Amazing atmosphere and wide selection of fresh seafood
The staff really made our visit special, and the seafood is very fresh! We really enjoyed our evening there, and weโll definitely be back when we visit DC next time! Thank you so much for the contagious passion and enthusiasm that you put into your work! Emanuele & Ines
Be the first to ReplyGem on the Wharf in DC
Visited Hankโs twice during a business trip this week. OMG. It was so good I would stay at the Canopy by Hilton just so I can eat here each night. Food was phenomenal and service was just as good. You have to try it. Started with the grilled octopus with citrus salad and finished with the fried cod sandwich. Octopus was perfectly cooked and the citrus salad brightened everything up. Very nice indeed. Could not be more pleased. RE the fish sandwich: bun was soft and buttery and fish was cooked to perfection. Service was attentive and very friendly. Highly recommend this gem at the wharf in DC. Cheers.
Be the first to ReplyLoud and limited
We went to Hank's after seeing a play. I knew that the prices were high, but I expected better service. After being seated, it seemed that other tables were served before our order was taken. Even half full, the place is loud! We decided to eat light, so my husband had an excellent lobster bisque with a side of perfectly seasoned hush puppies. I had the oyster po boy with "old bay seasoned" fries. The oysters were fabulous. Four fat fellows resting on a thick piece of bread. However, no sauce. I asked for tartar & remoulade sauce. The tartar was excellent, the remoulade tasted like mustard & mayonnaise. The fries were old, and I don't think that they ever saw a jar of old bay. I ordered the only draft lager, and it arrived kind of warm and flat. The bill came - for a sandwich, soup, side, and a beer - $70 + tip.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and oysters
Casual atmosphere with table, bar, oyster bar, and year-round outdoor patio (heated and clear plastic tarp covered) seating. Patio is a bit quieter, but still a bit chilly on a very cold and windy night. Service was excellent, as were the raw and fried oysters. Crab cake a bit small, but tasty. A little pricey, but I guess thatโs the cost of eating on the Wharf.

After a day at the Smithsonian, it was time for a few adult beverages and a visit to the Wharf. Sat at the bar at Hank's and ordered a dozen oysters, and was not disappointed. We followed the oysters with scallops and crab cakes. In our opinion, the scallops were the better of the two entrees. Kudos to the bartender (sorry I did not get his name), for following me out to the parking lot to return the credit card I had left on the bar. In a somewhat 'tourist' area, it was greatly appreciated.
Be the first to ReplyIf you like oysters, you will love this
Saturday lunch at the Wharf at 1230 - no problem getting a table but the place was quite busy - for good reason. We had a half dozen raw oysters (assortment of the six on offer), they arrived and the waiter explained which were which and even was on the order for reference. All were fantastic and a great way to try different varieties. Oyster Po' Boy was luscious - the oyster were full and obviously fresh fried. Great all around.
Be the first to ReplyGold Fish crackers!
Busy place on a Saturday for lunch but we were seated quickly in the heated, covered patio with a nice view of the river. A small bowl of Gold fish crackers was served with the water. We were there for the crab cakes and they were delicious! As was the Autumn Salad with butternut squash. I enjoyed a mimosa with my meal. A small dish of dark chocolate chunks was served with the check. Our server was attentive. Excellent meal.
Be the first to ReplyMaybe I'm Out of Touch
Maybe Iโm Out of Touch During a rare visit to Washington to conduct some business on Capitol Hill, I was eager to try one of DC's popular restaurants. Loving seafood, I settled on Hank's at The Wharf. Maybe Iโm too old school, but I left disappointed at my poor choices. The lobster roll appealed to me, so I ordered it, even as I was a little nervous about the $31 price tag. It was accompanied by French fries seasoned with Old Bay. A glass of iced water sufficed. I envisioned for the price a sandwich that would make any New Englander envy me. Imagine my surprise when a split-top hot dog sized bun arrived containing no more than two heaping tablespoons of lobster filling. Eying this underwhelming offering, I went to work on the Old Bay fries, which turned out to be another mistake. When biting into the roll, I discovered the powerful seasoning of the fries completely negated any taste of the delicately flavor of the lobster filling. You can be sure that I ate every bite of that over-priced sandwich, trying to no avail to wash the Old Bay from my palate, hoping the roll would reveal some flavor. After tax and tip for the excellent service the tab was over $41. Then, I was even more deflated when it cost me $10 to exit the parking garage. Yikes!
