Correct cutlery would be good!
I tend to visit the Collins Kitchen/Grand Hyatt lounge area because the car park in convenient and ideal spot for a coffee - which is always good. This time I decided to have a dessert before the footy at the MCG - and it was a delicious baked cheesecake beautifully decorated with various berries. But I was surprised that I was only given a spoon to eat it: l had to request a fork. Very odd.
Be the first to ReplyFriendly service &tasty food.
Warm smiles on arrival and seated in a booth overlooking Russell Street. Our waitress Paula was super friendly and explained the menu and provided advice on wines. Cosy atmosphere with a well priced menu. Great for couples, friends and families (not with small children)
Be the first to Replycasual restaurant
I went to the Sheraton Hotel where I was staying to meet a friend whose schedule happened to coincide with my travel schedule. The Sheraton is inside the CDC, but it's a little outside, and it's a small hotel. This is a casual restaurant located inside the Sheraton Hotel. I ate pasta and risotto here. This restaurant is so simple that it's hard to believe that it's a hotel restaurant. The food was delicious.
Be the first to ReplyBad good worse service
Waited to be seated no one came to seat us so we sat down. Once we sat down we were approached and got told off by staff for seating ourself on a free table. Staff were depressed the whole time. Not one of the group enjoyed their meals and the coffee was like warm Wouldnโt come back
Be the first to ReplySunday seafood buffet
Disappointing we traveled a long way for the seafood buffet, but they ran out of seafood, also did not refill the prawn dumplings. Service was really good other food was great, but no seafood on a seafood buffet.
Be the first to ReplyThe only GRAND thing is the grand disappointment
Well if this wasn't the high tea from hell then I don't know what is. Let me regale you with the saga of my high tea escapade today. We requested no seafood for me which required one item - a salmon billini - to be swapped out. No other menu item needed to be changed. My friend also called prior to confirm this. I also reminded the staff on arrival and about my intolerance issues with cucumber (uncommon but real), and things like tomato and onion. The staff member nodded as if she understood but it became very clear to us that she did not in fact understand. To give credit where it's due, the staff certainly excelled in the art of confusion. Cue the arrival of a three-tiered monstrosity adorned with food I didn't even order. Bravo, Grand Hyatt, for the audacity of assuming my palate preferences and providing me with a buffet of intolerances so I can spend the rest of the afternoon in the bathroom. They replaced the salmon billini with a cucumber summer roll so I could not eat it and for some reason changed the sandwiches which we did not want to be changed. They kept the egg sandwich which I ate but then they gave me a cucumber and onion sandwich and a tomato and beetroot sandwich. I politely requested a correction to the original menu and re-explained the intolerances, only to witness my plate vanish into the abyss of forgotten orders. I finally saw the plate again when I got up and found a waiter. Service here was scarcer than a snowflake in the Sahara. After a considerable wait, I was again presented with a plate still with a cucumber summer roll which I still couldn't eat and a the tomato sandwich I couldn't eat. In addition there was now a sad excuse for a grilled chicken sandwich โ limp and lifeless, much like my enthusiasm for the entire affair. It wasn't the chicken sandwich on the high tea menu which was the one my friend had. I explicitly explained I was supposed to get the same as we asked for the same menu. I tried the sandwich but it was terrible; worse than I would make at home. I then explained again why I still couldn't eat some of the items and the waiter got someone who I'm presuming is the manager but he did not say. I went over the whole story again and made some progress. He brought me out the wagyu beef sandwich I had originally ordered and said he was bringing two of the chicken sandwiches. