Amazing
Came to Belfast mainly (solely) for Alex Greene and it did not disappoint. From moment one the whole experience was excellent. Dishes were changed to our circumstances and the whole menu was incredible. Staff were very helpful. A wonderful evening and even got to thank the chef personally which was lovely. If you are debating a visit, book it!

Just had the set lunch menu at Deanes and it was amazing! From the aperitif to the digestif and every mouthful of food in between it was a taste sensation. The staff were really welcoming, the wine pairings were perfect and head chef Alex Greene came round for a chat. I highly recommend spending an afternoon here.

What can I say! By far the best food I have ever had I think this place is very underrated with just the 1 Michelin star. Food is incredible and worth every single penny. I would highly recommend the wine pairing as the semillion is very knowledgeable.

Exceeded our high expectations! Service was friendly, atmosphere was relaxed and not stuffy, wine list was very reasonably priced and the food was absolutely delicious as well as being as pretty as a picture. We ate the surprise menu for Saturday lunch plus the Incredible Edible book and it was brilliant!

Starter had lovely flavours and the main was nicely cooked but the dessert was below average in terms of both flavours and presentation.

We hadn’t booked a table and called in by chance. Feeling very lucky to be seated by the manager we were looking forward to dinner. With Deans having such a good reputation, I opted for their “recommended “wine thinking it would be a safe choice. This turned out to be very disappointing and , out of character, we didn’t even finish the bottle. Our first course, and the bread, were excellent. We had the parfait, smooth, rich and delicious. My husband had the short rib , very disappointing. Dry and quite tasteless. I had the chicken and being a reasonable cook myself, I couldn’t quite understand what they did to it to achieve such a strange rubbery texture ? From feeling so fortunate to get a table, we were then so disappointed. I’ve eaten lunch in Dean’s before and it was a lovely experience. We are both “ foodies” and had high expectations, based on the reputation of this restaurant. The staff were very professional and polite. Based on this experience, I would not return to Deans.

We visited this restaurant to take advantage of the lunch offer which was two courses for £28. It has a spacious and luxurious interior. As you would expect in this type of restaurant, there was an extensive wine list which included some reasonably priced bottles of wine. Even though I’m not particularly fond of mushrooms, the first course which was made entirely of mushrooms, was absolutely excellent. The main course, pork dish, was good but did not reach the standard of the starter. To finish we enjoyed coffee with some very good Petti fours. We would definitely visit again.

Just called to book a table and I could hear it was quite noisy in their restaurant however the girl who answered my call was abrupt and abrasive to me not at all what I was expecting as I have been a customer of Deanes for many years I told her how underwhelmed I was and now presently I am dining in another restaurant. I know Berts would never treat a paying in these times that way. Very surprised and disappointed as the girls we know from deanes are amazing

I saved this for my last night in Belfast and I’m so glad that I did! I’m a fan of the Great British Menu and Alex Greene’s Incredible Edible Book was a real standout dish from the show, when I saw it was on offer here I knew I had to go. I was not disappointed. I opted for the tasting menu with a full wine pairing and have to say that I enjoyed every mouthful of the food, particularly the mushroom tart. In terms of the wine each was paired perfectly to the dish, not only that but I was told something about each and why it was paired with the dish which added to the experience. Each dish was perfectly crafted and well balanced and when you eat solo you can’t help but notice other tables’ food coming out and they all looked exactly the same. I was told the edible book is normally offered to groups as a sharer after the tasting menu but I couldn’t not have it as it was what had drawn me there in the first place! I polished it off no bother and I’m not ashamed of it! Now my mam is a massive fan of Alex so I asked the FOH manager if Alex would sign the piece menu with the Book on which he said would not be a problem and true to his word he got it signed - he did make it out to Kate instead of Helen though but we won’t hold it against him ;) In all this place is definitely worth a visit if you are looking to splash out, receive excellent service, eat excellent food and sample some of the best produce that the local area has to offer. Cannot recommend enough!

This was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. Service was welcoming and excellent from start to finish. The tasting menu had sublime flavours, perfectly complemented by the matching wines. Worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplySo so disappointing
Sat Aug 6th we had the tasting menu. It really was so disappointing with no redeeming features. The staff were nice but not one of them knew the menu or understood the dishes. I expected them to understand the origin of the ingredients and what they added to the dish as well as how the chef prepared them. It is supposed to be a foodie experience which it was not. Each course lacked flavour, texture, colour and generally was quite dull. Once we were seated to our table the maitre d asked us if we would like dessert, i really didn't understand the question. Before water or wine was offered we were supposed to decide if we wanted dessert. I was so put off by this. We asked to see the wine list and were told the sommelier will be with us. He didn't know the wine list at all , he was scrolling through it like it was his first time. He recommended the malbec as it was on the other menu that included wine and told us it was very smooth. It definitely was not smooth and quite dry however my husband liked it & we ordered that. I had the sauvignon blanc. At no point were we pulled back from our disappointment. At the very end when we were asked specifically for feedback we gave our feedback , the maitre d said he was sorry which is not really what we wanted to hear, He wasn't able to handle negative feedback, didn't know what to say or do so just said sorry and walked away from our table. We paid the bill along with the 10% already on the bill and left. We wont be returning.