Be the first to ReplyJust ok- high priced and missing ambiance
Read good reviews. What a disappointment. Expected a good seafood dinner at a nice place. For the prices, the ambiance did not match. Very rough and relaxed seafood market feel. When I spend $200 I expect more. Food quality was decent. Calamari appetizer was hot, light and fresh. Clam chowder was what youโd expect. Lobster bisque and ONE chunk of meat - really? Salmon was very good. Fish and chips was as expected anywhere. Not memorable. Service was fine. For the price, Iโd expect more. Wouldnโt recommend or go back.

Went twice and good food both times French toast was amazing! Burger good although would have been good to have a single burger option. Waitress lovely but front desk team didn't feel as welcoming
Be the first to ReplyGreat vibe
Great restaurant. We had reservations and were immediately seated. We ate outside which was great. The food, drinks, and service were top notch. Would definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyPoor customer service.
Poor customer service. They demand that you show up at the restaurant to make a reservation! The wait is long and need to stay in the cold or heat (outside) to wait to be summoned.
Also front desk reservation staff is vey unfriendly. Stay away!!
Great apps!
Really nice portion sizes, great drinks and bartender! prices very reasonable, food tasty! We got the calimari/shrimp combo, not over cooked at all- delish!
Be the first to ReplyGreat Brunch Spot
Venturing out and to the wharf to see the buzz, we were not disappointed. Sunday brunch was hopping at this place with tables inside and a large patio outside (partly covered). The service is good and it's a causal place so no need to dress up but just come and enjoy. The brunch menu is not huge but covers all the categories and they supplement it with the full lunch/main menu so you are going to find something great to eat.
The oysters - which you came for are delicious. We had them fried and then in the frittata and both were light and tender. Great drink menu with a lot of creativity. Our table had the shrimp/grits, fish and chips, frittata, and pasta so we sampled the menu. No dessert menu, so plan a second stop or walk the wharf for a sweet.
Fried Oyster Po' Boy
We ate comfortably at a tent outside and had a delightful dinner. Thought the setting was informal, the food and service were very good. The Salty Wolfe oysters were yummy, and indeed salty. The Mixed Greens and Caeser's with Anchovies salads were excellent and generous. We both decided to have fried oysters; my wife had the appetizer and I had the Po' Boy. Both were very good. I tried to not eat all the fries, but could not resist.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful sunset dining on the wharf!
We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation time, but they were too crowded to seat us early. That was fine - we walked along the wharf/pier and watched the sunset and the lighting of the fire pit. Service was quick and accurate. Tried a new oyster variety that I will remember! YUM! And everyone enjoyed our entrees, too! Capped off a nice day of sight-seeing!
Be the first to ReplyHow many times can you get an order wrong?
I don't like onions, actually, they don't like me. I told the waiter this and he advised me against two dishes I really wanted, including sausage and gravy. Now, I'm from the South and I've never seen ANYONE put onions in sausage and gravy. Someone else in my party ordered them and they were covered in scallions along the top. I mean, it's not difficult to NOT put the scallions on the dish, but to my waiter this apparently was impossible. So I ended up with a fish sandwich which had the batter falling off the fish as soon as I touched it, giving me alternate mouthfuls of fish and batter. Most disappointing. For all its hype, I found it subpar and annoying more than anything. There are better places to eat.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food!
Hanks restaurant was delicious do not contemplate about dining here. I came back in June 2021 but they stay busy but I understand why- so this time I made a reservation and had no issues being seated. I heard so much about the bbq oysters and ohhh my they were delicious and you will want more. The staff is very attentive because they are so busy they do have a minimum dining time based off the size of your party and the view is excellent.
Be the first to ReplyGood food at the Wharf
Good calamari and ship. Lobster roll was ok. Fettuccine with shrimp was pretty good. Iโve never been to a restaurant that had a schedule telling you when to leave. Maybe itโs a pandemic thing but was appropriate.
Be the first to ReplyBusy, busy, busy
If you don't get the lobster deviled eggs, you may as well not go here. Okay, that was dramatic but I really think everyone needs to give them a shot. Luckily, my dining partner doesn't care for deviled eggs in general so I got the platter to myself.
The service was good for a seemingly short staffed evening and even though people were skirting the "wear a mask unless you're eating or drinking" rule we felt comfortable at our outdoor table. Going inside to use the restroom, though, people were shoulder to shoulder without masks yucking it up and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Restroom could use a clean, by the way.
Anyway, make sure to make reservations to secure your spot and enjoy your outside dining.