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when the same sad chicken sandwich appeared. The same one I explained was awful before and quite frankly tasted like despair. I just wanted the one I ordered when booking that is on the menu. The manager said it was impossible to get the correct sandwich as the only make the exact amount of sandwiches they need for the day and not a single one more. It didn't even make sense because they had extra of the beef sandwiches. I can only assume the sandwiches are ordered in and not house made as why could you possibly not make menu items? We sent the yucky sandwiches back without touching them and just asked for the hot food. We wanted to leave but still had to pay $99 each for the food. Of course it was again a long wait, I'm assuming because they were making the correct food for once. We had arrived at 1:30 and it was now 2:20 when we finally finished the sandwich issue after a negotiation more complicated than a UN peace summit. However, the comedy of errors continued. As we dove into the hot food, the dessert buffet announced its impending closure, forcing us into a mad dash for sweets while our hot food turned cold. The irony was richer than their desserts. It was as if the food gods themselves were conspiring against us today. And let's not forget the serviceโor lack thereof. Getting a second cup of tea was akin to a quest for the Holy Grail, and the free-flow sparkling option was just another effort as we have to give the staff constant reminders. In a misguided attempt at redemption, the manager-like person offered a free cocktail each. While I appreciate the gesture, I can assure you that no amount of alcohol can erase the bitter taste of $240 wasted on an unpalatable, unrequested experience. They changed my menu without consent and insisted I indulge and be grateful. For the princely sum of $240, we were promised elegance and sophistication, but what we got was a buffet of chaos and confusion. Consider this my public service announcement: steer clear of this place unless you have a penchant for disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyUnexpected, and delicious
Nice atmosphere, food was delicious, we got the banquet and everything was amazingly flavoured, did not disappoint and we weren't rushed to leave. The only thing was that we had to call the waiters for drinks and clearing the empty dishes. Either than that staff were nice and we would go back just for the creamy mushroom with rice and to taste the other entrees, the entrees are the best!!! Chicken main was juicey but I would just order a few entrees to share, rather than the mains.
Be the first to ReplyCold hearted and horrible cancellation policy with no understanding whatsoever
This is my first negative review. Usually i accept nothing really can be too perfect and i tend not to be too fussy. We booked collins kitchen for my wifeโs birthday for saturday hi tea but cancelled last minute as her covid RAT was negative. Spoke to Henry, food and beverage director then and he reminded me of the cancellation policy of only one date change allowed. However 2 days before the new date my son was admitted in the hospital. I called to Explain my predicament. Phone calls kept going to their phillipines call centre they were largely unreachable over the phone. Eventually Nadya food and beverage coordinator got back to me reiterating their policy of no further changes after one rescheduling. I asked for reconsideration. She promised me that Henry would contact me the next day. But all Radio silence till monday the following week( my booking was for that saturday). I called the call Centre on friday 5 pm to talk to anyone but it seems no one was at the desk. I offered to give them a medical certificate to reschedule the booking as this was due to unforeseeable circumstances. They were cold hearted about it. Finally monday got a call from Leilana the Food and Beverage manager who reexplained this policy and informed me that i will be charged. The main excuse was that they had to purchase the food items. Mind you i gave a little more than 48 hours notice before hand and they got back to me 48 hours after the booking had passed. I guess there are pawns who follow instructions without using common sense or basic judgement. So i was charged 50 dollars for not Showing up, despite the fact that we were in the hospital. I think people deserve to know. Grand Hyatt Melbourneโฆ..shame on you! I think Mr Frederick Arul the GM, should look into this policy. Perhaps we should have rocked on the date of the initial booking when we were covid positiveโฆโฆor did you rather we rock up straight after discharge from the paediatric ward to Collins Kitchen for the unmissable hi tea. Go figure. Never had a hotel/restaurant booking this cold hearted.
Be the first to ReplyWould definitely go back
Nice atmosphere, good service, good food worth the price. The waiters provided good service, didnโt bother or try to hustle you out. The food was delicious. All around good experience.
Be the first to ReplyYeah nah
40 mins for food to arrive. Sulky waiters, up to and including the floor manager.. food of indifferent quality, but not priced as such. Lovely hotel.. but eat out.
