Hi there
From my impression the Food from south of our border is becoming more and more popular, a simple observation, and that is fine it’s delicious and nutritious.
This review is mainly about DOS URBAN CANTINA but it will include a comparison with two other Taquerias that I frequented this time.
So Ándale
As you enter the kitchen is in front of you and you can choose to sit along the bar or along the wall facing the bar, at the hour I arrived I Chad the choice of the bar and so I did.
The restaurant is specious is clean and safe to sit-in with the proper mesures for social distancing.
The bartender Dylan friendly, drops the menue and immediately brings a pitcher of water, asks me what do I drink I choose. Shoot of Herradura Anejo ( apparently in the 10 most drinkable Tequila now, I learned about it From another place I like Broken English in the loop)
An observation and as I said comparison to other establishments I frequented.
The shot of Tequila was served in a glass and the water in a plastic cup ( I guess do to the pandemic, or no dishwasher at the time of visit) both Broken English and Cruz Blanca serve water or water from glass.
Along the food I chooses ( patience ) I chosen top shelf tequila margarita( their named the margarita, and I had a craving, besides what else goes with Tacos) very smooth to bad it was in a plastic cup.
The food
Guacamole with chips as a starter :
A nice amount of Guacamole with onion and cilantro on the top, fresh avocado delicious again served in plastic, guys I’m not in a picnic, ample nachos fresh and crispy.
Now here it comes Neither Broken English or Cruz Blanca come close to this guacamole, although it was served in small clay dish in both places it was crowded with unnecessary pickled veggies like radish and so on, the avocado didn’t do such an impression neither taste or freshness.
This is to say plastic dish or not when it’s fresh it’s good never mind how it’s served.
Tacos
They have a choice of six types I had 3 types:
Fish
Chicken
Carne Asada, all 3 are recommended at any time of the day especially when you are hungry.
I will not go deep over ingredients, I’m not a food critic and not familiar with all the jargon etc,
All I have to say the fish taco was excellent ( I’m a carne asada aficionado) This taco is to die for.
So it’s my first choice, success.
Than I moved to the Carne asada well it had black beans in it and to my opinion it’s to much I love black beans and it’s always preferred on pinto beans but not in a taco as a side yes. It fills you to much.
The meat was not so warm and a little to dry but tasty I will ask for it but ask them not to over do it and next time I will ask it just with cilantro and onion my preferred choice.
At Broken English I always ask it only with cilantro and onion, this time it was a little over done they are in the last place regarding the Carne Asada tacos.
Cruz Blanca serves the tacos like fajitas style and it’s fun to make your own tacos on the table, I guess it’s a question of taste.
Their meat was the best in all the 3 places the serve the tacos with Spring onions and poblano peppers that they grilled.
So Cruz Blanca first place, Dos Urban Cantina second & Broken English third as it goes for Carne Asada.
As for the third kind of taco at Dos Urban Cantina, it was chicken , the chicken melted in the mouth it had jalapeño peppers in it and a sauce that I don’t remember now but all fell in place one more success, order it.
At Dos Urban Cantina Fish, chicken and than Carne Asada.
An observation Mexican food is a hip now or always was who cares THE PRICES FOR THE INGREDIENTS YOU SERVE IS TO HIGH !
In general the prices are high for this food in all 3 places.
Although I received a good explanation as why the 20% is included and that I don’t have to pay it, know one thing rewarding or leaving a tip for good service is a choice you don’t add it to the bill, whatever the reason is.
I left it there do to the service, and the reason of it, but it’s a little embarrassing to refuse when it’s presented like this and the service was fast and good.
Any how enjoy and eat tacos they health add Tequila !
