This reservation was difficult to get, however my hotel
This reservation was difficult to get, however my hotel concierge was able to get a 7pm for me. A very large crowd of people outside, and when you check in, the hostess gives you a glass of Chandon champagne. Seated outside immediately, tables were extremely close, chairs not too comfortable. Food- ordered the Prime Rib Steak ($59,300 pesos = $70) and fries. The steak was gristly, fatty and still very tough. The price of this steak was way overpriced since I don't think this was prime beef - very disappointed in this meal. Service - very efficient for my table, However, the waiter overcharged the people next to me, and instead of 2 glasses of Malbec they charged for 2 bottles of Malbec. When the guys next to me had me examine their bill, I brought it up to the waiter and he looked surprised that I caught this error, they reversed the charge, all is good, but we all decided that the hype was too much for this restaurant, the prices were outrageous and this place is pretty much one and done.

The best steak in Buenos Aires! The outdoor seating is great during late summertime. And the champagne flutes while waiting for seats are a very welcoming touch.
Be the first to ReplyJust didn't live up to hype.
Went to 3 other steakhouses in Argentina (1 in Buenos Aires and 2 in El Calafete) and all were better. Service was really slow also.
Be the first to Replywell, everyone in Buenos Aires (and around the world) knows
well, everyone in Buenos Aires (and around the world) knows the hype around the (one) Michelin-starred Don Julio. Locals tend to complain that it's an overpriced tourist trap, but at the same time begrudgingly admit that it's an outstanding experience. This is my third trip to BA, and I finally made it. And it's totally worth it. We came for lunch thinking it might be easier to get a reservation and we wouldn't be compelled to eat too much haha. When you arrive they give you a glass of bubbly and if you're there without a reservation (they take walk-ins) they keep refilling your glass so you'll be nice and toasty when you get seated. The service is outstanding, and the restaurant is gorgeous inside. Some nice quiet wood paneled rooms and other larger seating areas. When seated they bring you an excellent mini-empanada and a beautiful heirloom tomato with olive oil and salt that they quarter at the table. But you're here for the steak, and I have to admit, that of all the steak dinners I've had in BA (literally dozens) the meat here is on another level. Perfection. It's pricey, so prepare yourself. for two people, splitting one steak, two sides and one dessert and no alcohol (easily one meal for one person but it was lunch so we ate half the normal amount) it was $100 USD, which by NYC or SF prices is cheap but here it's way beyond the price of other great steakhouses. But also absolutely worth every peso (ha!) and I will probably come back again (and again).

Try to get a reservation - definitely worth a visit! We tried a few months in advance to get a dinner reservation, but even on a waitlist, no luck. So we tried showing up when they opened at 11:30am for lunch and got in! SO glad we did! The experience was so lovely and every detail was spot on. Food was fantastic. Staff was kind and attentive. Great wine selection. When we had a small issue at our table, they took us on a brief tour of the wine cellar while they fixed the table. A nice touch. Try the Prime Rib here - Medium Rare. And the Heirloom tomato salad is refreshing and perfect.

Definitely a fantastic meal. Impeccable service. Highly recommended. Wonderful ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyWhile in Argentina and Chile we ate a lot of steak.
We could not leave without trying Don Julio which is touted to be the best steak restaurant in the world. We made a reservation for a group of 4 a month before and I would recommend that you don't miss this place. We were seated outside but it was a cool evening and were seated under a covered area in case of rain. Champagne was served and complimentary to start the night. We ordered two rib eyes, One Fillet Mignon, and Short Ribs. All of them were outstanding and far superior to the steaks we had eaten at other restaurants on our trip. Definitely try any side dish with tomatoes, another. The salads were dressed perfectly. The waiter was super helpful and help us select wines for our meal. Don't miss dessert... we got two to share. We made a mistake though. There was a tomato tasting menu (menu in the pics). I thought it was a vegetarian option. When I looked at it more carefully when I got home I thought, Damn, We should have done this- The price point and opportunity to try many small bites would have been amazing... Oh well, a good excuse to go back to Buenos Aires!

