Crystal Cove State Park Newport Beach Reviews from The Last Year
I have been coming to Crystal Cove since I was a kid, but
I have been coming to Crystal Cove since I was a kid, but today's hike was by far one of the most beautiful I've ever had at the park. My mom and I came for a late afternoon hike and did the shorter five mile loop that begins at the No Dogs Trail and ends at the beach tunnel parking lot. Everywhere we looked and walked there were SO MANY beautiful flowers!! The bloom at this time of year (mid-May) is absolutely astonishing and the sweeping views of the hills were filled with so many vibrant shades of green. I recommend coming to this hike and packing a lunch to eat on the beach once you finish. It's easy to make an entire day out of your 15$ visit to this Orange County staple--in my opinion, the most beautiful view along PCH in the area
The old man at the security booth has got to go!!! God
The old man at the security booth has got to go!!! God FORBID you get to your rv site/camp site even 5 minutes before check in- THEY MAKE YOU LEAVE AND COME BACK EXACTLY AT 3pm! THERES NOBODY IN THE SITE yet we cannot go in. Don't worry tho, the old man at the security booth will also mansplain rules to you and how to back in properly to your rv site. Let it go bro, let it go.
Finally took the time to visit this beautiful state park.
Always wanted to take a hike down to the beach for tidepools. Parking is $15, but if you visit any local libraries a state park pass is available upon request at no charge. Simply when you arrived to any state parks or beaches hang it up on your rear view mirror. No need to pay for parking. There's few different parking lots depending where you would like to go. Hiking down to beach and tidepools was a breeze. So many gorgeous flowers blooming as you walk on pavement trails. Different lookouts at certain locations had amazing views! As we walked down to beach, spotted a cool cave. Many interesting rocks formation throughout. It was a little disappointing we weren't able to see a lot within tidepools, but worth checking out. Saw a bunch of blue jellyfishes washed up on shore and some sea anemones. I really enjoyed spending my time there with the sun out. It's now one of my favorite spot to go hiking.
There is a $15 parking fee for all day.
You walk along the trail to get down to the beach.
Crystal cove is positively gorgeous.
I drive through here every day. Twice! And I finally picked a cold, windy day to hike thinking it wouldn't be that busy. Wrong! It was still busy. But still very enjoyable. Dog walkers/owners: we are limited to certain areas only. So you will be walking along PCH. It gets a little noisy. But PICK UP AFTER YOUR DOG! Plenty of trash receptacles to toss your dogs biohazard waste. I noticed a pile or two along my walk with my dog. Which is probably why we are limited to certain trails, because dog waste can be very to some wildlife. Not to mention it's a nuisance and an eyesore. So we get punished for other peoples lack of picking up after their dogs. I have a large dog so we can only do a couple miles each way. But I'm sure there's so many more trails in there that we didn't even come close to walking on. I highly recommend you go and enjoy what our coastal areas offer. People spends thousands of dollars to vacation out here. But we live out here!
Beautiful scenery, challenging hikes for those who want it
Beautiful scenery, challenging hikes for those who want it and easier hikes for those who don't. Walk over to the beach after the hike and dip your toes in the sand! Welcome Center station is a bit small but enough for the kiddos. Parking is accessible and nearby there's restaurants for an after-hike lunch!
Peace and joy at the cove
Got together with friends on a beautiful Sunday morning. We walked and talked and enjoyed the beautiful morning. The beach and cove are simply stunning. So thankful for this stunning place. If you are looking for some peace and joy, this is the place to be.
The park attendants give California state parks a bad name.
Consistently each time I go to visit the park or campground the employees are rude and childish. I frequently visit many of Californias other beautiful state parks and I've never been treated even close to as harshly and as rudely by any other state park employee. It makes what would normally be a beautiful time/stay at crystal cove an absolute nightmare. Unless if something changes soon, I would highly suggest going to one of the many other beautiful campsites up and down the coast where you can have a pleasant stay without being treated like you are burden to the staff or you don't belong. I truly hope that this can change, but until that happens I most likely will not be visiting crystal cove.
