The food and service were great.
The bottle of wine was actually less expensive than buying direct from the winery. Highly recommend.

Cucina sorella is a cute spot that has it all; a trendy and cute atmosphere, friendly waiters, and delicious food. Weirdly enough, the butter that they bring out for the bread is consistently one of my favorite things-- it's so delicious I could eat it straight. With a menu that rotates frequently some dishes sit above others in terms of taste, but this just means the food ranges from good to phenomenal. The ricotta and squash pasta is a favorite of those phenomenal meals, but I always keep coming back for more. Edit: Just after posting this I saw that the restaurant has been flagged as closed-- I am so so sad to see this and truly hope it comes back in the future! My first trip here was to celebrate a new job, and it was special to me. I'll keep that memory close!!
Be the first to ReplyThis place has amazing food and drinks.
Bartenders know how to make amazing cocktails and always provide great service.

We had a salad to begin, Yellowtail for two and the Eggplant Pasta dish for one. A lovely red blend accompanied my dinner. The Lavender 75 cocktail was popular. Bread and garlic butter was hot and tasty. Bring on three desserts! A Chocolate Bread Pudding was divine. A Brownie surprise for the birthday girl. A Lemon cake was delicious. Of course we shared the three. We will truly miss this Kensington neighborhood gem. Their last meals will be served July 2nd.
Be the first to ReplyHoly cow.
..the chicken fra diavolo is divine...better than mine. Moist on inside and crispy on the outside. Great flavor. The marscapone polenta and broccolini was to die for.I'm in heaven.
Be the first to ReplyI came here to eat dinner for an early mother's day dinner.
The service we got was good but the food was OK.... The wasn't a wide range of options on the menu but we all got different dishes. I got the Bolognese rigatoni and it was bland. I felt like it was missing something. The short rib pasta dish was the best dish that we got and I got to share that with my Fiancé. The griled ocotpus was OK and had a weird after taste. The meatball was not bad. (it's just a single meatball) the burnt brussel sprouts actually tasted pretty burnt. I felt like it needed a better drizzle or dipping sauce. Our server was very friendly and helpful.

the bucatini Amatriciana pasta dish was super salty last night and not at all like the amatriciana in Italy :( this hasn't been the only bad experience I've had here I've been coming here for months and have encountered minor hiccups but never like this ...one of the severs told me they have a new chef. Well let me tell you what if this is the standard to be expected I will no longer be giving my business to this restaurant group. Maybe the restaurant is having a tough time staffing I'm no expert but I will be giving them another shot in a few weeks and I will update my review then if it has improved. All though not likely.

Wine and seasonal salad options are awesome but the mains and pasta dishes are SO SALTY. Second time being here with people and we all were gasping for water to drink and lemon to add to our dishes. It's cute for the area but after two times I don't think I'll be coming back unless it's for happy hour wine

So this was not our first choice for dinner but we wanted to try a new place. We ordered the apple salad but it was so dry not enough dressing. We asked the waiter for a side of dressing and that made it better. We ordered the Margherita pizza, it was mostly doughy bread a small amount off cheese and some sauce. Was expecting a flat bread style pizza but got more like a French bread style. The place is clean and service was ok we had to wait a bit off time to get out check and the place was not very busy at all. We won't be returning

This place is a hidden gem on the Kensington strip, just one exit away from our house. We have come for early dinner/happy hour on several occasions with our little girl and they have always been super accommodating. Food is always on point. Try the zucchini blossoms!
Be the first to ReplyMy brothers and I had dinner here yesterday.
We had the Apple Salad, Margherita Pizza, Short Rib Pappardelle, bread and butter. All was DELISH!! Excellent wait service by Brandon and the manager Mariella was very hospitable! Highly recommend ; )
Be the first to ReplyFirst time at this restaurant.
I had booked a reservation for 4:30 PM. The first issue was that they didn't have printed menus when we sat down. We were told to use the scan code. For us, it was too small a print to read. Because I had read the reviews, I knew that an appetizer of Squash Blossoms that was to be good. So, I order the appetizer while still waiting for the printed menu. That must have been what irritated our server, Brandon. From that point on he was AWOL. We watch as other patrons came in and were served by Brandon. Not sure why, but a young woman came and asked if we had been taken care of. We told her that we only ordered the appetizer, but we hadn't been able to order our drinks or dinner. She took both orders. She promptly brought us our drinks and the appetizer showed up. Then we waited and watch everyone that came in after us being served. Since no one came back from the time we received our drinks, I finally got up at 5:45 PM (that is 1 1/2 hours since we sat down) and found the young girl that took our order and inquired what happened to our order. Funny...Not really, she brought our order out immediately. My dinner was the shrimp and angel hair pasta, and my guest had the short rib pappardelle, cremini mushroom, and carrot. The short rib and pappardelle were delicious and flavorful. I would not recommend the Shrimp & Angel hair pasta because it was flavorless. It tasted like pasta water and a little cream, and the Fresno peppers, and that's it.We finished our dinner and guess who decided to act like he was our waiter, Brandon. He quickly brought the check. Too bad he wasn't that quick to give us customer service. I would not recommend this restaurant based on my dish and the lack of service.
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped coming for a few years because of the surcharge.
It's still there, sadly. There are so many places without it that it's easy to put Sorella at the bottom of the list and then forget about them. We have been many times before and know what to order. The meatball on polenta is always amazing. The octopus was delicious- they recently changed the ingredients and it was SO yummy. These are SICILIAN pizzas. Thick, bready, focaccia- like crust. Yeah, I'm with all of you that I wish it was a normal crust. I wasn't happy when they made the change a few years ago. But tonight we ordered one for the first time. We got the special pizza created by the chef of Wolf In The Woods and it was absolutely delicious. Crust was crispy enough and topping/ crust ratio was good. The chicken fra diavolo is another winner winner chicken dinner. The wines are delicious and the mixed drinks are lovely. We came on a Sunday and had zero issues walking in and zero issues with service.
Be the first to ReplyThere was a 3.
95% surcharge added to the bill - the guy behind the counter was ambivalent about it and said he didn't know anything about it - that's it been there since covid and never removed. He said people keep asking him about it - lame answer, he didn't make an attempt to ask anyone else or to correct the bill. Made no eye contact as he explained himself so I'm sure it's all BS. It may not be much but be on the look out for this - their bilking you extra. Very disappointed in his and