Don Julio is often considered the best steak house in the world. It's expressed in every bite of food, on the ambiance of the rooms, and the accessability for vegetarians. They don't just provide food, they provide a wonderful experience. The steaks are the stars of the show. You can order most cuts if beef from ribeye to flank, ribs to t bones. They're savory, succulent, and perfectly cooked. There's even a menu focusing on tomatoes. A four course tomato based menu features tomato complimented by different cuts of meat each time. It's a wonderful way to express their creativity in a unique way for a steak house. Vegetarians will love it here. There's a full vegetarian side dish menu in addition to a four course tomato menu without meat. This is truly a restaurant for everyone...if you can get a reservation. The best way to do that is by texting their WhatsApp number directly, not by using their website - although either works. Sit inside if you can. Outside can get hot or drippy in the rain. Plus inside you can watch the dishes being prepared, or maybe be seated in the tomato room. That room is covered in tomatoes on the vine decorating walls and chandeliers. The only improvements that could be made here are in the wait staff. Some team members are pretty soft spoken or too passive. That aside, the empanadas are delicious, the steaks are wonderful, and having so many vegetarian options sets this establishment apart.

This is a steakhouse you don't want to miss when you are in Buenos Aires. We were lucky enough to get reservations for two different days while we were in town. We also got to try many different dishes as we shared all the dishes family style. My favorite steak out of the four we tried was the flank steak. The most tender was the tenderloin. My husband loved the rib eye and tomahawk steak. The heirloom tomato salads we amazing. We also liked the grilled zucchini. The French fries were so crispy and delicious. My dad loved the ice cream. We tried a lot of dishes and they were all excellent. Try to get reservations a month in advance and get on their early access reservations. If you don't, they did allow walk ins, but you may have to wait for a while. We sat outside the first time and sat inside the second time. We loved watching them grill. Excellent experience!
Be the first to ReplyNo wonder it is in the top 5 restaurants in Latin America.
We made reservations more than a month in advance, we were a party of 5, so couldn't take any chances. While waiting to be seated we were welcomed with complimentary champagne to toast for one of the best meals in town. We ordered 3 different types of meat or "Cortes" all of which were delicious. I'm not sure you can go wrong with any, but if you ask me for my favourite I'll definitely say el vacio. We got help from the waiter to pair or meal with wine and then got lucky enough to be invited to visit the wine cellar and get a small private tour. Make sure you make room for dessert as you need to try their ice cream!
Be the first to ReplySteak! Steak! Steak! Don Julio, in the Palermo
Steak! Steak! Steak! Don Julio, in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, is ranked the number #1 restaurant in Latin America and number #14 in the world! And steak and great service and an awesome atmosphere are the reasons. When you arrive at Don Julio, you may have to wait a little while for a table, even with a reservation, but you are given a glass of champagne to help pass the time. There is indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside on a beautiful late summer afternoon. Beef is about the only food on the menu and they serve 10 different cuts. You can also have appetizers of empanadas and charcuterie and organ meats. For 2 of us we ordered the charcuterie and then a rib eye and a strip steak plus an order of patas fritas. After ordering, a wait person returned and told us she thought we ordered too much food and that we should get one piece of meat and share it (the cuts are 500 grams, or over a pound each). She also said the rib eye was better than the strip steak on that day. So that's what we did and it was excellent. Their version of charcuterie was 3 different sausages cut up for us at the table. Superb. We had a glass of rose to start and then a bottle of Argentinian Malbec. If you are into beef, this is the place to go!
Be the first to ReplyI am not a steak person, but this is Argentina.
So it's a must. Take a look at the wine cellar downstairs. Their tomato display. The inside seating and the meat production in the kitchen. You'll be blown away. Do not miss the Morcilla and the Mollejas. Pick a steak to share. I love eggplant. THEIR eggplant was one of the best I've ever had in my life. Superb service. Unmatched!!!

