Very good, genuine atmosphere, good value for money
Friendly and professional staff, without the artificial behaviour often seen in NYC. Very complete menu of sushi and more. Itโs good and served with efficiency. Good value for money.

Popped in during a shopping stroll on 5th avenue as a friend told me to try. Dined on the ground floor and loved the โbox of dreamsโ a box with 9 different sashimi that was absolutely great. First floor is spacious and could be nice to sit at the bar though I really felt I was back in Japan for a minute

Authentic Japanese place in Manhattan. You have the feeling of being in Japan. Excellent quality fish. Very kind waitress! Recommended for those who love real Asian cuisine.

We went without a reservation and lucked out. We were honored to have Nahem as our server. He was actually more than that. We trusted him to put together an array of sushi that was beyond what we expected. Best sushi we have had in a long time.
Be the first to ReplyOur favorite Japanese restaurant in the world.
We visit NY twice a year and we always dine at Hatsuhana - usually the first night since we canโt wait to get there. We travel extensively and we often seek out local Japanese restaurants as it is one of our favorite cuisines. Hatsuhana is one of out top five restaurants in the world. It offers great food, service and ambience. I always feel that the fish Iโm dining in was swimming that morning. You just canโt miss here.

Great place to eat Japanese food. Very kind staff. Kudos to the waiter from Pakistan, he was a great host. Great food and pleasant atmosphere. A table must be reserved in advance.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent suhi in midtown
Excellent traditional sushi restaurant in Midtown. Has been around for decades and still going strong. Always crowded. They do a large lunch business. Traditional style sushi and rolls. All very fresh, very good quality. They do a very good take out job, all the sushi is nicely packed in attractive boxes. Great option in midtown.

Excellent quality food We went for lunch for a break from shopping and although the entrance is discreet the food is exceptional
Be the first to ReplyExceptionally good food, clear recommendation
Japanese restaurant with Japanese staff. Since it was almost impossible to get a table for lunch without a reservation, we made a reservation for the next day. We tried the Box of Fantasies and the Gozen and didn't regret it. The food and the quality of the fish were exceptionally good. The tuna was tender as butter, everything was freshly made. The rice was as it should be in a Japanese restaurant. The service was very friendly and the tap water was drinkable, didn't taste at all of chlorine, as is usual. The prices are fair for Manhattan in my opinion. We've eaten much worse for the same money.

Be the first to ReplyAnother 5-star meal.
I last visited Hatsuhana for dinner pre-pandemic and was eager to see if this NYC institution had kept up with the high bar it set last time. I was not disappointed. We made a reservation for 2 and when we showed up 10 minutes before our scheduled time, it was already busy in the downstairs reception area. There were a couple waiting for takeout, and several walkins without reservations. Itโs always a great sign when a restaurant is busy. We were seated upstairs in a corner for 2, and our server, Chris, did a great job keeping all the tables in our area happy. Fish - top notch, including the O-toro sashimi. Rolls were fresh and well constructed. The black cod to die for. Thanks again for another wonderful meal! Will be back again next time weโre in NYC.
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi for a great price!
I was visiting my sibling in NYC and we wanted great sushi that did not break the bank. We found it here! We split a couple of different entrees and had more than enough food for a fair price. I highly recommend the bento boxes with a different sushi piece to try in each box. It was so unique and delicious. The ambience is cozy and the customer service was friendly.
Be the first to ReplyGood sushi, serviceโฆ..
Very good sushi, service nothing extraordinary and rude at the end. Tips are not an obligation, and the servers have to earn them by providing an adequate quality of service, server tried to confront and tell us how much server should be tipped, apparently not enough she got (which is unacceptable), wonโt come back.
Be the first to ReplyFirst-rate sushi restaurant
First rate food and service. Each of their dishes was prepared with expertise and care. The service was friendly and efficient. The organization of the menu made ordering easy, whether youโre a sushi aficionado or a beginner, and the wait staff was readily available for any questions. Total price for our dinner was reasonable for the high quality of the fare and overall experience.

