Dined here for my birthday in November and was one of the most memorable dinners I've ever had! I was intrigued to try this place and thrilled to meet the chef, Charlie as he's the only Black Michelin starred chef in New York City! This guy is making history and will be following his journey. I had the 12-course chef's tasting menu paired with a tasty Sauvignon Blanc that the sommelier had recommended after looking over the list of pairings. The food was amazing--10/10! My favorite was the duck as it just melted in my mouth and left me feeling like the happiest person in the world, no joke! The ambiance was everything!--10/10. The small quaint restaurant is very intimate and perfect for a date night. The music was fitting and even the bathroom was so cute with burning candles! We sat at the bar which had a view of the chef and his crew preparing the sophisticated dishes of the night. It was great! The service was exceptional--10/10. The waiters that would bring out the tastings were knowledgeable about each tasting and described and answered questions effectively about the dishes. The waiter and sommelier were engaging and very knowledgeable as well. I'd love to try this restaurant again when back visiting New York City. Can't wait to try the chef's newest tasting either!

Total the best amazing atmosphere phenomenal chef dish is to die for a must. My waitress was fantastic. Very knowledgeable of all the ingredients, spices and seasonings. I love the decoration and the food was absolutely wonderful.

I came here with my fiancée during the week for his birthday and this place is worth the hype! The atmosphere is top notch: warm, welcoming and intimate. This is a perfect date night spot or for just catching up with someone you haven't seen in a while. The service is attentive without being overbearing and everyone is just generally so pleasant. For the main course, I stuck with the duck while my fiancée had the Kobe steak. Both were perfectly executed. Although, be warned that the Kobe steak portion is small! I would welcome the opportunity to dine here again; although, my bank account would not!

Before typing, I was struggling to decide on "excellent," "outstanding" or "amazing." I took Husband here for his birthday last night, and it was incredible (there's another synonym for ya). Clover Hill was the first Michelin star restaurant I've ever been to. And when judges, particularly on Netflix's "Five Star Chef" talked about taking journeys as they travelled with food in their mouth, I had no idea what they were talking about...until last night. I'll stop writing. Here are some pictures.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent tasting food and nice presentation.
It really does deserve its Michelin star recognition. Must try!
Be the first to ReplyHad a wonderful birthday dinner here last weekend.
The restaurant is small but very cozy and inviting. Service was good throughout the night and the food was delicious. My favorite dishes were the tuna and the Wagyu (literally the softest bite I've ever had).

The food and atmosphere (including the playlist) were lovely. Chef Charlie Mitchell is a G, Black Excellence. My favorite items were the tuna in tomato water and the duck. Would note the beverage menu & charging for all water makes it feel priced more like a 2-star than a 1. I ended up doing the standard pairing, which had some truly amazing selections and I would highly recommend. My husband did individual cocktails and one wine by the glass. He found it a bit tough ordering a cocktail completely blind to the evening's menu (e.g. his coffee Negroni was delicious on its own, but overpowered the delicacy of his welcome bites and first course). They do give an individualized printed menu to each patron at the end. Service was mostly 5-stars, except one thing -- at the start of the meal we were asked if we were coming in to celebrate anything, we mentioned it was our fifth wedding anniversary, she said congratulations, yadda yadda. My husband also noted this when he booked. During the meal we saw at least 5 tables (that's basically half the restaurant, mind you) get a special extra dessert with a candle (presumably a birthday). At the end of our meal, our server wished me a happy birthday and wonderful evening... I didn't correct her, but if you thought it was my birthday instead of our anniversary, shouldn't we have received the same special dessert instead of nothing for our occasion? I know it's silly, but for a Michelin level restaurant, it was an off putting end to the night.

- 10 star experience - very expensive - staff treats you like gold - some of the best champagne I'v ever had - dinner took a little over two hours - all the food was amazing - parking is not good - They are not so kind with canceling reservations, so make sure you are absolutely going - I love the low key, but posh atmosphere - people were wearing all kinds of clothing, thee environment is very unpretentious - rnb soundtrack was cool

