Worst Dining Experience Ever Had
My family and I came here for dinner and had to wait over an hour and a half for food. Throughout this time, the waiter never came by to refill waters or drinks, and rolled his eyes when we asked for silverware. When our food finally came, he delivered one plate to the wrong table. The patron at the other table picked up a slice of quesadilla from the plate before the waiter took it and returned it to our table less than 30 seconds later. When we finally got our bill, we were charged for the table before us's drinks. When we asked our waiter, he told us that it was included on there but was also taken off. Instead of explaining that to us when he dropped the bill off, he just dropped it without a word. There was never once an explanation for the wait or an apology. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat in Champaign, now it is safe to say I will never be coming back again or recommending it to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyWorst restaurant experience EVER!!!
Worst restaurant experience ever! Cowboy's brunch was recommended by a colleague, I love brunch and I've explored many of brunch spots in town, and I was excited to try Cowboy's. When I arrived, I was greeted by a waiter with a question: are you here for coffee or breakfast? I said breakfast. He asked me to wait in the entryway for a table to be cleaned. A few moments later, the table was ready and he gestured me to the table, I then proceeded to take a seat. Couple minutes later, the same waiter walked by and dropped two menus on my table, he did not say a word to me, he then asked customers a few tables away if they needed a menu, he then walked away. At this point, I felt something was off. Generally a waiter/waitress would greet you with warmth/friendliness: good morning, how are you, what brings you out today, have you been here before etc? Generally a waiter/waitress would introduce themselves, introduce the menu, talk about their specials or popular items on the menu, ask if you want something to drink etc. These are basic expectations and customer service 101 for a restaurant setting. All this notwithstanding, I decided to give him and the establishment the benefit of the doubt, maybe he's having a bad day, or they're slammed with customers etc, we're all humans afterall. A couple minutes have passed since he dropped the menus on my table, without saying a word to me, he then walks out to the table across from me and greets the family seated there with a very friendly and warm "good morning" bla bla bla. At this point it was obvious to me that he is intentionally treating me in a manner that is disparate, disrespectful, uncourteous and prejudicial. It was clear to me that I was not welcome at Cowboy's at this point. I knew that I had to leave. I happen to be black. The waiter happens to be white. The customers he treated courteously, also happen to be white. I went inside to talk to the manager on duty about my experience, which I did and it turned out the waiter who treated me with unprofessionalism and prejudice, is the other manager on duty. This makes the whole experience orders of magnitude more egregious, because he knows better and he demonstrated that he's perfectly capable of treating white customers with courtesy, respect, and professionalism when his prejudice doesn't get in the way. More concerning to me is how he treats his minority employees (assuming he hired any), if this is the way he treats a total stranger he met 10 minutes ago. Finally, I does pain me to have to write this, because I hate to paint an establishment with a broad brush, I'm sure most of the ppl who work here are good, decent, honest ppl who treat all customers fairly, without discrimination or prejudice. That said, it is important to call out prejudice and racism especially when coming from ppl in positions of authority. I'll never return to this business, and i definitely will not recommend this restaurant to others, except if they're white.

Great casual fare and dance lessons on certain nights!! Friendly service. It was pretty humid to sit outside, but just fine once the sun dropped.
Be the first to ReplyAverage food - Pleasant outdoor seating for summertime
The best thing was clearly the outdoor street sitting on a hot summer night. Except for that, food and service average
Be the first to ReplyGood, quick meal
My friends and I stopped by here before going to watch the NBA Finals game for a quick bit to eat. We also got some drinks. The drinks could have been stronger, might have just been the night, but they were a little watered down in my opinion. I got the steak nachos. They were good....plenty of chips, steak and cheese and chipotle sour cream. It was fresh and hot. If the drinks improved I could move this up to a 4 star. We sat outside which was nice. I would definitely go back and give it another try.

Interesting and delicious drink menu. Food is very good - fresh salsa and yummy quesadillas. It was a muggy day and the a/c was blasting and felt AMAZING.

Stopped in for an early week cocktail. Ended up trying a couple menu items. The mango sauce for the fried cheese was super different and delicious. I even saved some of it for my shrimp tacos. Loved it. The bartender was attentive.
Be the first to ReplyBest Mexican in Champaign
I worked here, so I have tried everything on the menu (that's vegetarian anyway). The zucchini tacos are the best tacos I've had in my entire life. They're spicy, umptious, creamy and hardy. Even though they're vegetarian tacos, they fill you up. The pickled cabbage offers zest and acid that is a welcome addition. The nachos are excellent, the crisps are absolutely delicious, I crave the queso and I cannot speak highly enough of the soapapilla. Even after working there, I could still eat there every single day. The ambiance is pretty cool- it's all outside (there's a small inside portion for concerts). But it's a beautiful place to hang out in the summer and just snack on different appetizers or split a crisp. The patio is spread out between two old streets with lights strung up. It's gorgeous and a really good way to get a feel for Champaign. And as the night gets older, the place can become a really fun bar. The cocktails are divine and potent. Their beer list is extensive and there's something for everyone. They have live music during the weekends, and fun events planned during other weeknights (like salsa/tango night). I really recommend this place- for whatever you're in the mood for. You really can't go wrong. It's a great place for families, couples, singles... everyone.

For a moment I thought I was in Mexico eating really good tacos and switching between beer and margaritas... then I realized I was still in Illinois. There is a very nice outdoor area but I was in the heat all day and opted for air. The inside has a large bar and stage. The service was very friendly and prompt. I would recommend this joint.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service combined w/great food!!
My wife & I ate at their nice outdoor patio tonight & we had an execellent dining experience. Our server, Emily, was a very personable & attractive server who went out of her way to provide amazing service to us! My wife had a great salad while I had the very tasty chicken quesadillas. In addition we had the huge & tasty chips & salsa appetizer, which was so large that we got half if it's take-out. In summary, Emily made our dining experience very memorable as we will certainly be back soon!!
Be the first to ReplyFun food, wonderful outdoor seating...
My friends and I meet here often when the weather is agreeable. The outdoor seating allows for adding incoming friends. Staff knows the menu, special orders are not an issue, and the nachos are awesome!
