Drake Hotel San Francisco Reviews from The Last Year
Gorgeous Hotel with Excellent Service
The Beacon Grande was everything we expected from this historic hotel. They embodied the grandeur, keeping to their name. Our large room on the 18th floor overlooking Union Square and parts of the city was well appointed with stylish furnishings, a dark blue color painted heavy molding walls that represent the finest taste. The ornate wood trim in our room and throughout the hotel was original to the hotel. The bathroom window was partially operable to allow fresh air and a small peek out. The window is large, letting in sunlight. The brass fixtures throughout the bathroom lend to the room’s posh feel. The Cable Cars run in front of the building headed towards China town and last stop at Fishermen’s Wharf. Hopefully you get lucky to catch a car with two mannerable operators. Our last ride was most pleasant. Both operators stopped in the intersections to allow for photos of some iconic streets. They sure work hard to brake and get the car going. We had dinner and breakfast at The Post restaurant. The food was delicious and service was excellent. The original windows are still in place. The fireplace is grand and the deco is in keeping with the original design I’m sure was on the minds of those in 1928. The lobby, the rooms, the halls, the Starlight club and The Post can take your imagination back to opening day. My husband and I imagined the number of elites that walked into the grand entrance, stayed in the hotel and lounged in the Starlight on the 21st floor. The hotel is romantic. It is the perfect place to celebrate an anniversary, like my husband and I did. We highly recommend The Beacon Grande for couples.
Lovely Chic Hotel
Stay at the Beacon Grand hotel was wonderful. Very cute chic room that was very clean and well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. If staying or in the area of this hotel, a stop at the top level bar lounge, Starlite, is an absolute MUST!!!
5 Stars Every Time!
I have been staying at the Beacon Grand for a couple years now and I keep coming back for the location, staff, bar & restaurant and very clean and comfy rooms. The entire staff is very kind and accommodating. It's a quick walk to BART and there is shopping and nice restaurants everywhere. I love staying here!
Great hotel, great location
Really nice historic hotel with a great locations, very well furnished rooms and great staff. The rooftop bar is also very nice!
A Classic in SF
A classice hotel with accouterments to match. Great drinks at the Post Room and Starlite, on the rooftop, is a special place and hot spot. Great Hotel!
A grand hotel!
Really is a grand hotel! Lovely, comfy rooms with all the mod cons but with the added history. Excellent location right by Union square and a healthy 30 mins walk to pier 39, just pack walking shoes! Good eateries nearby but starlight lounge on 21st floor has some amazing views as well as yummy cocktails!
Great location!
Love the recent remodel and great location near Union Square and walking distance to Chinatown. Rooms and bathrooms are small as this is historic hotel, previously Sir Francis Drake but rooms are Stylish and Clean. Some city noise like police or ambulance and the streetcars run on Powell, but didn’t bother us. Doorman keeps property exclusive.
History, Location, and Killer Bar/Restaurant
Beautiful old (but completely tastefully renovated) half a block from Union Square. Rooms quite nice, bar drinks and scene upscale and fun. Absolutely stunned by how good the food/menu was-there is a chef as passionate and talented as any other in the City-star(s) or no star!
Superb location and ambiance
This was a return trip for us to Beacon and there is a reason why. The location is excellent, just up from Union Square and directly on a trolley line. The ambiance is amazing, and the hotel is gorgeous! You will not be disappointed in the vaulted ceilings and vintage features in this historic building. The lobby bar Post Room has a stunning high ceiling, fireplace, paneling, and features live piano music. The drinks are excellent and the bartender Edwin was engaging and personable. The hotel rooms feature a very comfortable king size bed and have ample room, even in a standard. My only suggestion might be earplugs if street noise is bothersome. I actually enjoy the trolley dings, but my husband does not. The hotel staff was welcoming and helpful. You can text with the hosts to ask questions or make requests during your stay. Every employee we encountered was friendly, offered suggestions of things to do in the area, and helped to facilitate transportation as needed.
Enjoyable stay
Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location. Easy access to all SF. Room was clean and comfortable.
Classic elegance.
First time visit after the COVID-era renovation of this hotel. Classic elegance. Wish i had been there on the weekend so I could have visited the Starlight Room. Next time…..
Great hotel and experience
Superb location, and a beautifully restored hotel. It’s wonderful to see character hotels looked after and managed well. We loved the rooftop bar and the rooms and shared areas were well appointed with tasteful decor and soft furnishings. The concierge Laith was a real gentleman and very knowledgeable and helpful. We appreciated his recommendations.
Just what we needed!
The staff was easy to talk to and helped us with exactly what we asked. Very grateful for their service.
Nostalgia visit.
Old but charming. Very small room, Great view of SF from the Star Light Room. Great location for walking the city. We enjoyed our stay.
Comfortable and centrally located Hotel - fantastic Bar on Floor 21 with views
Room was a little smaller than we were expecting based on our 2 Hotel stays immediately preceding this one, in San Diego & LA, but the Hotel facilities are good and if staying (or even if not staying) highly recommend visiting their fabulous roof-top Bar (Floor 21) with great views across the City. Good location right near Macy's and Saks - we walked from the Hotel to Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, and to a Trolley car stop. Great little breakfast cafe opposite Hotel's main entrance - Sears - recommend for American Diner style breakfasts.
Beautiful, Grand hotel
Beautiful, grand hotel. Receptionists friendly and polite. The room was beautifully decorated and had everything you needed. We really enjoyed our stay as hotel was central to all the ‘touristy’ sites. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars was due to the rude woman on the starlite room reception. We were told to go up and have a look at the view. We decided we would have a drink once there. Upon arrival we were told “You can look but not sit!” I was totally taken back by this. She was very rude and totally unprofessional. We decided to leave. This then but a dampener on the evening.
Highly recommended!
I visited this hotel for a business trip and I had a great experience. The location is really good with pharmacies, restaurants, bars, and a park all around the hotel. In addition, is very close to the Moscone Centre, walking distance to Chinatown, among other interesting locations. The facilities are well maintained, the hotel has a good bar and the service is really good.
Beautiful, Comfortable & Friendly!
The hotel was absolutely stunning! The pictures do not do it justice. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, and the hotel location was easy for food to be delivered if you opt out of eating at the hotel (which you should at least once during your stay!) Also, the staff were very friendly. We had a couple requests and the hotel staff did their absolute best to accommodate. I would definitely recommend for business or personal travel. Next time me and my husband are in the area, we will be looking to stay there again. Very satisfied with our experience.

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
