Huncho House Hyattsville Reviews from The Last Year
We came here without a reservation yesterday evening after
We came here without a reservation yesterday evening after our original restaurant plans fell through. I was thrilled that Huncho House could accommodate us last minute (literally, we called and they told us to come in even though their reservation waitlist is usually at least a month!) as one of my friends flew into town for a visit. Our server, Ebony, was VERY sweet! She helped us make informed decisions about our food and drinks, checked in on us often, and really made our experience a good one! The restaurant, though surprisingly small, boasts beautiful decor that gives off cute jungle paradise vibes. The flower buds on the ceiling, gorilla light fixtures, and stunning wallpaper create a unique atmosphere. Even the seats are comfy and not your typical restaurant chairs. They played a lot of 00s R&B music, which I LOVED. My friends and I were definitely singing along during our meal! I chose the Blue Moon cocktail, which was pretty strong but also sweet. They definitely weren't stingy with the liquor, and the coconut taste complemented the drink beautifully--it looked gorgeous too! For appetizers, I ordered the chargrilled oysters, and they were DELICIOUS! Cooked perfectly, I immediately tore them DOWN! My friend ordered the lollipops, which she said were also delicious. Both dishes were perfect for sharing. For the entrée, I ordered the jerk short ribs with a side of crab mac. DELICIOUS, fall OFF the bone, finger-licking GOOD! You definitely won't regret this choice. I don't usually eat beef, but BABY, do IT! The taste was amazing, and the gravy was excellent. The crab mac side was more than enough to share--I barely made a dent in it. Literally, it was SO much to eat. So, so tasty. For dessert, I ordered the vanilla bread pudding. This was my least favorite option, as I like my bread pudding a bit softer, and this one was a bit stiffer. It was still tasty, just not as buttery as I'm used to. Overall, Huncho House provided a fantastic dining experience, from the accommodating last-minute reservation to the incredible service, delicious food, and lovely ambiance. Definitely give it a try if you're in the area!
I'm giving three stars for the ambiance and the appetizers!
I'm giving three stars for the ambiance and the appetizers! We were there to celebrate my engagement and left really disappointed (our server was amazing though!) I've always wanted to try this place out and as a person who loves food, the entrees were really underwhelming.!! I will start by saying the lobster mash potatoes and the oysters were sooo flavorful! However, I wouldn't recommend the short rib, AT ALL. It was so dry and lacked flavor, even in sauce. I sent it back and got the Bronzino which also wasn't good. It was way too much arugula on top and needed sauce to bring it together. I order the s'more old fashion and it took 45 minutes for it to come. I would of rather had the original. When it came it was watered down because the ice cube had melted to half of its original size. My friend had the filet mignon and asked for it medium and it came back well done. So we had to wait another 30 minutes for her meal to be cooked again. As great as our waiter was, the manager was micromanaging our waiter and was ruining our experience even more. We had watched the manger have an attitude with our waitress when she was doing an amazing job. When the manger came over, she went behind our waitress to fix things that weren't an issue and made the already unsettling situation, worse. We were not compensated for any of our terrible experience. All and all, we left disappointed and a ruined celebration.

This place only gets 2 stars because we are huge fans of Chef Tobias. The food is extremely average. The Ambiance is on par with a local average carry out. Very very tight - not comfortable. The service was pretty good. We ordered: Crab Mashed Potatoes- Average. Taste like instant mashed potatoes with crab topping. I'm guessing it was $18 because of the crab. They are getting over on that. Cheesesteak Egg-roll - Average to below average. Tasteless - not very enjoyable. Salmon and Crab fried rice - the salmon is really good. This dish was good, but not worth the money Spicy Crab Noodles - Not good at all Honcho Salad - Not good. Spicy and way too much dressing. All in all, we probably won't be back because it's also not in the best neighborhood. I wouldn't have felt comfortable without my firearm.
The first phrase that came out my mouth when I entered
The first phrase that came out my mouth when I entered Huncho House was "this is such a cute place!" Huncho House gives date night vibes. It is nicely decorated with limited spacing, naturally creating a very intimate setting. When we arrived we were greeted by the hostess, who confirmed our reservation and then offered us their complimentary champagne. Upon seating us, we were welcomed and greeted by three waiters that were very attentive to our table. For our appetizer, we ordered the Wagyu cheesesteak eggrolls, which were flavorful, however, the eggrolls were lacking a crispiness and the additional gusto that we needed to be amazed by this dish. For our entree, we had the jerk short ribs with the crab Mac and cheese as a side, which were both sizable proportions. The short ribs didn't necessarily give jerk to me, however, it was still an enjoyable dish. The risotto rice that came with the short ribs was uniquely flavored that I feel required an acquired taste. The crab Mac and cheese was very palatable. My fork just kept gravating to that cheesy goodness. Overall, we appreciated the robust customer service and thoroughly appreciated the experience here. As it relates to parking, there was street parking available along with a parking garage.

