Five Crowns Newport Beach Reviews from The Last Year
Came on Mother's Day and was not disappointed.
We had reservations for 4:45PM but the place was PACKED (it was Mother's Day after all). We ended up finding street parking, but there is a valet across the restaurant that will park your car for you. It took maybe 15 minutes for us to get seated. Btw, if you're coming with a baby, only the woman's bathroom has a changing table. That was a bit disappointing for me since it was Mother's Day and I wanted my husband to change the baby, lol. Overall, we had a good time - the food came out pretty promptly after we ordered. If anything, the bread took the longest to come out but it was being freshly baked. We opted for the biggest cuts of prime rib (Henry VIII) and thought we wouldn't finish them, but we did. The Henry cut comes with the prime rib on the bone, which of course adds onto the weight. We got ours medium rare and it came out perfect. The au jus was piping hot and smelled heavenly when it arrived at the table. You also get the option of raw horseradish or creamy to pair with your food. They also serve Lawry's seasoned salt and pepper, but we opted for fresh cracked pepper from the pepper mill instead. After the meal, we enjoyed a nice stroll around the beach and even made it home before baby's bedtime! Overall, a great first Mother's Day - thanks Five Crowns!
We sat at the bar we ordered a drink and within five
We sat at the bar we ordered a drink and within five minutes of ordering our food we had it we didn't even get to enjoy the ambience of the restaurant food Fatty prime rib, and the smallest portion of potatoes very disappointing .. to fast to cold :(
We came for a graduation dinner and it was great! The bread
We came for a graduation dinner and it was great! The bread was great and came with flaky salt that paired great. The prime rib was also great and came with some sides. It is perfectly cooked and super tender. It took an hour for our entrees to be out, but understandable since it's a packed graduation night. At the end, we were also given an ice cream sundae gift and an assortment of toppings for graduation.
I grew up going to this restaurant and last night didn't
I grew up going to this restaurant and last night didn't disappoint. I ordered my favorite, Prime Rib with Cream Spinach, Yorkshire Pudding and Mashed Potato's. Then ended this fantastic Meal with Dark Chocolate Soufflé! Also we had the best service ever, Thank you Tyler!!!!
I've been missing the Carvery at South Coast since it
I've been missing the Carvery at South Coast since it closed. I still want that great food but without the pretense of formal dining. I ordered takeout once and had somebody run in to grab it while I drove around. It was putting a damper on my quick and easy vibe. But then I realized... THEY HAVE TAKEOUT PARKING IN THE VALET LOT! Game changer. Delicious prime rib on demand, and with the amazing Yorkshire pudding that the Carvery didn't have. Excited to get back!
We love your amazing Prime Rib dinner, Creamed Horseradish.
.Yorkshire Puddings...Ceasar Salad, best mashed potatoes & Bread is delicious! Must have Hot Fudge Sundae! Service is perfect and very cozy atmosphere! Love your Atrium Terrace.
If you are the big fan of prime ribs so it's a must-go
If you are the big fan of prime ribs so it's a must-go restaurant . We had Crown cut with seasonal applewood smoked, they only have the smoked version until end of April. The applewood smoked really brings the rib into next level of yummyness . the cut was served with two sides of choice, Yorkshire pudding , and creamy horseradish . I really like their creamed corn , highly recommend the side dish. One other plus, they served hot gravy on the side, that contained all the goodness of flavor. The restaurant vibe is very nice, and I love their patio area which is very beautiful. Recommending the spot for special occasions.