Eddy, our server recommended his favorite wine, Falcone Syrah, It tasted really good! My mother enjoyed it and insisted we take a bottle home! Thank you Eddy for the hospitality this evening. This restaurant is a must if you are ever in town and wanted to try authentic Italian cucina!! They do charge to open the bottle with your dinner but it adds to the aesthetic so please do not skip to enjoy the taste of fine wine with your cuisine! We will be back! Sweet home, San Diego. I will tell all my influencer friends about this spot! :)

Portions are sizeable for the price and the servers are knowledgeable. Nice little spot for a date or for going out with friends. It's just on the verge of Normal Heights and is great to walk to if you live in the neighborhood!

Definitely a solid Italian spot! My boyfriend booked this place for us for our valentines meal and I was excited to learn they have one Michelin star. We were seated quickly with a reservation, and I ordered a glass of Nebbiolo to start. The wine was tasty, but the food left me wanting more. I am a fiend for grilled octopus so that was our appetizer, followed by the marg pizza and shrimp angel hair. I'm a big fan of spice, but the pasta was so spicy I couldn't eat more than a few bites. The pizza was good in a "drunk pizza" sense. Very thick crust but tasty. The opposite of Napolitano. By the end of the meal, we both agreed they probably shouldn't have a Michelin star. No hate at all, but I prefer to be "wowed" by places with the prestigious award. We would come back, but there are other Italian spots we frequent for the authentic food & feel. If you're looking for a trendy, cozy atmosphere and solid food - this place is great. If you're Italian, steer clear. I was happy to find a Nebbiolo by the glass because that is rare. We left full & happy, no real complaints.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice place, manager and waiter were great but the food
Very nice place, manager and waiter were great but the food sucks. Pizza was bread not pizza. It was not freshly made. We couldn't eat it so the manager was very nice to offer us another entree. She was trying make us happy first time customers but it's was not much better. Watch your receipt my husband noticed something on receipt being charged for sometime we didn't order. We will not be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis was our first time and I was very impressed.
The service, food, cocktails and atmosphere were all on point. I highly suggest the baguette with garlic butter as a starter. The paper plane (cocktail) had me flying! Unfortunately, did not leave room for dessert, so will have to wait for next time. Will def be back.
Be the first to ReplyWe had the BEST food service in Kensington at Sorella
We had the BEST food service in Kensington at Sorella tonight! The hostess was so friendly and welcoming. Our server was also the bartender and food runner; he knew the menu well and kept us with drinks full our entire service! The squash blossoms were fried perfectly and light. My husband ordered the giant meatball and it was light and flavorful, the perfect bite! We had an event to get to so did not get to dessert but will be back very soon to try new dishes and dessert! Highly recommend and it's a Tracy Borkum restaurant so you can come knowing your getting award winning food!

The bolognese was different than at other places, but in a good way. The dish had a bit of lemon in it and the ricotta was very light and airy. It was a good dish. The pizza was also really good, but so filling! The pizza could easily be sufficient for 2 people! I'd like to try the other pasta dishes on the menu the next time I go back. I wish they stayed open later, we arrived at 7:30 (seated closer to 8) and we ended up being the last people to leave. They seemed a bit short staffed as our waiter did not come around often, but I understand this is more common during these times. I'm also hoping they will add or change the dessert options as I'm not a fan of bread pudding (I did not try it).

What a cute place! Also, Thursday is all night happy hour! We tried the bartender's choice cocktail which was a blackberry rum drink with egg white...so delicious! We got the truffle fries and the meatball with polenta for food. Both were tasty. I cant wait to go back.

Ordered a the squash pasta and a mushroom pizza. Pasta was ehhhh (7/10) and the pizza was like something you would get at apple bees (6/10). My lady got a sangria that was overly bitter by too much grapefruit that they threw in it. Also got Brussels sprouts.. seemed like another dish you'd get from apple bees. On the bright side The servers attention was great. Overall give the food here a 6.5/10.

We had an overall enjoyable experience!! We got the burrata salad and the mushroom pizza. Both were delicious! The burrata dish was extremely flavorful. The dressing had a hint of sweetness and wasn't enough to be overpowering! The pizza was much different than expected, the crust was very thick and fluffy. The flavors were delicious! The only thing holding this back from 5 stars was that they were out of almost every beer they had. My husband selected two different beers after the server warned him that his first pick might not be available. Both his picks ended up being unavailable and it turned out they only had 2 available options. My espresso martini was great, though I felt bad that my husband was slightly disappointed in his experience ordering a beverage. We will be back and hopefully they will have their beer situation figured out!
