good and the restaurant was attractive, high-ceilinged, and airy--because everything else was bad. I got an email confirmation; and a few hours later, a cancellation. I called the restaurant twice but was ignored. So I started over with a new reservation. When I was served, the food came in the opposite order I expected, with the pita bread the last to arrive. (The room wasn't full, so that was no excuse.)
Be the first to ReplyDecor is beautiful.
They greeted us nicely, and were polite. They however really made us feel rushed through our meal. Asked WAY too frequently if they could clear the plates, sometimes while still mid bite. Disappointing as I took two friends here who were in town because it got such good reviews. The food... portions are SMALLMezze Mix: for what it is, EXTREMELY overpriced. A thimbles worth of hummus, 2 pitas, 3 olives, and a smallll amount of the other dips. The only dip they gave a good amount of was the eggplant dip. The dips all were pretty bland and unimpressive except the eggplant and the hummus. Greek Salad: more like just tomato and cucumber salad with 3 pieces of cheese and 2 olives. Barely any greens in there. Manti: Delicious! Moussaka: not even worth $15 let alone $32. Lacking flavor... and again for $32 they couldn't put a little rice or something?? Little absurdFries: deliciousConclusion: take your money elsewhere, lots of better restaurants at this price point and even below it. Flavors in the dishes lacking as well as the portions. I don't understand who gave this place 5 stars but maybe it's because we did a vegetarian mix
Be the first to ReplyHad a lovely lunch at the bar with a business
Had a lovely lunch at the bar with a business colleague/friend whose office is very close by. The food was excellent along with the wine and our server behind the bar, Carmen, was knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I would definitely come back again.I do have one negative comment, which is in no way trivial. Specifically, the piped in music is both distracting and inappropriate for it's upscale ambiance. My companion and I, while very happy dining at the bar, truly had no choice--- because 1. the choice of music was "off" and 2. the volume was too high. I strongly recommend that management consider a far more tasteful selection of music (classical, light jazz, bossa nova, etc.) and play it at a reasonable volume. The overall ambiance of a restaurant is a key factor in it's presentation and appeal. I sincerely hope that management implements this easy fix.
