Exquisite fine dining
Discovered the true meaning of fine dining. Have never tasted such tasty food in my entire life. If you want to experience how the elite and super wealthy dine, this is the restaurant. Very special.

Dined here on Christmas Day for the degustation lunch. A stunning setting with a pretty hearty price tag. The lunch itself was a work of art, however, I believe the property has changed hands and my experience was not as good as last Christmas. No sorbet between courses, and no introduction or historical details of the property. The seemlier was outstanding, the wine matches were an experience in itself. A wonderful experience the food was a work of art, but donโt drop the ball new owners, as it was noticed.
Be the first to ReplyNot good at all!
We arrived for dinner early and went into the bar. One person wanted champagne and was served the dregs of a long-opened bottle. Not a bubble in sight, and the contents did not get up to any kind of measure. Demanded a new bottle be opened and the difference was obvious, even to the waiter, but still not a generous helping. The booking was for Hardy's Verandah, but we were seated in a closed room, well away from the Verandah, with another table of four. We could have been in any restaurant, anywhere! Someone else said the service was like being served by a block of ice and that the food description were delivered at machine gun pace, and they were right. The service was inattentive, and I twice had to raise my voice to attract the attention of a waiter going past as if in a dream! The wines are priced outrageously, especially when you know the wines and know how much Dan Murphy's charges delivered to the front door! The food was very "fancy", but OK, but nowhere near as generous in the portions as the degustation at Hentley Farm. Eventually the bill came and it was more expensive even than Hentley Farm, and no where near the value! I will not be going back!

Dinner was beautifully served and the establishment catered for my Wife's vegetarian requirements with no issues at all. Very well presented food and cooked superbly. Waiting staff were professional and helpful in explaining the dishes as they were served.
Be the first to Replyone of the best meals I have ever had. the sommelier is exceptional.
the sommelier is one of the most interesting men I have come across. his historical knowledge was a delight

A fantastic experience - we cannot wait to be back. Love the additions to the new winter menu. The team are so knowledgable - we are impressed every time by the expansive cellar!
Be the first to ReplyFour course Dining
The food was simply superb, fresh, elegant and with carefully matched flavours and textures. This is truly a 3 hat experience. We chose to have the matching wines as well which were well chosen and described by our Somelier
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal and wines. Beautiful view
We had a 4 course gourmet meal. Excellent food, Excellent Service and the wines recommended by the Sommelier was perfect for us
Be the first to ReplyA truly beautiful experience
From the moment we walked in we were greeted with so many welcoming faces we felt like VIP. The food is absolutely incredible, the best quality produce that is thoughtful, respecful and curated to bring such pleasure to your palate. Accompanied by one of the most astonishing wines lists I have even seen. This is beyond a meal is an experience that left is feeling uplifted.
Be the first to ReplyDid not meet expectations
For a three hat fine dining restaurant we were unimpressed with the food on offer on the four course menu apart from the signature dish of the Wagyu brisket and Black Angus tenderloin which was delicious. The spring vegetable main course was miniscule but was supplemented with roti which compensated somewhat for the size of the serve. The majority of dishes lacked the wow factor expected from an award winning establishment both in flavour and presentation which was overall, disappointing. We had to initiate conversation around food substitutes for two of our guests who had a nut allergy as a number of dishes contained nut ingredients. The waitperson and chef were accommodating but the restaurant had been informed when the booking was made so should have shown some initiative in this regard. There were too many waitstaff which sounds silly but there was a lack of communication between them resulting in the wrong food being placed in front of diners on our table. Unacceptable. The explanations of dishes were rushed and difficult to understand. Somewhat disappointing. Having said that, the staff were friendly and engaging. At the end of the four courses we expected to be asked to order coffee but after quite some time we went looking for someone to take our coffee orders and when they came we were told both flat whites were prepared with skim milk despite ordering only one with skim milk. No sugar or spoons were delivered with the coffees and once again we waited and waited until we finally left our table to find someone to attend to this oversight. The ambience and location were good but we left disappointed with the overall dining experience, which fell far short of our expectations both in value and service.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and service, disappointing wine margins
Had the wonderful 7 course tasting menu. The food and the service were all exceptional. Our wonderful Italian sommelier helped us navigate a very extensive wine list and managed to pick some wonderful wines for us. My only complaint were the excessive margins on the wines. Whilst I appreciate that restaurants like this do charge a premium for their wines, I felt in this case the margins were excessive and resulted in us choosing lessor wines than we would perhaps have liked to. However our sommelier did very well, although paying between $200 - $300 a bottle for wines that can be bought retail for between $60 and $100 left a bit of a bitter taste in our mouths. Would I go back? Well probably not because of the wine mark-ups, it spoilt for us what would have otherwise been a near perfect dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyOverall a very pleasant dining experience. Food was very good and service fairly efficient.
Restaurant is located in Mount Lofty House and the views over the surrounding hills were very pleasant but would have been stunning during daylight hours. There were two different menus being the A La Carte with a choice of four courses (selections from three starters, three entrees, four mains and three desserts) for $159 with sides being an extra $14 each, or the seven (eight if you include the palate cleanser) course degustation for $235 per person. There was a choice of two wine pairings at $145 or $315 per person. We chose the degustation which started with an amuse bouche and bread (which was subsequently topped up) followed by dishes of Kingfish with buttermilk and caviar, raw Wagyu beef with Enoki mushrooms and Ponzu then Cod with black vinegar and abalone. All very tasty and well presented. The two more substantial dishes were the Pork with cauliflower pickles and Macadamia emulsion and the Waygu brisket with black Angus tenderloin, scallop and pearl onion. Both of these dishes were excellent. There was a pomegranate palate cleanser followed by a dark chocolate dessert with wattle seed ice-cream and coffee and then cheese. The dessert was probably a little bit heavy following the previous courses. Wine and cocktail list was quite substantial. The dishes overall were reasonably well spaced and the service was efficient though some of the explanations of the dishes was very quick and the masks unfortunately didn't assist the clarity. Stayed inhouse so great not having to worry about transport home.

