Food and atmosphere are just eh.
Very white-girl instagrammable vibes. Food was very salty, greasy, and not exceptional in any way. But the waiter? Tall, dark, handsome, and super chill. I love that guy, he was such a bro! I would go back just to see him again! He was attentive but not overbearing, never left us without water, and was constantly friendly. He's a star.

I'm not sure how this place got such good reviews unless the good reviews are from people who actually matter to "Colleen". As for myself and my friend who just went there, "Colleen could care less". After waiting 25 minutes for a seat at the bar (not bad), we waited another 10 minutes for the area to be cleaned and after another 10-15 minutes of waiting we got up to leave. The masked bar tender never even looked at us. A woman came up as we were about to leave and asked us if we wanted to order anything. We ordered 2 drinks and sat back down. What did she do? Well, it wasn't go make our drinks or tell the masked bar tender to make our drinks that's for sure. Another 10 minutes and we left. The absolute worst customer service I've ever seen for a place that has the nerve to charge $18.00 for a cheeseburger. Will never return.

Colleen's Kitchen is one of my favorite places to enjoy delicious food and this day it was brunch. I forgot to make a reservation so was ready to find a place at the bar, but a table for two was available. This place has southern elegant charm and a perfect spot to bring your date to or wife in my case. We had several servers come by making us feel very welcomed. Each seem to have a role like a five star restaurant. A grapefruit mimosa was placed in front me and was very tasty. There was a beautiful small flower arrangement in middle of our table making it very classy. I ordered a single Fried Chicken Little Biscuit and my wife decided on the Buttermilk Fried Chicken + Waffles. I starred over at the bar to see brilliant colors from the liquor bottles, decor and fruit bowl with glass behind it showing the clear blue sky outside.Plates were set in front of us and our food was very presentable. My wife had a huge waffle in the shape of Texas and two big pieces of chicken next to it. It was sprinkled with powered sugar and maple syrup poured on it. I tasted the waffle and it was soft to my mouth tasting very good. My little biscuit was not small where about the size of a chicken sandwich. I had the same fried chicken my wife had but instead of maple syrup I had gravy. After one bite I was in heaven. The biscuit and chicken had great flavor. Both plates were excellent.Great service and great food keeps me coming back.

The best biscuits! We each had different breakfast food and they were all delicious. From hostess desk to paying the check, the service was efficient and friendly.

Yum! My husband and I met a friend here for brunch over the weekend. We had a few drinks and the grilled banana bread which truly was delicious. The service was also attentive which I appreciate, especially because of how busy it was.

I had the opportunity to visit Colleens Kitchen for Sunday brunch. Although we had reservations, we still had to wait an additional 10-15 minutes to be seated. Luckily there is a small little bar where you can wait. Once seated our waited was very friendly and informative. He provided us with great food recommendations. He was also training a new waitress and she was doing a pretty good job keeping up and paying attention. Our food came out quick and everything was really good. I'd definitely try Colleens again but I'd try to go earlier in the day to avoid the crowd and parking struggle.
Be the first to Replyjust okay.
the pimento cheese and house chips were good but everything else was just okay! the skillet cornbread is huge and was average. I felt like most of my salad lettuce was the whitest part of the romaine possible ha. waitstaff was very friendly