Came in here at 7p and it was busy here. Itโs a pretty big restaurant. The first floor goes pretty deep and they have 2nd floor where the sushi bar is located. The lighting and decor is perfect. Itโs if it was frozen in time in NYC circa mid 1970s! I love it. Both floors and bar were packed. And for good reason, food here is quite tasty and cheap. 18 piece Omakase under $200. Really good deal tho donโt expect Toro or other expensive ingredients but they did serve Uni. The only thing that needs improvement is the service but they are quite busy and probably under staffed. Bar is fully staffed with four sushi chefs. This is a very pretty restaurant that probably hasnโt changed since 1976 so a nice piece of NYC history.
Be the first to ReplyGood sushi, but worst service!
really good quality sushi and great flavor. but the price and dinner don't reflect the service I had. completely poor, since after having eaten our dishes and having removed the dishes, they presented us the bill without having asked for it! with a lot of rudeness, without even asking if we wanted anything else. and finally when I tried to tell the waiters, making me understand as much as possible because I don't have good English, they pretended not to understand. there is better in new york!
Be the first to ReplyA superb dinner
We dined here last night and had a wonderful dinner. This is our favorite in N.Y. City and it never disappoints. I had the salmon carpaccio and the Sashimi deluxe. It was perfect. One would think that the fish were swimming that morning. It was incredibly fresh. Both plates were very attractive. My wife opted for several starters - the tempura, the seaweed salad and a roll. She was as pleased as I was. Our server, a lady name Mink, did a great job.
Be the first to ReplyGreat sushi!
Very clean! Our waitress was very good, friendly, and knowledgeable of the menu. Great sushi!! Would return if in NYC. We were upstairs and good separation from others.
Be the first to ReplyFresh sushi is what you get.
The restaurant is set up well for Covid. Lots of spacing. The service was excellent all night and the sushi was delicious. We had the toro bowl and the sushi sashimi plate. Everything was tasty and fresh and well done. None of the special rolls of some places just great fish.
Be the first to ReplyGood sushi, not so good atmosphere/vibe
I chose this restaurant carefully after reading a lot of reviews. The sushi itself was good. The service and rushed nature of the restaurant was not. We ordered the box with 9 different kinds of sushi to start and we were told that it would not be enough food. We were aware of this and just wanted to order as we went. The waiter told us the sushi chef was busy and we may not be able to order. We went ahead with our plan anyhow. The waiter dropped off the box which was indeed beautiful but he did not tell us what one thing was. My experience in the past has been they the server typically tells you what each item is. We enjoyed it anyhow and ordered a few more rolls which were made without any issue. Our drinks were forgotten which was ok but just contributed to the overall night. Not a bad night, not a good night.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible for families
They do not families. They lied to us telling that would close soon, but the true is they didn't want to take us. What a terrible thing to do with the customers.

Go here. You will thank me. Travel here by any means necessary! Yes, it is pricey, and worth every cent. The waitstaff is engaged and attentive. There are lots of sake options and the food is spectacular. I eat a lot of sashimi. I canโt think of another place where it melts in your mouth. The warm wash cloths are to encourage using your fingers. Spectacular sushi place
Be the first to ReplyThe best Sashimi Iโve ever had.
We dined here for dinner and had a wonderful experience. The food, the service and the ambiance were all spot on. I swear that the sashimi I had were swimming that morning. The food was spectacular. I opted for a salmon starter that was excellent. My wife had the crab and avocado starter and a very tasty roll entre. Our server was excellent. We had wine with our dinner. They have, what seemed to me to be a very good Sake menu although weโre not into it. I canโt wait to go back. Thus will be a must visit on our NYC trips. I thought the pricing was very fair for what you got.
Be the first to ReplyTHE best sushi in NYC
Visited here amongst many other sushi places on my regular work trips to new york. The price is a little higher than some other places, but you get what you pay for. The fish itself was amazing. We went with the option to allow the chef to choose a mixture of nigiri (I can't even remember whether this was an option on the menu, or whether it was just offered to us) but I'd recommend taking this option since it meant we got the freshest, high quality options that they had on offer for the evening. It was also a chance to try something new!
Quite a chilled vibe, and felt that there was a good mix of professionals, tourists and locals.
