Horses Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year
A wonderful, scenic experience
We had such a great time! The views were spectacular, and there were so many awesome photo ops! Our guides were Megan and Benito, and they were both really kind and engaged. The horses were sweet, and well-behaved, and you could tell they are humanely treated. A great experience overall!
We had such a great time here! We were visiting family in
We had such a great time here! We were visiting family in So Cal and wanted to have a great meal together. We had reservations and were seated right away. Even on a midweek night on 12/29/2023, the restaurant was packed! Beautiful ambiance inside. Great place for a a dinner for adults, I did not see a single child. It's dark inside, perfect for date nights! Stephen was our server and he was on top of everything! We ordered some cocktails and wine, the drinks were served at the perfectly chilled temperature. Between four adults, we shared to appetizers and for entrées. We loved the sashimi amberjack, sliced super thin and served with lemon juice and Chinese chili crisp (hot sauce). The Caesar salad was made with endive leaves and crushed croutons (or were they crispy pancake crumbs?). The salad dressing was perfectly balanced with anchovies and cheese, one of the best Caesar salad dressings I've had in a long time. Bass was also very delicious, served on cannellini beans that were perfectly cooked. The mushroom pizzette was delicious! I was surprised that we ordered this at a nicer restaurant, but very glad we did. I'm still remembering about this pizzette three months later. Someone at the table, ordered the Cornish game hen, which I'm not a huge fan of. It was just OK. But don't take my word for it since that's not something I ever order. The pasta dish for me was kind of a bust too. The top was too dried and crispy. Just a heads up that there is a restaurant via 5% percent added to your tab. This is separate from the gratuity. Huge thanks to Stephen for making it a very fun night.
Fantastic ride!
Absolutely loved the ride and the views! It was fun getting to experience all the horses and their different personalities. Great for beginners or advanced riders
Amazing experience - would definitely recommend!
Absolutely loved this! Would definitely recommend - the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and are able to accommodate for beginners. The hack is so relaxing with gorgeous views and the horses are beautiful!
$3.35 for "restaurant fee'. Mind telling me what this
$3.35 for "restaurant fee'. Mind telling me what this charge is for? If it's for placing my butt on your chair then I hope this place goes out of business soon. Also don't tell me how much I should tip, I'll decide how much I will tip my waitress, or better yet how about you the owner pay your employees 25% more so they don't have to humiliate so much to me because I'm literally paying them their hourly wages for you?
Okay the off menu pasta was incredible.
Also loved the horse butter.... However the ambiance of the restaurant was a bit chaotic, and seating was crowded. Not a big fan of the decor. The service was decent and our server was helpful in recommending dishes.
Favorites are the Burger, Smoked Salmon Lavash, Cornish
Favorites are the Burger, Smoked Salmon Lavash, Cornish Game Hen and the off menu pasta. Service is 10/10, people watching is 11/10. Have a martini and draw something weird & beautiful on the paper tablecloth
I've wanted to visit this place for a quite long time.
I finally went there last week and I loved it! I'm so glad that I was able to sit at the patio area where it was much quieter than inside and felt like I am having a nice dinner at a pretty garden. The food was also good I really liked their steak and tuna tartar. The off menu pasta was also good but was little salty to me.
Horses has changed.
While their food is still delicious (best burger in town) and their atmosphere is the right blend of casual bistro meets fine dining, the difficult cancellation process, lack of phone/communication and unbearably rude maître d make it an easy pass. Try the food, if you're really craving it, it won't disappoint , but not worth the special trip it once was.
Not Worth It - Rude Front Office Manager
Front Office Manager was very rude and unprofessional. Horses seem to be in bad shape, dirty, tired and missing shoes. Guide was good.
The ambience was great.
I went there on Saturday night. They managed the table nicely, and there was distance between our table and others, so it didn't feel too tight. Their "Off Menu Pasta" is a must. I can't stop thinking about it. So good! It has a creamy taste and is a bit spicy, which I really like. Not greasy at all. Thanks to our server, who recommended us to try this. The Burger came with lotssss of fries. Also excellent. Also, we had "Smoked Salmon Lavash with Cress". It was okay. Definitely will come back to try others dishes and that Pasta.
