We have been going to Harris' every year for my birthday for 15 years, and booking well (at least a month) in advance. We've always requested a booth, and thinking that such an advance reservation, especially during these times of COVID, it would be OK.We realize, as I'm sure most people do, that requesting a booth always gives you the response from the restaurant that "we will do our best to accommodate your request, but no guarantee". And we can live with that. But since we've been such regular customers and we made our reservations so far in advance (six weeks) and given the COVID situation of restaurants being a bit under reserved, we were totally surprised when we got there tonight and were met by a very, well, "haughty" host who told us the best he could do was seat us in the bar. It was obvious to us that there were several open booths available. One of the waiters (a very nice guy) said "I'll see what I can do about letting you know which ones of my tables may be moving soon". And, get this, our reservation was at 6:30 - not an extremely popular time (but I could be wrong, of course). But the attitude of the host was just bordering on obnoxious, especially since it was my birthday and we had made the reservations so far in advance. And, again, he had several open booths. So what's the problem here ?Anyway, his attitude alone made us leave and, frankly, not want to return even though we've been going there so many years.Instead, on the spur of the moment, we went to Morton's downtown, where, without a reservation, they gave us an excellent table, and we dropped over $500 on dinner. Harris' loss. And with that attitude, unfortunately, we will probably not return, nor recommend Harris' to any of our friends.A host with an attitude and no graciousness is a determining factor to where we want to spend our dollars. As well, of course, as the quality of the food and service. So, long story short (I guess too late for that) is forget Harris'. Go to Morton's, Boulevard, the Ritz, or even House of Prime Rib (which is an experience in itself) but don't waste your time and money on a property that doesn't appreciate your patronage.