I came to visit a couple of friends in the DMV area and found this place highly recommended on TikTok so we had to give it a try! We made reservations online a couple of days in advance and had to settle for a later time because it was almost booked up (so book in advance!). We found parking on the street but I believe there may have been a parking garage as well. When we came in, we were greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne (which was tasty!) and taken to our seats. The establishment itself is a bit small so I'm not sure if it's ideal for large groups or more than about 6-8 people. We were also pretty close to the table next to us. We had a couple of waiters with our main one being Anaya and they were all great! Everyone was pretty knowledgeable, gave recommendations, checked on us frequently and had great customer service , which I greatly appreciate! For our meal, we started with the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. They were good, however I expected it to be more "solid" (not sure the right word to use). It was pretty saucy and kind of runny so it didn't quite give egg roll to me and it could've been a little more crispy but it was still good. For our entree we did the short ribs and a side of the seafood Mac. Both were excellent to me! The ribs were tender and fell off the bone and the risotto that it sat on top of was delicious! Very well seasoned! The Mac and cheese was just how I like it, creamy, cheesy, well baked and well seasoned. I would definitely come back to try more items on the menu!
We finally made it- overall good experience! Service- Gigi
We finally made it- overall good experience! Service- Gigi was awesome, she is making them money because she makes everything sound amazing and knows how to up sell . You hear me! The ambiance gives grown and sexy! The space is small and intimate. Best suited for a date night, or small intimated celebration The food was delicious!! Due to Gigi making everything sound delicious, we had quite a few appetizers- the waygu eggrolls, deviled eggs, a sushi roll( can't remember the name) and oysters. My personal favorite were the eggrolls and deviled eggs. I had the on top of a bed of risotto, I found the risotto to be flavorless and a bit runny, rather than a thicker creamy consistency. The scallops were perfectly cooked though. Our drinks took near 30 minutes to come out, so seems like they need some support in that area. We love supporting black business-- be prepared to spend, especially since you'll need to try a few dishes to get the full Huncho experience!

Chef Mel and the team hosted a well curated chefs table show. It was nice to see the action. Menu jumped around but we were able to stay the course.

I was torn about writing a review, because I didn't want to spread the word and risk not being able to get a table in the future. A friend referred us and we joked that it wouldn't be good. Well, he's in our "Foodie Circle of Trust" now!! . Huncho House is phenomenal on all fronts! Ambience, Service, Food & Drinks, and Portions. The elegant vibe is set immediately upon crossing the threshold - complimentary glass of champagne. It's an intimate dining room setting, yet you have your privacy. The staff was personable, ultra attentive and patient (as this was our first visit). My drink (something Gem) was perfectly mixed and balanced. We chose the deviled eggs and the the crispy shrimp apptz - both were amazing! Entrees were Spicy Lobster Pasta and the Hawaiian Steak - again home runs! But, the Hawaiian Steak was ! I added the Smoked Hawaiian butter as a finish. And got the Crab Oscar topping on the side. The side of Lobster Mashed Potatoes were delicious. And to wrap it up we had one of each of their dessert options - Bananas Foster Cheesecake and Bread Pudding. Wgg he at a perfect finish to a wonderful evening! We will definitely visit again.

