Worth the stop, but stop in early!
Quick service, lots of doughnut options and they were absolutely the best doughnuts I’ve ever had. My favorite was the almond old fashioned. It was like a Dutch letter doughnut. I want to go back!

10/10 for both donuts and coffee. Now I have consumed many donuts and coffee in my life but this has gone down as my favorite so far. I did arrive around 11am and there were only a few flavors remaining but none the less I purchased 4 donuts (2 - Buttermilk Old Fashioned, 1 - Lemon Poppy Seed, and 1 - Almond) as well as a black coffee. The donuts are super delicious, light but dense. the flavors are not over powering and just the right amount. The coffee was the perfect flavor wish I could have a larger cup! I will definitely back again but much earlier in the morning to try some other donut flavors!

Doughnut Vault is a must-try for any donut lover in Chicago. The donuts are small but mighty, with unique flavors and textures.
Be the first to ReplyDoughnuts. Eat them.
We stopped at the Doughnut Vault for breakfast on a rainy morning during our Chicago trip. This was featured in a book 101 Things to Do in Chicago and it did not lead us astray. We got a box with a few types of donuts, including the classic glazed, gingerbread trio, chocolate, and chai flavors. Every single one was 10/10. Their inside area for ordering is very small so only one or two parties can go inside at a time but they do have a pickup window outside for those who ordered ahead. They also have a few tables to sit and eat outside. We loved our Doughnut Vault breakfast and would highly recommend it!

Wow! Donuts the size of your head! What’s not to like?? I’ve been a couple times and they have different options on different days. I can say I haven’t had a bad one! Also a fun experience! :)

Be the first to ReplyYummy donuts in a "hole-in-the-wall"
Don't let the shabby "hole-in-the-wall" appearance discourage you! This place serves great donuts. I had the chocolate donut and it was really delicious! Look for the day's specials, since they are very tempting. Usually there are long lines in the morning, so the recommendation is to arrive early, before the donuts are sold out. I was lucky that a major event was happening in the town (the Chicago Marathon), so the line was exceptionally short.

The doughnut are hand made daily. Check out the flavors of the day. They sell out fast but you can reserve any number of doughnuts on line and they will be there for pick up. Eat immediately!!
Be the first to ReplyHole in the wall with a line down the street
Awesome donuts and decent coffee. The place is small but had a line down the street. Watch for the rotating specials. The Mexican hot chocolate donut was unbelievably good.

Had a donut from this shop while I was on a donut tour of Chicago. The Black and White was my favorite donut. So fluffy and the icing was awesome. Be warned. Apparently they make a single batch and when they sell out, they close for the day. Today they sold out at 9:30am! And the shop is just a tiny little hole in the wall, literally. But donuts were great. Others had the iced coffee which they said was good.

Cute little donut place sort of off the beaten path but very popular! Friendly staff. Found this place while on the Donut Tour which you must take while in Chicago!

The inside is a small hallway and very tight. Only a few people can go in at a time. Inside it’s simple but beautiful. The doughnuts are fresh and when they’re out, they’re out. Go early if you are going on a weekend. We tried the chocolate glazed, old fashioned, and pride cake doughnut. Best cake doughnut I have ever had. Delicious!

.[6/25/2022] last day in Chicago. A quick stop along my running route post-breakfast. A hole-in-the-wall spot, with a small counter and one server behind it. Friendly guy, no line, all doughnuts in stock at 8:15 on a grey Saturday morning.
I got a Glazed Vanilla and a Pistachio Old Fashioned, both to go. There were several tables set up curbside along Franklin. I chose to run back to my hotel area (Loop) and ate them beside the Picasso sculpture at the Daley Center. Both very good - I’d go back again!
YUMMY!!
Doughnut Vault has great donuts. Be warned though, they are HUGE, so order wisely! LOL! We went for a traditional vanilla glazed yeast doughnut and it was delicious!

This place is very average, I live a block away. I had the seasonal filled donut. It was good, but not worth the ridiculous prices.
My wife got some other chocolate donut that was not very good.
The donuts aren’t even made fresh here
Hidden Jewel
Plan to be in line early and you may miss out of they run out but these are some amazing donuts and def a part of Chi Town experience!

The line goes around the building but moves quickly. The gingerbread stack are a must. The apple fritters are great as are the cookies and cream. I don’t think there’s a bad donut in the place. The yeast are layered awesomeness.
Be the first to ReplyNo line means they are closed or out of donuts!
The shop is an old bank vault, hence the name. The menu is very limited as are the hours and the space to purchase donuts and coffee. It opens at a certain hour depending on the day and closes when it sells out. Usually before early afternoon. The vendor is behind a window with a rack of donuts and pots of coffee in a five by eight-foot space. There is enough room for three to five customers inside the “lobby”. Anyone else is outside standing in a line that usually wraps around the corner.
We ordered several different donuts. The special of the day was “birthday cake”. A white Fun-Fetti donut with chocolate frosting and sprinkles on top. It was actually the best one that day. We also got the famous buttermilk donuts, apple fritters and a raspberry filled one. We were fortunate to get a sidewalk table and sat to enjoy the quest for a sugar coma.
Bring your patience! It's worth every minute waited...
I love crullers!!!!!
I love crullers and this was the best ever! They call it a buttermilk donut. Thick crusty and so tasty . If you get six donuts you get some donut holes . The holes are huge.
