Hane Sushi San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
The service is very bad here.
All the waiters and employees look super stressed out-- which is fine, but some of the waiters came off a bit rude. Additionally, the rolls are overpriced for the quality you are getting. There are far better options on Convoy.
I would not recommend this place.
The food is very overpriced and the service is rude. We got dirty looks constantly. They charged extra for asking for ginger even though they forgot to give wasabi and ginger with our sushi. Not very good sushi either. Overpriced! Our appetizer was $13 for 4 pieces of asparagus. They also checked in front of us at the table to see if we tipped or not. They also don't take Apple Pay. They don't take large parties and refused to seat us next to our friends even though there were open tables. We were seated completely on the other side of the restaurant. They would not even let us plug in our phone into an outlet to charge the phone.
rude waitresses.
mid food for so much money. there's way better sushi in san diego. there's a lot of rules for no reason (no apple pay, no large reservations, they check for tips, ginger is $3, etc).
My wife and I heard this place had the best sushi in town
My wife and I heard this place had the best sushi in town so we had to check it out. We like to sit at the bar if we can as we feel always get the best service. This was definitely the case as Jonathan (hopefully I got that right) was amazing. Very attentive to every detail and answered all our questions. You know you are in a legit place when everyone in there speaks Japanese. We had a couple of rolls which were incredible. We also had the Miso Chilean sea bass salad, omg we could have had two as my wife devoured it. We topped the meal off with a wagyu roll. There were only two pieces but it melted in your mouth. We will be back for sure very shortly, it was a great experience and the food was equally impressive.

First and foremost, YUM!! Waking in, you're greeted with an open concept and minimalist decor. Light and bright for sure, perfect for a casual date night paired with great food. We ordered several raw dishes and amongst our favorites were the salmon nigiri and a tostada style dish! Absolutely delicious and fresh. Our waitress did a fantastic job of providing excellent customer service and recommendations. Our pallets were laid to rest with a nice dry sake. We will definitely be returning for this raw experience.

I went here for my first and last time last Wednesday for lunch. I was excited to try this place. We sat down quickly since the place was not busy and ordered our food and appetizers. Appetizers came out relatively quick but our entrees, chef choice sashimi and 3 Nigiri orders, took about 40 minutes. Waitress was snobby and not pleasant at all. Sushi was good quality but very small portions for the price. A lady came in while were there and loudly complained that she had to pay $26 for a roll with just salmon and cucumber. I checked other reviews and this seems to be a common theme....overpriced and bad service. I would usually lick my wounds and leave without leaving a bad yelp review BUT when I checked my credit card info a few days later I noticed I was charged an extra $10 than what was my total after tip (I have very good penmanship so it wasn't a mistake). I have been in the industry so even though the service was bad I still left a 20% tip. I'm guessing the waitress didn't like my 20% tip and added an additional $10 to it. I called the restaurant and told them the mistake and they acted like I was bothering them and told me I should just take it up with my credit card company. Excuse me??? When did customer service and making right a wrong go to the wayside. I demanded the manager call me and left my number and never received a phone call. Do not go here, there are many other amazing Sushi restaurants in San Diego that treat you better and have better service and better priced items.
We found this place on Yelp as we were looking for
We found this place on Yelp as we were looking for restaurants around Balboa Park. It is very tiny and I highly suggest reservations, we were sat at the bar since we didn't have any. Seats were very close together and and I kept getting bumped into. We only dealt with the bartender and hostess, both super nice and great service. The food unfortunately was just meh. The rolls were extremely overpriced for basic rolls and they were just ok. We pay under $10 for these at other places and here they were closer to $20 and weren't as good. Happy to try a new place, great people and service.
Bankers hill stalwart.
Many of the wait staff have been there forever. The quality of the fish is great, and fresh. No complaints!
This is an outstanding restaurant.
We loved every minute of our dining experience here. Went with a friend who knew the owner and we sat at the sushi bar. The food is exceptional. It's a must try in my opinion. Thanks to the Hane gang for a great evening!

Sushi is as fresh as it can get 10 of 10! And service is Amazing, we sit at the sushi bar and Yoshi hook us up with incredible suggestions! Love the experience and how friendly everyone is in the restaurant.
Good is amazing.
The fish is so fresh and delicious. The service is speedy and friendly. Love it's a great little neighborhood spot. They get very busy so it's always a good idea to arrive when they open. Their bar area is first come first serve basis.
Fresh and delicious food.
Our female server is from Tokoyo, Japan and has been working at this restaurant for two years. This restaurant was not our initial choice. The other Japanese restaurant with higher rating was so booked that the line is over 90 mins so one of their staff recommended this one. We told them we drive very far to come to try their restaurants. Wow, the food, staff and options are really outstanding. We ordered Del Mar roll, crunchy salmon roll and their chef choice sashimis plate. The rolls are good. However, the sashimi plate was very small portion and very thinly sliced. My other Japanese sashimis at other local restaurants are more on the generous side with more pieces and thicker slice. Our staff was very attentive and when we felt our initial two orders were too small. She quickly asked what my wife like and recommended the crunchy salmon roll. This shows she is a good waitress that seeks to 7nderstand her customer's preferences before making a recommendation. She is so good. When she heard it is our 18 th anniversary dinner, she gave us free red bean ice cream to finish our delicious dinner. Cannot wait to try the one down the street since they have higher rating.
Came to visit Take, holy moly.
Take holds no punches, we have a long history and he knows he can throw anything at me and he did. I think the highlight though was the Amberjack nigiri with sesame oil and salt on it. Honestly the most simplest things can really just be amazing. Tuna tartar is always a must here, Ikura, any maguro, and he made us a ceviche roll I believe it was called, WOW. Always awesome!!!
I have been here several times and it is always fantastic!
I have been here several times and it is always fantastic! A reservation is highly recommended (call, not able to book online) bc this place gets busy. Theres tables, sushi bar, and regular bar seats. Most recently I sat at the bar so my friends could watch the football game. I usually go for a seaweed salad but unfortunately, theirs is not my fave. Its too soaked in liquid with a puddle at the bottom and it must be vinegar bc its so tart. The miso soup and green salad are other good options. This time I ordered the Del Mar roll which is AMAZING. Its mixed crab on the inside (real crab) and kobe beef on top. Delectable. I also always go for uni bc I love that creamy stuff! That was delicious as usual. Other rolls I recommend are the double double and threesome. Our bartender provided us with superb service and I may just go for a bar seat going forward - especially if there is a wait for a table! This is my go to sushi spot close to home. Yummmmm
Rood hostess
This is the third time we come here and have an issue with the booking lady, she is always rood, last time we where 5 min. Early the place was empty and she dis not let us seat. This time we arrived 8:00 sharp and she said we could not seat until all of us where here, always with a bad atritude in a Sunday night half of the tables empty. Sushi is ok but it is not worth it.