My partner and I came to Deane's in February as we had received a voucher for Christmas. We were particularly excited because we'd watched the chef Alex on Great British Menu and were very excited to try his food!
All of the staff were lovely and very accommodating and the atmosphere was nice, however, I was disappointed with the food. We got the tasting menu and in all honesty I wasn't particularly impressed. Quite a few of the dishes lacked overall flavour and others only had one overriding note. I don't know if the chef was having an off-day but I've eaten much better food in Belfast elsewhere.
All in all, for the price, I wouldn't be back I'm afraid.
Perfection!
Visited this restaurant to celebrate a special birthday and we could not have made a better choice. We chose the tasting menu with matched wines. Each course was a visual spectacle, surpassed only by the amazing taste experience. The unobtrusive and professional staff were very knowledgeable with a clear and concise description of each dish, while Didier the sommelier gave a delightful account of why he had chosen each wine.
An unforgettable experience; unreservedly recommended.
Beautiful lunch at Eipic
Had a super lunch at Eipic recently. The food, wine, and service were all excellent. I was made feel very welcome having been fortunate to get a last minute booking. Had the surprise menu which had great quality and variety.
Wine list was excellent. Chose the pairing option which proved a very good choice.
Courses included bbq mackerel, an exquisite mushroom tartlet, beef fillet with exquisite champ and a glorious caramel tartlet.
The room was very comfortable with good spacing between good sized tables.
Looking forward to a return and would highly recommend.
Phenomenal
Had the Tasting Menu. Wow! What an amazing culinary experience. 12 courses of fabulousness ! Couldn’t fault anything at all.
Lovely surroundings; mouthwatering food; fabulous wine list and brilliant service. I even got a stool for my handbag!
Would definitely recommend.
Best in the country
For some reason we’ve never eaten at Deanes Epic before. Deanes at Queens many times of course.
We’re at an age where instead of things our children buy us vouchers for Michelin Restaurants all over the place.
We’ve been to Gordon Ramsey Hospital Road, Rick Stein, Marcus Waring, La Gavroche, The Ledbury, Phil Howard, one in Edinburgh, Mount Juliet in Kilkenny the list goes on. All this to say Deanes Epic is up there with the best of them.
We went for lunch today and it was outstanding. From the service to the food to the price to the ambiance it was seriously excellent.
Staff are polite without being obsequious and nothing was too much trouble.
The lunch menu is superb, from appetiser, beautiful bread, starter, main, cheese, desert coffee/ tea all for 29.99!
Only Gordon Ramsey’s came close.
Do yourself a favour and book in, we already have!
Really special
This restaurant is already in demand and we had to book well in advance to get a table. The tasting menu was one delicious treat after another .. even the butter was superb. The matched wines were served by an enthusiastic and knowledgable sommelier. The portions were ideal for us but we saved space for the Incredible Edible book ... we shared one portion ... no doubt covid restrictions make the dining experience in all restaurants unpredictable in terms of restrictions but we felt very safe but the restrictions did not get in the way of it being a very special evening. It feels like this is a restaurant with a very dedicated and talented team.

My daughter and I went for lunch on Thursday 9th December. We went in and didn’t finish this delightful experience until about 4.30. We had the mystery menu and the food did not disappoint. Each course was an “ooh, ah” moment. We had a delicious brown crab risotto which was just oozing with flavour. The first crab dish which my daughter actually liked and finished as they are usually uninspiring. The venison ceviche with pickled walnuts was beautifully presented but one of the stars was the desert of chocolate mousse cake with passion fruit sorbet. The presentation was outstanding on this dish. Of course we had to finish with the incredible edible book desert which Alex Green cooked for the Great British Menu. That was so exciting and worth the trip to Belfast on its own. By the way, service was excellent as well, waiters very attentive and an all round marvellous experience.

Disappointing experience. There recently for the great British menu and it was fab.
Reasonable price for tasting menu. Wine also good value. Food not as interesting or tasty as GBM.
Fabulous
Absolutely fabulous! Have always wanted to try Alex’s food after seeing him on great british menu. Not disappointed! Flavours I’ve never tasted before presented beautifully. Excellent and would highly recommend. Even got to meet the chef himself!
Be the first to ReplyEpic Eipic (probably done before but accurate)
We visited Eipic for a birthday lunch yesterday and chose the surprise tasting menu, great choice and they were happy to accommodate my allergic to all fish husband. The food was amazing, the potato dish, the crab dish, the mushroom, venison, chocolate dishes, all amazing. But what made the lunch so perfect was the staff, they were knowledgeable but so friendly. Just an amazing experience and can’t wait to return