got a one for the steak and it's a requirement .
Appetizers uninspired, horrible selection. The pimms cup was a disapointment! I don't know how they could mess that up, but they did. The prime rib was fine, but cold cold potatoes. both mashed with cheese, stone cold. For a restaurant of this caliber,, sad. I won't be back.
Delicious spot for some prime rib! We got the special
Delicious spot for some prime rib! We got the special Akaushi prime rib and it did not disappoint. I got it with the creamed corn and the spinach and I definitely enjoyed it. I got the 6 oz and it definitely filled me up. My fiance got the 10 oz and he thought it was good with great portions. Can't wait to try this place out again!
Service was fantastic.
I loved the rolls that came before the meal. My prime rib was cooked perfectly. Lawrys beef is top quality. However, docking a star because my brother ordered his medium rare and it came out medium well. No pink at all in the middle. He didn't take it back and have it remade but for a place where you're spending this much money and with so much prestige behind it, the prime rib should come out how you order it...the chefs really dropped the ball. Our waiter was fantastic and aside from the medium rare prime rib that came out medium well for my brother, it was an amazing experience.
Five Crowns is the more bougie version of your average
Five Crowns is the more bougie version of your average Lawry's across the nation. According to the server, the reason for its namesake is because this is the 5th store to open from Lawry's. Parking is across the street and you pay $8 for valet. Service could be a bit slow and you are notified that your prime rib will take 25mins to come out. Unlike Lawry's, Five Crowns does not push out the prime rib cutting cart and your food is brought to you already cut. Another difference lies in that you do not get a salad for your prime rib meal but that's not a huge concern imo. Everything tasted good, however just a bit under "salted" but you are given Lawry's signature salt and pepper on your table for your use. Imo Five Crowns is not worth a visit unless you really enjoy the decor around the restaurant. Your average Lawry's is much better imo.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times
Our Christmas Eve dinner at Five Crowns restaurant in Corona del Mar should have been a five-star experience. The food was excellent, the service by Ronnie and other wait staff was impeccable, the carolers who serenaded us table side were delightful. But all of their hard work and effort to make the evening one to treasure was ruined by the miserable, totally inadequate, jury-rigged heating setup. We weren’t even supposed to be outside there on the plastic-tented patio. We set up our reservation for indoor seating and when we confirmed it with Angelina were told we were pre-seated at Table 21 inside. But Angelina messed up our reservation, canceling it by accident at one point, and then maybe because we questioned it we ended up at the worst table in the restaurant, as far outside as possible, and directly above the blowtorch of a heating vent. Yes, that’s right, the only heating in the huge plastic tent outside vents directly under a table, blistering our feet and those of others on surrounding tables. So a large part of the patio is freezing, with diners complaining that it needed to be turned up, and then all around us people kept rushing over and cutting it off before their shoes caught fire. What a miserable, cheap, inadequate heating arrangement. Shame on Five Crowns for forcing their staff to have to deal with freezing or frying diners because of this stupid arrangement. Five Crowns owes it to their staff and their customers to fix this ridiculous circumstance.