The wait to get a reservation to this place is ridiculous
The wait to get a reservation to this place is ridiculous so I was excited to see if it lived up to the hype. For me, it didn't. If I was only rating ambiance and customer service I would've given 5 stars. We were promptly greeted with smiles as soon as we entered. A bar is to the left but you can't sit there for drinks. By the bar is an area with high tops, straight forward is the dining room and there are 4 place setting that look directly into the kitchen. The dining room is tight so be prepared for whoever is at the table beside you to be able to be all up in your conversation. There were 2 tables I noticed by the window that weren't as close together as the rest so you could try to get sat there for a bit more privacy. The food was a solid 3 in my opinion. We started with the Waygu cheesesteak eggrolls. They were good but salty. My husband got the jerk short ribs and I got the Hawaiian Ribeye. The sides are a la carte and family style so we got mashed potatoes. Both of our main entrees had decent flavor but both were also very salty. The drinks are overpriced, even for the DMV. We paid $44 for 2 rum punches! They add a 20% service charge to each check but at least it includes gratuity (there are restaurants in DC charging 20% service charges AND 20% gratuity) It was nice being at an upscale Black establishment that's in a Black community so money and jobs are going back into the community but I'm not sure if I'd be inclined to wait another 2 months to get a reservation to give it another try.

When visiting Huncho House I would recommend making a reservation and ensure that you are punctual as you only have 90 minutes for your experience. Parking can also be tricky as their are limited spots on the street. There is a public parking lot around the corner but to get to the entrance you need to circle the plaza. Upon arrival you are greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne and we were quickly escorted to our table. We enjoyed some cocktails and mocktails. All three were flavorful and well-balanced. To start we had the deviled eggs and charbroiled oysters which was the best part of the meal. Both were complex and the flavors all paired well together. I could eat those two for my entree alone. Next we split the scallops, lamb chops and braised short ribs. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. The short ribs were delicious but I didnt really taste the jerk flavor. The scallops were hearty and the risotto was well seasoned. Our waitress was amazing! She was extremely attentive and provided great recommendations. As far as pricing this was not an inexpensive experience. Expect to spend at least $100 per person. More if you plan to order multiple drinks and dessert. A few pieces of feedback our table was a little small. There was not enough room for our appetizers and it was hard to maneuver items around the table.
Man, I so wanted this to be better.
It came down to the service. Our waitress was absolutely terrible. Completely inattentive, forgot my drink order (man bussing tables had to it me in one minute after waiting 40), brought out dishes to this tiny table and wouldn't bus dirty dishes, rolled her eyes when we asked TWICE for additional small plates, and literally slammed our dessert down without a word and huffed away. LUCKILY, the lovely hostess and man bussing the tables rectified her rudeness by being extremely kind. For example, we asked for our leftover pasta to be boxed up. Waitress said: I'll bring you containers. Next minute, lovely hostess comes over and says: Can I box this for you? Waitress seemed annoyed that she had done that. Astonished when she did her spiel about adding additional tip on top of the 20% automatically charged--like really? Food--everything is HUGE and as others have mentioned, very salty. Sushi was ok--6/10 rainbow roll. Spicy Asian shrimp app was ok--it tasted very bbq-y and just a little bit of the gogujang came through 5/10. Lobster rigatoni was delish! 8/10. Bananas foster cheesecake, holy moly 10/10. Got to meet the chef which was very cool, but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon mainly because of the horrible service.

My rating is mainly for service and freshness of food.
I Had a 9pm reservation here last night and were seated immediately. They offer complimentary champagne at the front if you're interested. The inside is small but well lit and just the right amount of seating. My date and I started with drinks. The lavender lemon drop was amazing, I can't remember what my date had but he enjoyed it. We ordered: Deviled eggs - topped with shrimp and bacon jam, as someone that is not fond of DE these were amazing. The jam was flavorful and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. Hawaiian ribeye - was cooked well but a bit salty, was served with a side of asparagus but nothing to write home about. Chicken Marsala - this was beautifully plated but flavorless. I didn't have it in me to send it back because it was cooked well but all components just lacked salt. Our waitress was Belinda and she was very attentive. All workers stopped by our table at least once to check in and that I appreciated.