Great service by Natasha!!! The beef is good, but nothing special. We get better at Miami. The Provoleta de Cabra is truly special. The grilled Pumpkin is something different, but needed more grilling. The Bife Vacío is OK, not bad, huge, but just OK. The Sommelier's recommendation of the Semillones wine was good although a bit bitter for wife (she prefers Chenin Blanc). The Almond ice cream is different and OK. Again, we had a great time because of the Server, Ms Natasha, but food was just OK.
Be the first to ReplyMy friend made two reservations for this restaurant,
My friend made two reservations for this restaurant, can't believe her enthusiasm for the steaks of this restaurant. We ordered Entreco, in the first night. Even it was not over our expectations, but it showed its level. In the second day, we tried the prime rib, no surprise. We also tried all of desserts in the menu, just confirming this is just a steak house--not worth ordering the desserts. I only gave 4 stars to its steaks, but add one star for its tomato starter and sweetbread, really delicious! Good service, but need to review the check very carefully--they might add extra charge in it
Be the first to ReplyBased on reviews, my family came here around 3:45pm.
We could not get a reservation so decided to come for a late lunch. I did get a glass of free champagne and that was nice. We ordered 2 steaks for the 3 of us. That was too much. We wanted to order one but the waiter suggested another. We ate 1/3 of our steaks. I am not sure if people just eat more here but that was a lot of food. I also felt terrible throwing food away. We loved the eggplant dish. It was different and I love eggplants anyways. If you like eggplants, you should try it. The free bread was great. My kid loved the coke because it was in a bottle. He said it is made with real sugar cane. My husband and I shared Malbec. My recommendation would be to order less and enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyDoes not disappoint, even as highly hyped as it is.
Huge steaks, two people will take some home. Excellent service from Tamara.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for my birthday dinner.
Overall, they have amazing food but the service could be better. We didn't have a reservation and was only a party of 2. We arrived at 8pm and weren't seated until 12:50am, right before they closed. Seems like they do not like small parties, because all of the larger parties that arrived after us without reservations were seated before us. Even a women who was expecting waited almost the entire time with us! Felt terrible they made her wait that long. Luckily there was a place for her to sit down. On the plus side, there is free champagne (with unlimited refills) and the best empanadas while you wait to be seated. Tenderloin (medium rare) order was my favorite. So tender, seasoned, and cooked to perfection. After your meal you can find taxi drivers waiting for passengers out front. Highly recommend reservations or arriving with a LARGE party. Oh, don't pester the host, seemed like that would only lower your chances of getting a table.

One of the best steaks I had in Argentina! Coming from New York, I would say that the NY steak is different from here and probably cannot be compared to each other. But they are both good in their own ways. The empanada, salad and even the special tomato eere delicious here. The waiters were friendly, attentive and quick to service. If I visit Buenos Aires again, I'll definitely stop by.Oh I forgot to mention, they gave all the people waiting outside free champagne!!!
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, and great overall experience.
We didn't have a reservation, so we had to wait. They gave out champagne, and empanadas while we waited. Great touch. Ojo de Bife and the sides were amazing.... Big portions of meat.
Be the first to ReplyIf Argentina is beef country then Don Julio is the beef
If Argentina is beef country then Don Julio is the beef capital. So many thick cuts to choose from. We ordered one ribeye to share plus a few sides thinking we should eat so much red meat. We left wanting more meat not because portion is small. It's just so tender and flavorful. Make reservation before you come to BA. It's the top restaurant in Argentina and you don't want to pass. Definitely order the dulce de leche ice cream. It'd complete your trip to BA
Be the first to ReplyTHE LEGENDARY Don Julio!! 2020 Best Restaurant in Latin
THE LEGENDARY Don Julio!! 2020 Best Restaurant in Latin America. I was hesitant to come here, because 1. I expected it to be a tourist trap and 2. I noticed that a lot of "popular" restaurants has lowered in quality after the pandemic. That was not the case with Don Julio, I had an AMAZING meal!We came Thursday at ~3:30PM (right at the end of lunch) and were immediately seated outside with no reservations. We did not feel cold because the outdoor heaters were powerful and the tables had blankets we covered our legs with.We ordered a red blend wine, mashed potatoes, French fries, pumpkin, and three steaks: Filet Mignon (Lomo), Ojo De Bife, Asado.Everything from the olive oil to the meats to the complementary pre-meal empanada was delicious. A few "not-so-great" parts of an otherwise fantastic meal: Our plates were a bit dirty, so we asked the server to change them out. He just took them to his booth, wiped them, and gave them back to us. Ick. But I guess this must be normal in Argentina?Unfortunately they no longer serve non-red meat entrees (no chicken or seafood!). My sister had to order the pumpkin appetizer, which wasn't very good.Even with those minor complaints, Don Julio was one of my favorite meals in Buenos Aires. It is at the top of my "must visit' list next time I travel back.
Be the first to ReplyWe had an incredible experience.
World-class service world-class ambience world class beef. Even the vegetarian at our table was happy. And the wine collection is otherworldly. even had a tour of the wine cellars. Must go!!!!
Be the first to ReplyPretty good steaks.
We went late on a Monday night with no reservation. We were told at least an hours wait, but within 10 minutes were seated.
Be the first to ReplySuper recommended parrilla in Buenos Aires.
Go there for the flank steak! It is expensive, and there's better alternatives for less money, but that one cut makes it worth
Be the first to ReplyI'm so happy.
This was one of the best meals I had in Buenos Aires. The experience was amazing and I can't rave enough about the bife de ojos, mashed potatoes and Malbec. Absolutely try to dine here if you're in BA. I went on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch without a reservation and was seated right away.