I will admit to high expectations prior and unfortunately these were not met. The service was unexceptional, descriptions of the food by staff rattled off at a fast pace leaving the consumer wondering what was actually said. Would have preferred the menu be left at the table, so we could understand what was being served. We chose the four course meal without wines. For younger healthier appetites, this option would leave them hungry, given that the courses are bite size. The sour dough bread and the first seafood course were the highlight. The second course of pork belly was memorable for the wrong reason. The small piece of pork belly on the plate was surrounded with lovely favors, but I was hard pressed to taste anything but pork fat which left an overall unpleasant taste. The third course was duck. The duck was perfectly cooked, but the flavors clashed, which brings to mind, less is best. The parfait for dessert continued on the path of disappointment. A solid block of cream, no flavor and difficult to eat because of it's density. The sorbet and brandy snap however were quite edible. Given the quality of this meal, it is certainly not worth its price tag. It concerns me that overseas and interstate visitors may go away thinking this is the best Adelaide has to offer.
Be the first to ReplyPretentious
The staff had the personality of an ice block, it was factory delivery of the food and the wine measure in our glasses was stingy at best. At no time were we asked if everything is ok and to be honest we have had better meals elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyVery good!
I've eaten at many '3 hat' and 3 Michelin star restaurants and the food here is of a comparable standard, but with just one exception. I would not say that any of the dishes are truly memorable. It's 4 weeks since I visited and I struggle to recall what I thought was the best dish. In comparison, I ate at Tetuya's and Fat Duck more than 10 years ago and I can still tell you my favourite dish. For me, this place lacks a dish that is a true 'show stopper'. It was all excellent but nothing truly amazed me. The service was very good, but it did feel a bit robotic at times. Again, I can tell you the names of some of the best waiters I've had looking after me that other restaurants, but I can't recall the names of the staff who looked after us on the evening we ate here. In contrast, we were staying at Sequoia and I can recall the names of the staff who looked after us. To be honest, if I were staying at Sequoia again I would much prefer to just eat there than to go to Hardy's again, mainly because of the warmth of service at Sequoia.
Be the first to ReplyOkay, not worth the price tag
I so desperately wanted to love this restaurant, given we are staying in the hotel, and to add the extra star to make my review four star, but unfortunately on reflection Iโm just disappointed.
I have dined in many hatted restaurants around the world, so I suppose maybe my expectations are higher than average.
We chose the 7 course degustation meal with a sommelier wine matching - total of $700. A more pricey experience, but worth it to us if my experience of hatted restaurants rang true.
We were greeted and seated at our table. It took about half an hour for the amuse-bouche to come, and then about another half an hour for the bread (which was given to another table first, we had been forgotten about!).
What followed were seven courses, all quite nice, donโt get me wrong, but bite sized and served over the course of 3.5 hours! We left at 10pm - our booking was at 6.30 - and due to the meal size and delay between we were simply exhausted given the time. My partner and I weโre cracking joked at the table about being tortured and begging for our tea - brightened the mood but not too far from the reality. We were bored.
Unfortunately the service was lacking. We saw the sommelier a few times - she was knowledgeable and lovely albeit a little hard to understand with her accent. Not a problem though, hopefully when the mask mandate is lifted it will be easier to understand her accent.
Our drinks were poured prior to each course by at least 20 mins. The pour was smaller than the average, so we were desperately trying to not drink our wine whilst waiting for our food. It was a bit of a shambles.
Unfortunately the staff donโt appear to have been trained properly in correct silver service, regularly doing things such as reaching across my bread plate to serve me (whilst I had bread in hand), placing wine glasses on the table without clearly the empties (at one stage we had 5 empty glasses on the table) and racing off before we could ask questions about our plate after it was announced. We had a different waiter for every course, hard to establish rapport and even think about tipping.
There are one or two staff that know what they are doing. Also, they are ALL LOVELY, just not properly trained. Also very hard to understand with thick accents and masks but again this will be better when mask mandate is gone - perhaps they could leave a menu on the table to we can follow along with what we are eating?
Special mention to the Canadian lady and the Spanish (maybe Italian?) man - both are assets to the team.
Iโve been to many degustations and unfortunately this fell short of the standard I expected for a hatted restaurant.
Our favourite dining experience
Our favourite restaurant in South Australia. Such a delight the service, food & wine is second to none. The first visit we chose the 7 course degustation with the premium wine match and it was worth every penny. This most recent time we chose the 4 course and added in the extra coffin bay oysters and chose our wines with the help of the sommelier. The Rusden Black Guts Shiraz was beautiful. We booked well in advance choosing the 6.15pm setting to watch the sunset over the stunning Piccadilly valley. It is worth going early to enjoy a cocktail at the Arthur Waterhouse bar also in Mount Lofty House - I can highly recommend the spritz cocktail for a refreshing drink.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal & service
We were staying inMt Lofty House and the verandah was the logical place to eat on at least one of the evenings. We did a wine tasting earlier in the afternoon and were pleased to find two or three of the tasted wines on the per glass menu.
The $145 set 4 course meal was excellent. I know the sizes are small at these fine dining places but the pork belly entree could have been more generous as it was one of the best I've tasted. The rest of the meal was of a high standard, ;local, tasty and well presented and I won't mention each course as the varieties vary with seasons & availability.
The sommelier was recent arrival to Au and this place but certainly knew the wines and helped with selections.
Our anniversary in chocolate with all treats was unexpected and a nice touch.
This is our second time there and won't be our last.
An amazing experience
We were staying in the Lodge for an anniversary and had 7 course meal paired with sommelier's choice of wines. Special tribute to sommelier Abhas Saxena, who explained the choice of wines and provided alternatives to match different tastes. His attention and knowledge really made the evening special. Service from all staff was excellent. The food was also excellent, as were the views from the window table.