Huncho house is easily our new favorite restaurant in the DMV. We've been many times and the menu never gets old! My husband orders the salmon and fried rice every. Single. Time. I've tried the chicken Marsala, short rib, crab cake, lamb chops, garlic noodles, and the salmon fried rice. It's so hard to pick a favorite because nothing disappoints! Oh, and the wagyu egg rolls, order two! my favorite seat is near the kitchen - the team is so precise and thoughtful when plating. 10/10 always. The only downside is that it is sometimes difficult to get a reservation.
Ambiance, drinks and service were top notch.
Parking is in a garage down the street. Food was fine. Lobster pasta was by far the best. Branzino, was also tasty. Salmon w/ crab fried rice and egg rolls were ok. The staff is amazing and made the visit really nice. Seating for parties of 3 are at high tables not low tables. We made a reservation for 2/29 (a month in advance) to close out BHM, and had a good time.

OK dolls, here is one of my favorite dining experiences of my entire time in the DMV. @HunchoHouseMD took the cake. Another black owned gem! Parking is tough but just get there its worth it! The service is impeccable. The complimentary champagne greeting was very cute. We were seated quickly and they communicated the 90 minute seating window. It was more than enough time because food and drinks come promptly. We really could not get over how friendly the staff were and Devin, our server, had the best drink recommendations for the girlies. I liked the champagne so I got another glass. We filled up on these lovely appetizers and took our main meals home. We will need a bigger table next time to accommodate all our food . *Only get a high top round if your only seating two if you can help it.* 10/10 on everything! I will definitely be back!!!
This is hands down the best restaurant food I have had in
This is hands down the best restaurant food I have had in ages. We were warmly greeted by a host who offered complimentary champagne. Once we we seated, our server asked if it was our first visit (it was) and if we were celebrating a special occasion (we were). She gave excellent information about the menu dishes and told us Chef Dorzon's story. The food was excellent! Our favorite dishes were the crab rice and salmon, the spicy lobster rigatoni and the crab fettuccini. the Brussel sprouts were amazing. For dessert, we enjoyed the bread pudding. There were six of us and we couldn't finish one serving. We all had to go boxes, the portions are huge. I would highly recommend this restaurant, although you need to make a reservation pretty far in advance.
Went for dinner on a Saturday night.
Food was ok but the drinks and service were great! Restaurant is small and tight.
This is the best restaurant out here.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and he has not stopped talking about the lamb chops since then. It's been 2 months. The service is good and they gave complimentary champagne! Def a good vibe and the lavender lemon drops were so good. 100% go eat here!!
A Hearty Southern Lunch!
I am a true southerner from South Carolina, where southern food is divine, therefore I'm a little critical. We had 13 in our group for a weekday lunch. It was not crowded at all around 12:30. The positive is that service was wonderful, in that the waitstaff was quite efficient, and served with a smile. The manager even came around to check in with everyone, and gave our group a sweet potato pie gratis to share, which was quite nice of him. The food came out without a long wait, and the portion served was quite hearty. Only thing the food was just average, not bad, but not that great either. The fried whiting tasted as if it was cooked maybe an hour or two ahead of time and sat for awhile under a headlamp to keep warm, not tasted as if just fried. It was fresh but rather limp, bland, not seasoned. Had to add quite a bit of hot sauce to make it palatable. Collard greens were quite greasy and much too salty. The mac and cheese is tasty, however, the pasta was cooked too much before baking with the cheese, so it is a little soggy. The black eyed peas were delicious. Coleslaw is tasty, however, much too sweet, like dessert. Cornbread muffins were nice and hot, served with loads of cinnamon honey butter, tasted like typical Jiffy cornbread, and tasty if you like that type of sweet cornbread. Sweet potato pie was mediocre, not bad, however, could use a better homemade recipe, tasted like grocery store pie in the freezer section. I would try dining again, being I like to support establishments that are minority owned. Perhaps having some other options, to see if the food improves based on what is ordered. Make sure to get your parking ticket stamped for free 2 hours.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