I don't usually write reviews so this will probably go completely unnoticed, but this is an honest account of our experience at Clover Hill. We looked forward to supporting a local business offering fine dining in Brooklyn Heights, a lovely neighborhood with notoriously few good restaurants - certainly none earning a Michelin star. We thought that this would be a special meal to celebrate a birthday, and they reached out in advance to try to accommodate a dietary restriction. Great start! The first surprising disappointment was that the only non-alcoholic beverage on offer was water with lemon or lime. What? The first two one-bite courses were exceptional and beautifully presented, but the rest of the meal was underwhelming at best. Perhaps it was an off night, but the menu was 100% proteins - crab, scallop, fish, fish, more fish with caviar, fatty pork belly, Squab, not one vegetable course or accompaniment. We ordered the rib eye as a supplement (a substitute, not addition to) the Squab, which was 1.5x1.5 inches, extremely salty, and as we discovered when the bill arrived, $95. A huge ribeye at the very best steakhouses in NYC does not cost $95. Absurd. 11 Madison Park (3-stars) and Saga (2-stars) were both far superior fine dining experiences in every way in comparison to our disappointing evening at 1-star and comparatively priced Clover Hill. Congratulations on your star, but after this experience it's hard to imagine that you will deserve one next year, and we won't be back for the next course.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food, fantastic service, and an amazing vibe.
They welcome any and everyone to enjoy an amazing well planned menu. You can feel how much effort they put into everything. It's pricy, but worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyWhat can I say.
I had dinner at Clover Hill restaurant in Brooklyn Heights to celebrate Lizettes birthday. It was Michelin Star Chief Mitchell. I can say everything was 100 stars. Food. Service. Presentation. Staff = exceptional. If you want an experience, this is the place to go. He did his thing. The food was exceptional. Service was great. Pipper was our host and she was great. Very personal and engaging. Ambiance was awesome.

I was very excited to finally try Clover Hill after they received a Michelin star. Decided to save for a special occasion as the tasting menu + drinks + potential specials can get very pricey (by the way, their cocktails are amazing). The experience feels like a dinner at a friend's house. The soundtrack is fun and the ambiance is very cozy. There are a lot of people working here if you consider there are only around 10 tables? This means you will never be unattended, I was impressed with how attentive they are. Their house martini is perfect, served ice cold and so enjoyable. We skipped the wine pairing this time and stuck with cocktails. The dinner is a whole experience and the presentation is so beautiful. There are a lot of courses but I will share the highlights for me: the crab amuse bouche was so tasty! I love crab so that was a great way to start the meal. The farro porridge with truffle was the perfect dish for a winter night, absolutely delicious. They had a wagyu special that was charged as an additional dish and I had to try it - happy to report it was worth the extra $. I am usually not impressed by wagyu but they prepared it flawlessly, the endive side was amazing as well. The Spanish octopus was incredible, crispy and cooked just perfectly (very hard to find a nicely prepared octopus these days). They also had an option to add Uni to one of the courses and my husband did so, I tried the Uni (massive piece) and it was very fresh. I really enjoyed the dessert and its tropical vibes, it was a great light finish to an excellent meal. Bonus points for the little treats brought with coffee. Fun experience and stellar service, I would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion! I hope they bring brunch back soon.

Being totally honest, I came into this experience with lower expectations. I have had a few similar new one star restaurants in New York...especially Brooklyn that just seemed hype over execution. Enter clover hill. A (literally) hidden gem in an obscure corner of Brooklyn heights. Actually this block in Brooklyn is worth a visit alone. Chef charlie Mitchell is on his way to his second Michelin star very soon. He has taken fine dining and infused it with American spice and excitement. His delightfully filling menu is hit after hit. Once you enter the dark, moody, small interior you are greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. The pace of the meal is just fine. The drink menu is streamlined but solid. If I have one note it is I would love some sort of menu to accompany meal service. Call me old fashioned but I like to read what I'm eating not just heat it. This is a seafood focused menu and I am fine with that. I'd even say no need to upgrade to the meat dish. Fish is what they do so go for the ride. The crab tart was a fun take on the dish and took me to summers on the boardwalk! I could eat that farro porridge every day! So delicious. Check it out!
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding and unforgettable dining experience at Clover
Outstanding and unforgettable dining experience at Clover Hill. We were blown away by the attention to detail, flavors, and execution of the menu. It's a small, intimate space perfect for a nice date (maybe not the first, make sure you like them ;)) or a group of 4-5. The service was also excellent and knowledgeable, considering there are 8-9 dishes per seating. I haven't been this excited about a restaurant in a very long time and hope they continue to do their thang!
Be the first to ReplyService was excellent but overall 3 stars.
There are around 2:1 ratio of patrons to front of house even in such a small restaurant. They are constantly watching your table so a lot of servers come by. Why 3 stars? The ending/closing of the meal felt rushed and we got the feeling like they wanted us to leave. We were served the check while still eating dessert. The menu they promised, for showing the tasting menu, had no details except for the protein name. We rushed out of the restaurant even as people in the same seating were still closing out their dinner, due to this unwelcoming vibe. Imagine being watched by these very observant staff, but this time eager to see you leave. However we didn't get even a goodbye as we walked out. We normally should in any friendly establishment. Just very strange. My main reason for giving 3 stars is most of the savory dishes were extremely salty. Dishes that have that many ingredients should allow you to savor the ingredients or complexity of flavor of the dish. I could barely taste the delicate seafood underneath the sodium. I feel like this is an easy fix and can help them keep their star if they fix this. Plating was excellent.

