Very cozy food, feels very homemade.
Highly recommend adding the onsen-tamago to your rice dish! Very good portions, mine was a small and I felt very comfortably full.
Be the first to ReplyFOOD & DRINKSGyudon is a very typical meal in Japan.
I saw it on the menu and had to try it out.The beef was kinda dry because it was mostly if not entirely lean. Perfect if you already count your calories but because of that reason you lose on flavor. I highly recommend to get the onsen egg with the bowl of beef over rice. Mix everything nicely together and the egg yolk will provide the necessary fat content to counter the dryness. Other than that the taste was good. Not mind blowingly good but a decent home cooked meal which in all fairness is what they are trying to do.SERVICEStaff was nice and friendly. Standard Japanese service which is a good thing.ATMOSPHERENice restaurant. Simple, a bit dark yet warm.RATINGFour stars because even though they do Japanese home cook meals I think even in that specific area the flavors can be approved.
Be the first to ReplyI was a regular at Heno Heno for about a year.
Today I was asking for 1 GLASS OF WATER. The waitress would not serve me tap water, cause it wasn't on the menu.Seriously? A standard in most of the world to serve water up front & a regular like me would not get a glass of tap water? I would even have paid for it. But the downright answer, that's not possible? OMG. I didn't argue with the waitress. Instead I find it very embarrassing & provincial. Especially after living in the U.S. for 24 years & working as a trained Butler in California. I gave generous tip today as my last act of generosity. Unfortunately, I can't come back. Good Bye Heno Heno !!!

The soba noodle soup was not warm enough and overall the taste of everything was ok. Skip the noodles and order the rice dishes - they are more tasty. I'd rate the soba noodles 2 stars, the appetizers 3 stars and the rice dishes 4 stars. The owners are Japanese and very friendly!
Be the first to ReplyI really wanted to love this place.
The vibe was cozy and welcoming. The staff was friendly. It felt authentically Japanese. While I enjoyed the onigiri, the udon was disappointing as the noodles were not the thick chewy udon noodles I expected, but rather typical Chinese noodles I easily make at home. The gyu don was good, but the meat a little chewy. The prices were very reasonable, and I could be back for the gyu don if I lived closer, but wouldn't go out of way to come here if you're not nearby.
Be the first to ReplyVery good authentic food.
They have English menu as well. I love the gyu don (Japanese thinly sliced beef bowl). The curry and rice is also amazing. Nothing can go wrong here, and I ready miss this place!!!
Be the first to ReplyGood enough for a quick healthy lunch.
I ordered the veggie Don. I was just disappointed that it was cold. Next time I'd try something else. Service is slow and no one in there smiles. Wish the staff was friendlier.
Be the first to ReplyA little bit of a hidden gem in the heart of Charlottenburg.
Simple but nice interior and a small menu. Many vegetarian options! Went for an umeboshi onigiri (1,90โฌ they also had seaweed, salmon and ginger-meat) and a small vegetarian don. The onigiri was not so much my taste but I was just curious about the umeboshi flavor. But it was handmade and I'm sure that people who enjoy this particular flavor will love it. All the dishes can be ordered in different sizes and I asked beforehand where's the difference between small and medium and they showed me the two bowls and honestly they looked pretty much the same so I went for the small one. What i got was rice with egg (which was cold sadly) and topped with seaweed which was seasoned really well! There was also some kind of ground almond meal on top? All in all it was tasty but the flavor was really intense so i probably wouldn't have been able to finish a big-sized bowl. For two mains, two onigiris and two drinks we paid 21โฌ! Really affordable!
