Will Be Back
Wanted to try the beef brisket noodles as mentioned by Mark Wiens, the youtuber foodie, but they had already run out of the beef by 11 am. So opted for soya sauce chicken noodles which were pretty good. The noodles tasted old school and were QQ and went well with the chilli. The chicken was tasty, if a smallish portion for the $4 dish. It was soft, full of flavour and had some oil scallions, which enhanced the taste. The cook was friendly while the assistant who took orders was a tad surly.
Be the first to ReplyThin egg-noodle with beef brisket & tendon was tasty & beef was quite tender.
Nov2021. I ordered the [Beef Brisket Noodle] and to my pleasant surprise it also includes beef tendon (which I love). The beef brisket & tendon were quite tender and tasty. The thin noodles were good and springy. On some days, the beef brisket noodles run out quite early. I only got to try it on my 3rd visit as I went earlier and earlier!! First try was 12.30pm - sold out. Second try was 11am - sold out. Third try was 8am and I got it!! FrancisTLim.

Forever an illusion with the beef briskets. Visited at 12:15pm lunch peak and? Beef briskets again sold out. Had the Char Siew and Roast Duck combination noodles, $6.50 while regular menu starts from $3 / $4 depending on your choice of protein. Hong Kong uncle is alway energetic in his HK style of shouting out some combo recommendations in case you're undecided about what to eat. He was actually frying sesame chicken custom orders in large platters and asked if I would like to try them, next time perhaps, I wanted roasts if I can't have briskets. Loved his noodles. Springy, al dente egg noodles in a light soy sauce and his chilli oil coating the noodles. Roast Duck is flavourful, and his char siew is pure Hong Kong style thin cut pork collar bliss. Tender, flavourful, charred and juicy with a chewy bite. Lunch is complete with a whole stem of choy sum blanched seperately and kept under the noodles to soak up the oils and keep wet, warm and fresh. Love the noodles here, and will definitely come back for more, hopefully briskets next time.
Oh ya, soup is still too salty but I already knew that. I am not here for soup anyway so no star taken for salty soup.
A piece of HK in Singapore's Chinatown
Tucked in the midst of Chinatown, Smiths Street Hawker Centre, besides the more well known HK Hawker Chan, there's a street of HK hawkers where Cantonese is rife in the air as hawkers banter with customers. Fatty Ox HK Kitchen is one such vendor. A HK husband and wife team serve up authentic HK noodles. Most famous here is the beef brisket noodles which easily sell out early lunchtime. I am here today at half past one thus I have to settle with the Char Siew and Wanton noodles. HK style springy noodles in ๅนฒๆ้ข style, lovely Charred Pork Collar Char Siew in thick, succulent chunks and 2 big wantons make super value of the $4 meal I paid. Authentic noodles, nice Xhar Siew. Only the Wanton was a little out, instead of all prawns as in HK, it's still nice with some minced pork and shitake bits. Also HK style noodles would be offering Chilli oil as an accompaniment but here they offer fried chilli sambal probably to suit local tastes. Lastly, pity the soup a fair bit too salty for my taste. I would definitely come back for my HK noodle fixย
Be the first to Replydisappointing food!
we took a great deal of searching to locate this stall in Chinatown market - we arrived at his stall at 10.30 am on a Sunday morning, and found that his famous beef brisket noodles had sold out. we had to order Soya sauce Chicken Noodles and dumplings in soup instead. we were served a skinny chicken wing with very little meat on it - we were disappointed that the chicken was not tasty at all. the dumplings were large and meaty but lacked the zing.