What's not to like? Ambience was tastefully decorated and with the flickering candles (not real), it added a nice romantic feel and warmth. Dinner portions are right on point with the price and was sad that I did not have room for dessert. Will come back if it wasn't so far.

Amazing service! After a horrible spa day we came here and ate and got the best of service with the most scrumptious eats

The oysters and prime rib are wonderful, the sea bass not so much. The servers are wonderful and bend over backwards for you, it was nice touch when they brought out cake for my boyfriend's birthday with a little candle

For our 55th Wedding Anniversary we decided to splurge and have dinner here for the first time. The server Mark was very helpful and attentive. High marks here already! We both had the Prime Rib. I had the 6 oz. and Don had a larger piece, an end cut. It was delicious. My medium rare was just that and his medium exactly the way he likes his beef. We had the special salad, which we shared and then when dessert was presented, a complimentary strawberry layered "cake", we were thrilled. Just the right amount of food, and prepared to our likes. I am intrigued with the Garden Room and hope to return when we might be seated out there!
Peggy Sue was AMAZING! Every bite was delicious.
Service was excellent. We will be back
Five Crowns has that old money feel.
It's valet only and service is impeccable. We were seated at a round table next to the fireplace which was the perfect spot for our celebration of my grandma's birthday. They also have a semi private table that's a little bit tucked away which you could probably request for a medium sized group. Staff is very attentive and professional. They are known for the Lawry's prime rib, served with yorkshire pudding and your choice of 2 sides between creamed corn, creamed (or sautéed) spinach and mashed potatoes. I have been to Lawry's and I have to say that I was a tad disappointed here. The creamed spinach tasted burnt and my prime rib felt fattier than usual. The real star of the show for me was the fresh rolls with butter and maldon salt that they bring you to start. I could almost make a meal of just that! We finished our meal with a complimentary slice of strawberry and cream cake with a candle for the birthday and overall we had a lovely time.
I've been wanting to eat here for years.
Tonight it became a reality and it did not disappoint. I was invited for a business dinner with my co-workers and their customer (they actually needed a third wheel this time ). We had a room to ourselves with a fireplace. We were able to talk and hear other. I ordered the 5oz filet medium and wild sautéed mushrooms (I shared). The dinner was delicious!! Afterwards I had pistachio crème brûlée-two favorites combined. I will definitely come back with my family.
Terrible Night at a Supposedly Good Restaurant
I know that every restaurant has a bad night, but Friday 12/22 was a very bad night at the Five Crowns. We have enjoyed meals at Lawry restaurants for the last fifty years, most of them at their Prime Rib restaurant in Beverly Hills. We were looking for a holiday dinner out for our family of six and chose the Five Crowns because of the festive atmosphere and the carolers that come to each table and sing. SUMMARY: Reservations were at 7pm; seated around then. Our dinners were set down a little after 9pm. We finally left the restaurant at 10p. DETAILS: The restaurant was clearly crowded. If you didn’t have a reservation, you didn’t get in. I had made ours 30 days out, the earliest they accepted reservations for that night. Even booking online at midnight, the only time open was 7pm. So, they knew that there was going to be a full house that night. Apparently what they weren’t prepared for was the large number of takeout orders placed that evening. As I stated above, we were seated shortly after 7pm. The server introduced himself, took our drink orders, and brought bread to the table. The drinks arrived probably around 7:30. At this time, we ordered our food. Several of the party ordered lobster bisque as a starter. This was delivered to the table around 7:45 and finished by 8. For the next hour we sat there. Bread was brought two additional times. At around 8:45, the waiter brought glasses of champagne for the table because of the long wait. The carolers who generally only sing at each table once, came to our table TWICE. Food arrived a little after 9. Now for the food. Prime rib was not hot, only warm, and with a taste that was kind of bland to be honest. The creamed spinach appeared to be just spinach and certainly not the recipe we had enjoyed at both Lawry’s Prime Rib and at Tam O’Shanter (the Lawry’s restaurant in Glendale). One of our party had the salmon. It was inedible, was sent back, and removed from our bill. Another one of our party had the chicken pot pie which looked delicious from the outside until you cut into it and realized that there was very little filling and it was mostly crust. Per our waiter’s suggestion, we ordered the dark chocolate souffle when we ordered our meals. Those arrived timely after we finished our main courses. They were hot and delicious. As for our waiter and our assistant waiter, they were both excellent. The evening clearly wasn’t their fault. As we left at 10, there were still parties waiting to be seated. The restaurant is supposed to close at 10. FINAL OPINION: When takeout orders (we heard after the fact that there were more than 300 that night) prevent a restaurant from actually delivering food to the diners who are dining in it, there is a serious problem. They should have declined the takeout orders when they got out of hand. Very disappointing experience. The first one in fifty years of dining at Lawry’s restaurants. While I understand that every restaurant has a bad night, this one was so bad that I would find it hard to convince any of our party to return. I’m sure that there are other restaurants to enjoy a festive holiday dinner in Orange County. And then, of course, we could always make a little longer drive and enjoy far better prime rib and sides at Lawry’s Beverly Hills location.

Excellent experience !
A time honored favorite spot has returned to its former glory! Been coming to the Five Crowns on and off for years.. This year the food , service and ambiance were excellent. Gorgeous for the holidays as well…
Five Crowns is a Royal Prime Rib Experience
The Five Crowns is a very special place because we celebrate the anniversary of our first date every year we can get there. There have been occasions where the food was just not up to par, the environment and temperature uncomfortable and the service just not up to what we expected. This time, our experience was the Best we have had in recent memory. Everything was perfect from the table for 2 in a quiet corner, to excellent, attentive perfect service with Shelly who has been there as long as we have been coming and her trainee Patty. Shelly adjusted the door that made it breezy an noisy so the atmosphere was perfect. The Prime Rib with Yorkshire pudding, creamed corn and spinach were perfectly prepared. Shelly reminisced with us about Tommy the long time sommelier who retired a few years back because of Alzheimer’s. Madison was kind enough to give us his current address so we could visit him. The Five Crowns is back to its full glory!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