The tasting menu is very inviting and tastes incredible.

I came here with some friends for our holiday dinner and to treat ourselves to a good meal! I found it interesting the waiter of a Michelin star restaurant didn't know his wine but I can't be too picky. Overall we had the pre fixe menu and everything was really great! My favorites were definitely the 21 year aged duck (which has a sweeter flavor for the people looking for that) and the Santa barbara uni and Osteria caviar over rice was phenomenal. They served their garlic bread with the duck and it was AMAZING. The bread was just on point and so delicious with and without the duck. I personally enjoyed the Hokkaido scallop which had been cooked on the sides of the scallop and had a strong mushroom taste with the pear and I thought it was really inventive but one of my party didn't enjoy it at all. Some good things to mention is the honey nut squash and truffle which I thought was an excellent starter along with the dry-aged shima-aji. The only one I found kind of disappointing was the Galician turbot as it was very bitter to my taste. The honey crisp apple lemon cake was not lemony enough for my taste and a little too sweet. Overall a great meal that takes you through an interesting journey. The service was also really great but most of my stars go to the inside ambiance as that one knocked it out of the ballpark. I would come here again but to order their regular menu as I went through the tasting menu this time!
Be the first to ReplyVery nice restaurant.
Good vibe, beautiful space, not a neighborhood crowd, maybe dining tourists chasing Michelin stars. Capable though not perfect service ("have we dined here before?", where a simple "you" would do; cocktail brought out after wine served). The martini -- konbu infused -- was excellent. Helpful, engaging sommelier who pointed us to an interesting Greek white. Food was very good but flavors not memorable. (Can we skip tasteless black truffles, please?) Tuna crudo on brioche my fav, sturgeon also very nice in a meaty way. Why the menu after rather than before the meal? All good but at ridiculously expensive price. Dinner for two with one of their more inexpensive wines (basically nothing under $100/bottle) came to $700. Not a good value. Good thing we had a $400 gift certificate or I would be kinda pissed.
Be the first to ReplyFor all its great reviews and Michelin star, this
For all its great reviews and Michelin star, this restaurant was a disappointment. The food was what one might see in a Michelin level of distinction. Good, tasty, but not exceptional. And it was expensive. Two small rolls with butter was $15. The other dishes were about a 25 percent higher than most recent two-star and many of the one star restaurants that we have been to in the last three months. That would be about 12 restaurants.

If @beyonce 's "Cozy" were a restaurant, it would be @cloverhillbk . "Cause she comfortable," Clover Hill sits tucked away on a picturesque, tree-lined street in idyllic Brooklyn Heights. Named after the neighborhood's original name, Clover Hill reopened its doors earlier this year after a two-year hiatus, having had to shut down during the pandemic. The restaurant cozily seats thirty-four, but the modesty of the space enables the executive chef @chuckgood (ex @elevenmadisonpark @onewhitestreet @jont_dc ) and restauranteurs @claycastt and @gabe.mer.ino to maintain an intimate, familial affair for the dining experience.New York is no stranger to thoughtfully-sourced New American tasting menus utilizing French techniques, but Clover Hill shows unique restraint to imbue a balance between comforting and elevated fine dining cookery. Both their fall tasting and brunch menus are incredible, and I generally have been hard pressed to find a fine dining restaurant that hits it out of the park with every course (standouts from the menus are in the comments below; see previous two posts for menu details). Special shoutout to whoever was on the aux because the playlist here also gets an 11/10 - lots of contemporary R&B, hip-hop, and funk without the trendiness that you'd see at a @onewhitestreet or @crownshynyc .Final Thoughts: Clover Hill embodies peak neighborhood restaurant vibes. While walking to the restaurant, I had déjà vu because the surroundings reminded me of Georgetown in autumn. There is something about fall foliage, with the auburn, mustard, and evergreen hues, gracefully fluttering in the wind onto the stoops of muted townhouses--just such a dreamy background for a restaurant, signaling sweater weather. Since Clover Hill earned its first Michelin star a few weeks ago, I (begrudgingly) look forward to this restaurant receiving more well-deserved hype. I can guarantee you, this place is one to watch. --------IG: @dinelikeaduchess
