High Five Ramen Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Cozy ramen spot for a chilly Chicago evening! We arrived
Cozy ramen spot for a chilly Chicago evening! We arrived Saturday evening at around 5pm. Be prepared to wait 2-2.5 hours, but once you are seated, you will be treated with casual yet courteous service! There are only 4 ramen bowls to choose from, and only one option for vegetarian/vegan folks. I ordered the Mushroom Maitake bowl with Full spice (very spicy but really hits on a chilly day). In addition, the coconut drink tastes like a refreshing Piña colada! I highly recommend this place, but definitely make sure to plan to wait a few hours especially on a Saturday evening. It'll be well worth the wait!
The ramen (the intense version) is too overpowering.
But I like the ambience. It's at the ground floor of a beer and BBQ garden so you can order a drink while waiting and bring it with you when you dine.
High Five is definitely my favorite Ramen spot in Chicago!
High Five is definitely my favorite Ramen spot in Chicago! I usually order the Maitake Ramen without seasoned egg with half spice level. The taste is SO good, not even hyping up! The broth is made of mushroom, and it's delicious! My boyfriend got the Shio ramen without pork belly and he liked his Ramen as well. The only meat they have is pork belly, no chicken/ beef. I also ordered a snow maiden Sake along with my Ramen and the combination was perfect! Be careful of what spice level you choose, they definitely aren't joking when they say that their spice levels are feisty! This Ramen spot has very limited seats (not more than 10-12) They do not take reservations and usually wait time is a lot (at least over an hour over the weekends) My boyfriend and I usually write down our names and explore West Loop area in the meantime. The ambiance is a bit rusty and gives a typical speakeasy vibe. Our server during most of my visits was Shayan and she is pretty cool. I love her sassy and witty comments! I recommend this Ramen spot 11/10. It's simply the best!
We tried this cozy ramen spot end of December last year.
I been wanting to try this place because the idea is very similar to Ichiran ramen we had in New York. The place offers cute and intimate dinning experience. We were told an hour wait time since they have very few seating options, but we were seated within 15 mins. The ramen was decent. I'd give it a 3/5 compared to other ramen I've tried in the city. Left one is Maitake ramen with 1/2 spiced. It was very very spicy. It would have tasted better if the broth wasn't so oily. Right one is Shoyu ramen without pork belly with 1/4 spicy. It wasn't spicy enough so I asked for extra spicy on the side.
OMG...this place was mouthwatering delicious... Ordered
OMG...this place was mouthwatering delicious... Ordered the tonkotsu ramen...which also is mixed in with miso. Did 1/4 spicy and I like spicy...could have added a tad more. It was BOMB. Original. Unique flavors. The pork belly literally melted in your mouth. We waited an hour or so...worth it . We got drink and 1 sushi roll across the street at Dokku.
I came here on a recommendation.
I would suggest for a small party to go ahead and get your name down with the hostess, bar hop around and come immediately once you receive a text. It took about 1.5 hours for us to have a table, we were quoted for a 3-4 hour wait. Once you receive the text, you get only 10 minutes to arrive and check in. The menu is quite simple, as our server explained. She also mentioned that for such a small and high demanding restaurant (16 seats) there's a mandatory one-bowl per customer rule. So if you were bar hopping like me, plan to eat lightly. We were seated at the back bar, I like how they have water pitchers, silverware and napkins set every few seats. Our ramen came with 20 minutes. I got a shoyu ramen, 1/4 spice. I liked the broth it was rich, had a deep soy flavor. I liked the soy egg and the noodles were tender. Charsui pork isn't my favorite protein. I usually like to have it substituted with chicken but they didn't have that option here. All in all, it's alright. I was too full to truly enjoy it. When our bill arrived, they gave us a hot towels and some tasty hokkaido milk candy, it was a nice touch.
Best ramen in Chicago, wait time could be up to 2 hours but
Best ramen in Chicago, wait time could be up to 2 hours but it is worth it. Broth is reach and delicious. It is very tiny place with intimate bar casual atmosphere right next to Randolf street.
I hate this place their hostess sucks the waits are too
I hate this place their hostess sucks the waits are too long and the girl keeps a attitude.
Not so low key spot anymore.
Service is fast but it's a waitlist. best to go with only at most 3 people or kill some time by drinking somewhere close by. The ramen itself is interesting. I opted to get 1/4 spice and I think that's enough spice level to enjoy it while not dying from the meal. I remember getting 1/2 spice and I was sweating and crying lol. I like the meat portion and they serve a whole egg vs half an egg typically seen in other ramen shops. However the broth is more on the heavier side and I'm more of a clearer broth kind of guy. To each their own!
They have a small selection however the ramen is delicious!
They have a small selection however the ramen is delicious! The atmosphere is fresh and new for the city with an underground feel. The location is really small and you may have a bit of a wait, which is a great time to have drinks next door.
Top Ramen joint in Chicago
Top broth and incredible flavor. Tender meat and fresh veggies. Hard to get into this little join but come early, write your name down, go have a drink, they will text you and give you 10 min to get there - super cool

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
