Free Range Kitchen Basalt Reviews from The Last Year
We've been eating at Free Range since they started where
We've been eating at Free Range since they started where Rhyno's is now. Great ambience, great service and the owners are very good at hosting. Fancy, gourmet meals in a casual but chic setting and a great looking bar. But alas their food is lacking but expensive. I've tried about twenty of their dishes over the years and usually it's just OK or the chef got too creative and totally missed the mark, or just simply mis-executed. I'd expect more for the prices they charge. For example a Thai green (veggie) curry that's nothing special, actually kind of bland, for $24. The most memorable part is the mushiness of the zuchini chunks that's in it. Add chicken and it's a $32 curry. A $32 curry should knock my socks off but it doesn't. For comparison, green curry at Thai #9 in Grand Junction is $16 and amazing. Another example was the cavatelli - nice texture but it was sauced wierdly tart. And finally my daughter ordered a steak medium rare but it came out well-done and inedibly bitter from being so charred on the outside. I usually just have their burgers which are always good. Brussel sprouts are good too. I understand this restaurant's success is that they have developed a clientele that is mostly Roaring Club (private golf club) members. Kudos to the owners operating a thriving business.
I was visiting from out of town.
This is one of my favorite restaurants we stumbled upon. From the beginning the hostess was so sweet and even though it was a busy Friday Night, she was able to accommodate us. The staff is very friendly. The menu had a lot of good choices. The Tijuana Caesar Salad was excellent, 14 hour short rib manicotti was delicious but very rich. They do tell you it is very rich, that I appreciated. The Caesar salad is a good accompaniment with that. Grilled hangar steak and the smash burger were cooked perfectly and are their most popular items. Friday Nights you have Rodrigo playing music. Very fun music and good vibe in the whole restaurant. Definitely check it out. I miss it already.
Numerous people I spoke with prior to our trip recommended
Numerous people I spoke with prior to our trip recommended this place so I made a reservation in advance. Service was good, ambience great and the food and drinks superb! I was prepared to be underwhelmed since it was hyped up, but it did not disappoint. All 5 of us ordered different entrees and everyone was happy.

This isn't a restaurant, it is a unique slice of the universe draped in love and happiness. The two proprietors serve a wonderful, tasteful and inspired menu with love and welcome. If you want a warm hug of an experience for dinner - with good food, music, atmosphere, cocktails and happiness, look no further.
Even though they advertise as vegetarian friendly the fact
Even though they advertise as vegetarian friendly the fact of the matter is there are no entrees that are vegetarian. This is a meat eater's restaurant. The service was fair but there was an extremely long wait from ordering to receiving food and the food was only marginally warm. I am not one to complain about service and food quality but I have been here several times now and am consistently disappointed.
We had the best dinner here.
The burger was perfect. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and melted in your mouth. Not oily. The ranch salad was delicious. Loved the perfect amount of dressing. I will definitely one back when I am In Basalt.
This is my favorite restaurant in the Roaring Fork Valley!
This is my favorite restaurant in the Roaring Fork Valley! The Brie charcuterie board with the sourdough from Louis Swiss knocked my socks off. My entree was the pork tenderloin with sweet potato puree and it was delicious! The service was excellent and the atmosphere was warming!
Very good.
Interesting menu and cool vibe. The RFV is a hard place to find good service sometimes but this was top notch.
Amazing location.
Food is always great and unique. We went one day and they had live entertainment which was amazing.
Fantastic food fantastic service and to top it off there
Fantastic food fantastic service and to top it off there was a private wedding before they opened and you would have never known they had already taken care of approx 50-60 people before hand on a Friday night none the less! Amazing!!!!

I love Free Range because of the service, the owners (Robin and Steve), the setting and the food. I'm not a huge pimento cheese fan but I had their pimento cheese trout dip and it was a home run. The lobster risotto and curry are 5 star quality. I can't say enough good things about Free Range. Give it a try!

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
|
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