$15 day use parking fee.
Can pay at the Ranger parking station, visitor center, or pay by phone with your license plate. It's a CA state park so perhaps less crowds at the beaches versus the nearby Laguna Beach municipal maintained areas. Also hiking trails as well.
I love the trails and walkways here.
I came here for vista point which is just a short walk down from the parking lot. It's a great spot for picture opportunities without having to go too far. Parking is $5 per hour so it can get pricey if you come here often. Would be back to check out more trails!
Not ADA compliant for older people with physical needs!
The restaurant was so crowded you could not get a wheelchair seated person through to their table, I don't think the ramp going from the sand up into the restaurant was to code for wheelchair accessibility and those with disabilities, there is no bathroom in the restaurant, you have to leave the restaurant walk or get your wheelchair up a Sandy Hill to get into the state park restrooms which were filthy have no soap and no paper towels and we're not accessible. Forget about the food the place was uncomfortable busy noisy and did not meet everyone's needs in my party. I will never go back there again!

This is my favorite place to go take a stroll! Lots of parking and many entrance and exit routes. For people who are always in search of accessible bathrooms, there are plenty! It is on the pathways before you go down into the beach. the California coast is absolutely beautiful with the rolling yellows, purples and brown hues of the flowers and biodiversity . Lots of trails, and there are shuttles that take you to and from the beach at the parking lot as well.
Ocean and beach
Dorms = 1st class camping buildings from the 40s restored . Expensive restaurant on site. Free coffee at lobby. Simple life. MEUTERMEDIA
A must do when in Orange County
Crystal Cove State Park is just amazing place to see. Take the hiking paths or the stairs down to the beach. There you will find life guards on duty. The kids will enjoy seeing all the rocks, shells and driftwood. There is $20 entrance fee.

The weather is always nice here and the beach is gorgeous.
We took a stroll along the beach and it was a beautiful walk. The views from up top before walking down to the sand area is stunning. It was not too crowded when we were here which was nice.
Not worth $20 for parking.
I can't believe how much it is to park here! It's a small lot (maybe about 20 spots. Unless I didn't see an extended area). It is a far walk from your car to the beach (again, not worth paying to park here but there is nowhere else to park if you want to come here). They do have a bathroom before you go to the beach area and it does have a shower area to rinse off sand. Once we got to the beach, we went to the cave area (so underwhelming, I expected much more). We wanted to wait for the tide to go down so we could look at the tidepools. But looking down on the ground, I noticed trails and trails of ants!! I have never seen ants at the beach before! So gross! We ended up walking further down to the other side of the beach and sat down there. It had less ants but of course two still managed to crawl up on me even though we sat on a blanket!! I definitely did not feel relaxed at this beach and did not like much about it. The only good thing, and why it gets 3 stars, is because we found a cool sea snail. Other than that, this tide pool sucks!
this place is unacceptable.
we came here wanting to check out the place to see if they were busy. the man said "it's pretty busy" and didn't allow us to go inside unless we paid. once we PAID. we soon discovered they were not busy at ALL. we started getting comfortable and not even 5 minutes later. the lifeguard tells us that the park is closing in 40 minutes. we were very aggravated and had to walk back UP a HILL and back to our parking lot. i am VERY disappointed and DO NOT recommend coming here. especially the man working on the front desks who DID NOT tell us that the park will be closing in an hour. i am VERY disappointed in this park and their staff. please fix it IMMEDIATELY. this is not exaggerated.
No parking Lot full and long lines
I paid for a daily parking pass and then went to park and they said the lot was full. I called the main # and the person who answered the phone said I am sorry there is no way to refund you. What a rip off!
Nature tour with park guide is excellent
Highly recommend the free guided nature tour with Beverly. She was very knowledgeable about all the wild life flowers, plants, wild life, seaweed and seagulls. See the parks website for details.