Be the first to ReplyBest Bruch Melbourne
The search for the best weekend breakfast buffet in Melbourne stops here. Hands down the best not only in Melbourne but best in many years of global travel. Have eaten here several times at 7AM and by 8AM starting to get crowded. The buffet selection is amazing from hot, cold, continental and Asian (loved the dim sum selection for breakfast (its how we roll). Though somewhat expensive its really worth it in my opinion. I tried the Langham this morning and pretty much sucked, back to Collins Street tomorrow
Be the first to ReplyHigh Tea
I took my Mum here for High Tea for her Birthday. The food was beautiful and all of the Staff were so professional and polite. This was the perfect outing on a Wintery Melbourne day. Thankyou.
Be the first to ReplyRoyalty
This morning I had the great pleasure of dining for breakfast in Collins Kitchen, one of the many restaurants in The Grand Hyatt Melbourne. From the moment of entry, it was nothing but professionalism, and nothing that the staff can do is too much for the staff to make a guest of the hotel feel welcome, and feel like royalty. With a wide selection of fresh pastries, cereals, juices, and bacon and eggs, a choice of a full buffet menu, or A La'Carte the choice of options is endless. I will definitely be dining back there tomorrow morning before my check out
Be the first to ReplyGreat hotel restaurant!
Given many of the other hotels are still restricted in their offering we were very pleased with the food and service. Staff were outstanding. Very attentive. Remembered our names and coffee preferences each day. Very impressive. Breakfast were really great. Lots of choices. We had the NYE buffet which was also great. Not cheap but again lots of great choices. Would stay at the Grand Hyatt just on the service and food @ the Collins kitchen
Be the first to ReplyDo not visit!
What a horrible place... 6 of us had dinner on 6 Jan 22' and it was an embarrassment to me personally as the host when no one had anything good to say about the place. - Limited menu with no entrรฉes or starters; online menu was not the menu at the restaurant! - Food took a very long time to arrive. - Tuna/chicken/steak were all over cooked and rubbery. - Side plates (chips and veg) arrived after we had nearly finished our food. - Service was inadequate and we had to keep asking staff to top up glasses, no one really interacted except for taking the initial order - no extra drinks, didn't ask how the meal was etc. - skipped desert just because of the poor experience and went somewhere else. - Not cheap - we spent close to $90pp, without desert!
Be the first to ReplyDon't bother
The service was terrible the manager was far to important to help guests. A new staff member was obviously not trained properly was he got things wrong. The desserts were disgusting worst I've ever had stale, taste combinations didn't work, coffee used was cheap and bitter. Would not bother again definitely not worth the money
Be the first to ReplyGood poached eggs
We had breakfast here during our stay at the GrandHyatt as breakfast was included in our package. The food was plentiful and well presented (particularly given Covid restrictions). Freshly poached eggs to perfection every time, and the coffee was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible customer service
I booked for a group of 8, a month in advance, for a birthday celebration. I clearly advised at time of booking of a guest with an allergy. Also sent reminders leading up to the date. Less then 24hrs to the booking, the staff member (a team lead) I had been dealing with the entire time sends an email to inform they cannot cater for the allergy and that the person is best not to eat at their restaurant. Appalling customer service. This left me panicking to find a venue, with less than a day and instruct the guests. So disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyWait until the buffet is back
If you are after a quiet but sophisticated lunch spot then Collins Kitchen is for you. Otherwise, give it a miss. The food was fine, but nothing special, and the atmosphere was completely dead due to there being so few diners in. I know that pre-C days that this was a buffet restaurant and I would love to return when it's back to see how different things are. Otherwise I'd prefer to go elsewhere in town.
Be the first to ReplyDonโt waste your time or money.
Donโt waste your time or money. Waited an hour for our food when we finally received it, it was all bought at once entree and mains!! Seasonal vegetables was a plate of broccoli, salmon was dry and overcooked!! Only explanation was that they had a private function so their food was going out first. Bad service bad food.