The ambiance was amazing for a date night, but possibly too
The ambiance was amazing for a date night, but possibly too dark. The bar and kitchen/dining room was seperate but wish I got a better look at the bar (tucked away inside). The walled mirror and the horses painting in the ceiling were super cute. The wine list was a bit too expensive, so we opted for two cocktails. They weren't bad, but not amazing. The food - we got the Horses Caesar and of course the 'Off Menu' Spicy Rigatoni. Caesar salad was super crispy and fresh, however wish they had cut down a bit on the dressing. But still very delicious. The Spicy Rigatoni was amazing, perfectly spicy for my taste (it is surprisingly spicy!) and the pasta texture was perfect. But checking other tables, it seemed like ours was comparably a bit more burnt. I didn't hate ours, but the outer rim was pretty black and did taste as so. Still really good - would want to try it out again without the burn.. Parking is always troubling - we were lucky to be out on a weekday and was able to find metered parking right away. But on a weekend, probably need to valet. Overall experience was nice!
Got some reservations for 2 week of for a Friday night.
No seating inside. So the patio it was. The patio is off to the right of the restaurant with some heaters. The temperature was cold but we didnt need a heater. The staff was super friendly and nice. That includes hostess, table and waiters. The patio its self is done nicely. Intimate. Tables are close but not to infringe on privacy. We waited in the bar and grabbed a mezcal margarita. It was delicious and well balanced. We got to our table about 10 minutes after arrival. Scanning the menu we decided on the bread n butter, caesar salad, crudo and tartare for apps. Bread n butter was nice. Not heavenly but definitely worth it. Bread is sourdough along with housemade butter. Caesar was good and a hefty portion. All endive blades had dressing that wasnt overpowering. The crudo was mid to be honest. Lots of citrus which stood out the most which took over from the shallots and any other dressing. The tartare was my personal favorite. As soon as we sat the waiter let us know there was one more order left and I wanted it. Itself was very light. And packed good flavor. It really reminded me of a hamburger that was dressed up. Good onion and garlic coming through. it was accompanied with a light tossed salad. Everything went well. Off the menu pasta was really good. Good amount of heat. Crisp from the oven bake. No need for cheese as you can taste it within the sauce. Very good and large portion. Good delicious tomato base too. Mortadella pea tortellini. Very light, peppery and the peas came through. Its a play off a familiar ppp pasta. Prosciutto, peas, parmesan or pecorino. It was light n not overly creamy. You would think it would have been rich but it was not. Sheeps milk cheesecake with poached bordeaux pear. Delicious. Light. The pear was so much yum. Tartare, Off the menu pasta and sheeps milk cheesecake.
Great way to view L A. and surrounding areas including the "Hollywood" sign via horseback!
Great tour up into the mountains by an experienced guide and wonderful horses! Beautiful scenery of L.A. and the surrounding areas from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean. Trip was great for all ages and abilities! Would highly recommend!
My wife and I liked Horses perfectly fine but we weren't
My wife and I liked Horses perfectly fine but we weren't blown away by Horses. Not so much where we feel a second visit is warranted.
Relaxing ride along the Mulholland Trail
It was a wonderful experience, horses were super calm and Cassandra was lovely as a guide. We were delighted to know that the horses were well trained and so calm.
Awesome Views
Great Trail and great views....It was nice and peaceful and you can get attached to the horses quickly...Our guide Madison made sure we were in great hands...
Very expensive for what you get
Views were great but the overall experience wasn’t as good as it could be. I’m never going to like to receive a confirmation email prior to an activity for which I’ve already paid a lot which reminds me ‘not to forget cash for the tip’. Okay so I’m British and our view to tipping is different than the US but even so this annoyed me from the outset. Then, as you’re choosing a helmet, 2 large signs ‘suggesting’ the amount you should tip! This was not a cheap activity and I did not think the guide did anything to justify any type of tip at all! They spoke to no-one the entire 2 hours other than to briefly take everyone’s phone and take a few photos. No information about the view and they even carried bottles of water with them in the saddle bag and didn’t once offer one to anyone. They also asked if we like to add a bit to the ride and do an extra route which would mean we would arrive back 5-10 minutes later than schedule …. We arrived back 10 minutes early! The views were great and the horses were super and looked well taken care of but the whole vibe was of a business that had done this excursion so many times, it was no longer interesting or fun. I also thought that 90 minutes would have been better than 2 hours as by the end I was a little bit bored.
Great experience!!!
Amazing experience! and amazing service from Benito our guide. Highly recommend Don’t forget to bring some cash for your guide, they deserve it.
