Nice ambiance and service but the food is mediocre to less than that
The artichoke appetizer was very ample but I thought it would be made of fresh, roasted artichokes, unfortunately they were marinated or canned or pickled. The mussels were almost raw, tasteless and cold. The gnocchi was made from an era of people who don’t know what real gnocchi tastes like, a little dumpling just flipped off the fork that has just the right size to absorb the sauce. The sauce was marginal. The meatball was awful. The veal was the best part of the dinner. Just stopped in for a good meal and left dissatisfied enough to write a review, which I almost never do.

Went for take out on a Sunday. They were crowded but that was no excuse for the awful take out steak that I ordered Medium Rare. The Steak was over done, not cut and seemed like mostly Bone and fat. I ended up treating my Golden Retrievers. The bread that I ordered tasted like it had been baked in the morning. The worst part was the no response to my email addressing this issue after 72 hours. My money spends equally well elsewhere so I will not be going back.

We made a reservation a week in advance. Heard good things about DiAnoia's and finally had a chance to go. We started with the house salad and bread. Wow, both were great. You can definitely share the salad if you wanted to. We also got the cacio e pepe and the rigatoni with braised beef pasta. Wow, we really enjoyed both. We had leftovers of each so we got to enjoy a second time. We did not think it was loud as someone else commented and it was packed. I definitely would recommend.

Great Food. Great service. As vegetarians we were thrilled that they put effort into making a couple of vegetable dishes extraordinary. The sauce for the carrot app was amazing. The bread and the desserts are to die for.

Place your name on the waiting list, you will not regret it!!! Sat at the bar & received the best service. Meatballs as an appetizer. Cacio de Pepa for our meal. Will be back to order the fresh bread as it looked amazing!

Drinks were ok , beans and greens had a lot of flavor but not many greens 😕. Shrimp with capellini was very bland and I can swear the shrimp were already precooked and tossed into pasta😖.Sauce was ok ,meatballs were meaty ,gnocchi were good. Menu is ala cart , salad is extra, baked dough “ Bread “ was good for 9 dollars extra . You do not get a basket of bread for the table. The most annoying park of that two hour meal , service was very slow on a busy weekday nite and very very very loud in dining area. There is sound absorbing panels on walls , but at no avail. Bring earplugs, sad but true.

Always wanted to come here when visiting family but could never a get a reservation. I can see why. We came early and were able to snag a few bar seats. Our bartender /server was stellar. The food was absolutely delicious - we had a couple of salads, escarole, beans and sausage appetizer and entrees; chicken cacciatore, agnello all'amatriciana, and the branzino, all outstanding. The bread looked and smelled heavenly, alas, I'm gluten free but others partook. The menu is limited as a previous reviewer noted - this is always a good thing at any restaurant in my experience. They do less and do it well.

Most of the Trip Advisor and Google reviews were pretty good for this establishment, but our experience was extremely underwhelming. The portions here are decent sized so we split a house salad- it was good, but nothing remarkable; the dressing was way too heavy for our tastes and the greens were soaked. My wife and I split the cinghiale e fungi and little did we know that the dish was alfredo (it only stated it included "herb cream" - we missed that part!) and dripping in a thick goo of cheese sauce with meatballs and a few mushrooms. In all the years of dining in Italian restaurants, I can't recall ever having meatballs in a cheese sauce. Ugh! Mea culpa! Additionally, the meatballs were not tender. The menu here is very limited and we sat in the bar area, which was fortunate, since the main dining area is extremely loud with horrible reverb. All in all, I would not return since this is definitely did not come close to meeting my benchmark for good Italian dining.

It took a while to get booed but it was worth the wait!! We all loved the cocktails, food and service! Arrived on a rainy night and got out table right away. We had a show to attend to so we had some cocktails first. The amaro flights were superb. The bread and pasta was excellent and we had enough for another meal the next day!
Be the first to ReplyTrouble getting a table for 7!!!!
Decided to bring our UPitt daughter and friends for dinner. After struggling to get parking we were told we will get a table in 20 minutes. After waiting 20 minutes at the entry door (couple of feet away from people trying to eat their dinner!!), we were told they don’t have a table even though they couple have seated us by combining a couple of empty 4 seaters next to each other. When asked how long, I was told “soon”…. Don’t bother coming here in a large group especially if you are not Caucasian!

First visit, traveling to Pittsburgh for some sight seeing. Tough to park. Arrived at 10:50 AM, only breakfast item was an egg sandwich with minimal “fixings”. Wait staff was plentiful but pretty generic. Place was fairly empty in spite of great ratings on YELP. Eggs came 7 minutes prior to fried potatoes. Food was ok but nothing memorable. Maybe dinner is better. We sat at the bar and behind the bar it was dirty. Surprised they pass health inspection. Wouldn’t recommend.

Excellent, very casual, restaurant with very authentic Italian food. Our house salads were excellent as were the gnocchi with meatballs and a pasta dish (forgot the name) with a red sauce that had Italian sausage in it. We were running late, called to let them know (yes, another accident on the parkway) but made it a minute or so before we said to expect us. We were greeted like we were regulars with a happy "Glad you made it." Good service.

Went for Sunday brunch. Arrived around 1pm. Nice crowd but no wait for a table. Simple menu but not simple food. We had zeppole (powder sugared cake donut holes), caprese frittata and cacio di peppe with broccoli. Enjoyed everything. Also saw lots of amazing looking french toast with berries, eggs benedict with spinach and prosciutto & breakfast pizza. The staff were all friendly and efficient. Will go back & try other meals.

We thought we’d try a new restaurant for lunch. It was a late lunch around 2:15 pm. We were 1 of 3 customers in the restaurant when we sat down. Despite 7+ employees in visible sight not a single one greeted us, said hello or asked to help us in anyway. The instruction on the hostess stand says to grab a menu & then walk up to the counter to place your order. We ordered 2 entrees & 2 drinks. We were served our entrees before we received our ice teas all the while all 7 employees stood around talking to themselves. I walked up to the bar & asked for a refill on the ice tea. The first ice tea was all ice and the waitress gave me a nasty look when I asked her not to add any more ice. BTW their ice tea is kept in the frig & already cold the glass didn’t need to be 90% ice. In the end the food was ok although my wife’s pasta dish was swimming in sauce. My entree was pricey for the portion size. We will NEVER return. The entire staff showed an incredible lack of any customer service skills….. all 7 that were in clear sight the entire time we were there.

This restaurant was recommended on a Pitt parent page and it was fabulous! The unique entrees (gnocchi with pumpkin sauce served in a pumpkin or gnocchi with meatballs in a bread bowl) add a fun twist to the delicious fare. The entrees are huge! The pasta was cooked to perfection and the red sauce tasted like my grandmother’s recipe. Reservations open 6 weeks in advance. This is a don’t miss!

This is a casual restaurant with average Italian food. My family got the chicken cacciatora which was tasty but had a small amount of chicken. I got the cannelloni which was good. I enjoyed the red sauce. The overall impression was irritating. This is a small restaurant with few tables. You can not hear the person next to you due to the high sound level! It ruined the whole dining experience.-
