Absolutely delicious; a lovely evening
I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a fine dining experience. This meal surpassed anything we’ve had in the last two years: just prior to the pandemic, we travelled to and ate superbly in Melbourne and Penang, Malaysia; our meal at El Tenedor surpassed those meals and anything we’ve had since. We shared two appetizers, one based on scallops and the other using smoked salmon; each was absolutely delicious, w a variety of tasty ingredients, all very flavourful since organic ingredients are typically used. For mains, I enjoyed fish in papillote while my meat-loving spouse savoured his delicious short ribs with a happy smile. There were not a lot of choices, but options did include seafood or fish, vegetarian and the aforementioned red meat treat. Chef Cesar recommended the wine…a full-bodied, balanced Italian that was so delicious….we’ve never had a tastier Primitivo (we drank two bottles lol). Chef surprised us with a special dessert when he heard it was our 28th wedding anniversary. There were only 3 tables being served that night; it was just like a little bistro in the Pyrenees. Our honeymoon was in France. This meal brought us back there. El Tenedor has a little patio where pooches can join but air conditioning seemed to exhaust onto it, making it feel like the south of Spain. We hope to return again soon for another special occasion.

We enjoyed the excellent tasting menu. The soup made us swoon - velvety leek with sundried tomato toasts. And the deliciousness kept coming. Both the chef and the waiter in this small restaurant were attentive and made us feel welcome and at home. I highly recommend this restaurant for outstanding, upscale Spanish / Basque cuisine. We will be back.

This is not a tapas restaurant it is a Basque food restaurant done extremely well most main dishes are $$$$ but well worth it.

I was there with a friend in late December and had the 5 courser tasting menu while the friend had a salad and fish dish. Everything was excellent. The cook obviously prepares the meals with a great deal of care and skill. It's a bit pricey but you won't be disappointed. The location is a bit odd. While it's very central - a couple of blocks from the main Bloor/Yonge subway, it's in a location that doesn't get a lot of foot traffic. Also, it's very small - only a dozen or so capacity. I do hope they'll make a go of it long-term as I'd love to return. The staff was also very courteous and knowledgeable.

This is what excellence tastes like. Top 5 resto in the city. Highly recommended. Unbelievable Basque and Catalan cuisine.

We have eaten at El Tenedor several times before and have always loved Cesar’s creative and innovative dishes. This was our first supper club there and the food was fantastic! Some of the tastiest dishes we have ever eaten. Our friends were blown away. We love this restaurant, and Cesar’s passion for food and welcoming nature make it all the more special. We highly recommend it.

Took my wife to El Tenedor for her birthday - and opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing (one red - one white). The place is truly unique. It's small and cozy. 2 chefs - who are also the wait staff. The food was spectacular. Truly extraordinary without being too precious. We had an amazing time - and the service was out of this world. Cesar clearly has a passion for great food - and it shows.

I don’t usually do reviews of restaurants, but this one deserved it. Didn’t know about this place, but was looking to book a Spanish restaurant near the theatre on Yonge street. What a find it was! 4 of us decided on sharing a few starters(foil gras, squash salad and cured wild salmon) before the mains (duck breast, beef cheeks, Ontario lamb and lentils). There was attention to detail in everything, each dish was superb in every aspect- flavour, texture, presentation. It was every superlative we could think of. Service was top quality too, casual but paced so we never felt rushed or waiting and everyone was super friendly. Chef Cesar came to greet each of us and check in on us. We would have lingered longer and had dessert, but our own rush was to get to our theatre show. Will definitely plan another visit.