We stayed across the street from Colleen's, so we ate a few meals here. Service was always friendly, and the food was consistently good. The first visit was a warm evening. We sat on the outdoor patio. We ordered the fried green tomatoes (delicious), and the dip that was with it was equally yummy. We split the fried chicken with potatoes and collard greens. It comes with 2 pieces of chicken, one breast, and one dark meat. For drinks, we enjoyed the frozen pineapple Jalapeño margarita. So good!! For breakfast another day,we sat at the bar, first come bases. We had the chicken and waffles (same chicken 1 dark piece/1 breast) with a side of the sausage gravy (very tasty). We also had a biscuit breakfast sandwich. The biscuit was buttery and scrumptious. They do add an automatic 20% gratituity to all checks fyi.
Be the first to ReplyWe enjoyed the fried green tomatoes.
Great seasoning and good sauce, but I prefer them without the sauce. The Butternut Squash Fiji apple soup was delicious. A bit spicy so if low burn spicy is not your thing, it may not be for you. Ordered a fried chicken thigh to accompany the soup and it was fantastic! Boneless, fried to perfection with the juiciness and crunch that is everything with fried chicken. It helped to balance the spice of the soup also. Only drawback was the 20% required fee which is not the tip. I'm not from Austin so I am not sure if this is a thing at most places, but haven't seen it in Houston. Sterling our server was fantastic and the atmosphere was chill and easy going. If you don't mind the service charge I suggest giving them a try.

Great service, cute atmosphere, really delicious southern food. I celebrated my birthday here with friends for lunch. It was the perfect place for me. We ordered almost every appetizer and shared a cocktail punch.

1st off this place has the nerve to be charging $3 for a small cup of juice (which Is normal for fake fancy " ambiance " spots) ... but my issue is that I asked for no ice and they only filled my cup up half way . And also had the audacity to add gratuity. But it's too much to ask for my $3 drink to be full just because I asked for no ice. And the manager had an attitude with me when I called about it, audacity at its finest will not be returning

nah. they force 20% gratuity instead of paying their servers a living wage themselves. also they refuse to split checks i to more than 2 for big parties. Never coming back, don't recommend that anyone does
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, rude and racist service.
These folk make their living selling southern comfort food but have zero sense of southern hospitality--or least not when it comes people of color like myself.

Colleen's Kitchen is truly a place I will go to when I am back in Austin Tx. The restaurant is a magical space. Host, service and food are amazing. Started with the fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs. Yummy! We had the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and collard greens and chicken pot pie. Every was very good. And everything was seasoned to perfection. Dessert and cocktails were amazing also. I will definitely be back. It's good southern cooking.

Hello, Southern style breakfast heaven! If you love grits and biscuits, like I do, this place is for you. They have a fun menu with some real treats like the bacon wrapped dates, cornbread, shrimp & grits, and deviled eggs. But the real stars, are the "little biscuits" which are sandwiches that could include, fried chicken, country ham, eggs and sausage, or fried green tomatoes. So good. Love it!

10 out of 10 brunch spot On my trip to Texas, we came here for a nice brunch before walking over to the Thinkery. I'd have to say this was one of my best eating experiences in Texas. I want to start off with how friendly the customer service was. There was a mix-up in our reservation scheduling but they made sure to rectify it and get us in on time. We also brought a baby and they had a high chair waiting at the table. As for food, we tried a ton of food and there was not one miss. I will write my rankings of everything we received below, but I just want to triple mention that everything tasted so good. We thought the little biscuits were fun. Little slider options with homemade biscuits as the buns so we decided to have one of each. Highly recommend trying multiple things on the menu. We also had to go with shrimp and grits as a staple... and I am a large fan of bacon wrapped dates so we got those as starter. They were so good. Food ranking:Fried chicken little biscuitCountry ham little biscuitBacon wrapped datesShrimp and gritsFried green tomato biscuitBreakfast biscuit Overall, it was a great meal with the family and I can't wait to travel back to Austin because this will be a return visit spot for sure.
Be the first to ReplyFood was good, but service was slow.
The menu mentions that they're automatically tacking 20% on to the bill "in lieu of a gratuity", but the credit card receipt still has a prompt for tips and the waiters will verbally pester you to add a tip on top of the 20%. I fully support restaurants paying their employees a reasonable wage instead of relying on tips, but just raise listed menu prices if you're going to do that, and don't try to guilt people into tipping more if the wage truly is fair on its own.