Divine views, wonderful service and lovely food and wine. stayed onsite as well, making the experience all the more enjoyable!
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service, mediocre food, and suboptimal wine paring
A seven-course degustation was included with our package at Sequoia lodge.
We have dined at many 1,2 and 3 Michelin star restaurants throughout Asia, so we had some expectations of what HVR would be like.
Sadly, none of the expectations were met.
On arrival we waited in the reception for some time, when someone did finally come they served the party behind us first, leaving us standing at the reception for some time more. Not a single staff member spoke to us or acknowledged us during this time.
After waiting a bit more, we were then greeted and taken to our table. The table itself was nice, overlooking the grounds. The staff member then placed down menus for us and asked us to have a look. This would seem fine, had we not already pre-selected the seven-course degustation ahead of time. More waiting as busy/rushed staff passed us by.
Eventually, another waiter comes over and asks if we had made our choice when I informed him we had pre-selected the seven-course degustation his reply was a very sarcastic "of course you have".
So clearly they had no idea what had been pre-arranged.
At this point, I left the table to visit the restroom. On returning the entree had already been placed down. Little introduction was given to my wife and none was given when I returned.
This entree was actually quite nice, consisting of three small eats including pineapple, kangaroo, and salmon eggs. Sadly this was also the highlight of the night's dining.
We had not even finished the entree and the welcome drink before the first course was placed down.
Very little introduction of the food and wine were given, the waiter disappeared before I even had a chance to ask anything. This dish was average, I don't recall what it was as the waiter could not be bothered to actually introduce the food, and the menus were taken away.
Once again before we had finished this dish the next one was placed down for us.
This I recall was beef and mushroom with a sake pairing. I asked the waiter how this paired and what flavors we should be looking out for. I got a very blunt single-word reply of "umami". He quickly disappeared from the table. This dish had very nice beef, but everything else on the plate was so strong that it overpowered the raw beef by a large margin. Next up was a fish dish. The fish was dry, bland, and honestly, I don't know anything else as the waiter once again rushed off.
At this point, we both made the call to get up and leave.
The waiter at this point said "no worries" and left us to walk out.
Not even ask why we only ate three of our seven courses.
We did not feel like dealing with rude, cold, and blunt service in what should be a fine dining restaurant. The staff made us feel unwelcome and unwanted. Everything was rushed and impolite.
I would not consider returning to this restaurant for any occasion.
A Christmas Treat!
We relished in returning to Hardyโs Verandah Restaurant on TWO consecutive days recently โ having their four course option on Christmas Eve for dinner and then a loooong and fabulous degustation lunch on Christmas Day. Both of those meals were the best Christmas presents our stomachs could have wished for and on Christmas Day, the wine pairings devised by Liinaa were especially good โ so creative and delivered with all the required information. In particular, the whipped tomato/summer berries/caviar dish that appeared at the start of the Christmas menu was exquisite. It would be so good to see that making its way onto their normal menu. The little petit four โsnowyโ-looking meringue was a beautiful way to round it all off โ and every step in between was first class, served to us by a first class team.

The wine is very expensive but they have over 900 wines to select from. You can drink the free champagne from your room at the restaurant ๐. The 4 course meal with choices was absolutely fantastic and the service impeccable.

We chose the four course menu which was mouthwatering. Gourmet food, a wine list bigger than Ben Hurr and delivered with top class service.