A DO-NOT-MISS kind of brunch!!! It checks all the boxes: reservations through OpenTable, easy (and validated parking), cute aesthetic, great service, and delicious food. Like I mentioned, you can park in the McBee garage on Aldrich and you walk out right next to the restaurant. Bring your ticket with you for validation! Upon arriving, we were seated immediately in the dining room. They do have nice patio seating as well, but those weren't available when I booked. I will recommend if you want to have a low-key, easy conversation type of brunch, to book earlier in the morning. I went at 10:30 on a Saturday and it was starting to get pretty loud and crowded around 11:30. Our server, Aaron, was pleasant and super attentive. We ordered coffees and the biscuits to start and I gotta say, I would come sit at a table and do that exact same routine every day if I could. If you're one of those who are following the yellow brick road of fabled biscuits across Austin, put these on your list. Light and tender with a crisp exterior, housemade butter and tomato jam???? Incredible. For our entrees, I ordered the yardbird and my companion got the potato hash and added country ham. The food comes out pretty quick, so make sure you stagger your order if you're trying to do a slow/progressive meal. I heard they're known for their fried chicken at Colleen's and the Yardbird definitely holds up. Juicy, tender, well cooked AND well seasoned chicken breast. I really liked the whole grain mustard and the crisp slaw to cut through the richness of the chicken. Great experience all around - definitely somewhere I would bring my parents or a friend for a cute morning brunch date!! I'll have to come back to check out the full dinner experience.

Food took a long time when the restaurant maybe 75% occupied. Ordered biscuits as appetizer and they came out quick, but then entrees took a long time (more than 30 mins) after appetizer. All bill included 20% service charge which I believe it de-centivize good service, service was okay but slow even when asking for to go box.And lastly, the parking validation does not have credit. Many little things went wrong, so we will not go back again.
Be the first to ReplyLet me start by saying that the Fried Green Tomato Biscuit
Let me start by saying that the Fried Green Tomato Biscuit was divine. It had the right amount of salty, spice, and crunch. The Colleen's Punch was also great and I usually do not prefer frozen drinks, but the extra gin and vodka were worth it. The Shrimp and Grits were good, but the amount of Worcestershire sauce on the edge overpowered it with a sour flavor. The wait staff were friendly and charming, with the exception of the host, he left much to be desired. One small heads up: 20% gratuity is automatically included in the bill so.be aware.

The wait was long, but understandable since it was Sunday brunch and we didn't have reservations. Our service was a little slow, but the manager on duty was awesome, very helpful and ultimately made sure our experience went well.We went for brunch and my husband ordered the potatoes hash with avocado. It was ok. Nothing too special. He ordered the On The Rock Margarita and liked it.We shared the fried green tomatoes. They were ok. I had the chicken and waffles with everything on the side, an order of biscuits, a side of eggs and avocado to share with my toddler. Everything was good. Biscuits were to die for. Waffles were crisp and chicken was tender. It was a good meal all around. I'd be interested in visiting for dinner next time we are in Austin. The best thing about the restaurant was the location. It's near a park and since it was Sunday, the Farmer's Market was in full effect. Awesome family environment!

I came to this place being completely unfamiliar with Austin, the area, the restaurant, everything lol. All I had to go off of was the reviews that I seen and the star ratings that this restaurant had. So needless to say I took a chance... And it was worth it. I order the Side saddle for the drink which kind of had a whiskey sour or a whiskey smash type of feel to it and it was delicious. Also, I had the buttermilk fried chicken and I purchased extra gravy on the side and it was a perfect ending to my Sunday. The chicken was juicy and fried to perfection. The mashed potatoes were extremely good creamy but not too creamy... It had the perfect amount of chunk in it lol. I also ordered an extra biscuit based off of the recommendations of other reviewers...And I almost inhaled the biscuit without chewing because it was so good. I will absolutely be coming back to this place when I visit Austin again.

If you're looking for comfort southern food, this is the place! We loved everything we tried, from the bacon wrapped dates, pimento cheese appetizer, fried country chicken, and battered red fish. The food was on point. They also allow dogs in their patio, which is a plus. And the service was great. We went to the Mueller location, and there's a park near by where you can go walk or nap after your meal. 10/10
