One of the best restaurants in Paris.
You must have a reservation. Opens at 7. They like to eat late here. Every thing is good, and compared to the US, it's cheap for what you get. There are no small servings. It was Julia Childs favorite restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I were disappointed in the entire experience.
We made reservations four days before, yet we were given an awful table...next to the waiters station and the coat check. It was obviously an afterthought, and the maitre d' joked about how bad the table was. The service was slow and perfunctory, and the food...the reason we returned to the restaurant, was mediocre. Pรขtรฉ was underdone and bright red in the middle. My wife speaks French and overheard the waiter point it out, yet they did nothing. Wine service was slow. The lamb was correctly cooked but not tender, although the green beans were quite good. The white asparagus special (22 euros) was good, but they were a bit stringy. The steak with marrow was perfectly cooked, but the quality of the beef was unimpressive. For the money there are 100s of restaurants in Paris that are simply better! Chez Georges is resting on its laurels and its appearance as the quintessential Paris Bistro.

Fantastic dinner! Party of 4 meeting with friends for a special dinner in Ternes.Lamb, Sea Bass,Duck all cooked to perfection with flavorful sauces.Excellent service!Over the top desserts! The floating island (meringue), flan and custard cups exceeded all expectations. Loved the dinnerware!Sure to return while in Paris- reservations recommended

Our last night in Paris we ended up here and were super pleased. The service was very good from the start, the whole staff took great care of us. My wife had the sole meuniรจre and it was spectacular... if we both would have had that, it would have been 5 stars. I had the steak and frites and both were very good but not as good as the fish. Escargot as well, very good and we also had Lyon Sausage and some cheeses. I'd definitely return

How do you pass that up ?And seriously, I doubt much has changed in the years since she and her husband dined here. Standing still in time. The menu is hand written. A very full fun page to decipher, English is available, but come on. Look at the French one. Seating is tight. The host has to pull the table out for you to sit. There is only a couple of inches between the tables. Please take your time here, or at any French restaurant. Savor. Enjoy. It was a drizzly day out and almost two hours nibbling on goose rillette, pรขtรฉ, sipping wine and discussing the city here was perfect. So many choices. I finally settled on the rich pink duck with earthy wild mushrooms as my main. So much food in two courses. I recommend sharing a starter so you can check out the desserts. I saw some incredible ones go by. Two starters, two mains and three glasses of wine was $110. The most expensive meal during our stay. Ambience, food, and service- I would do it again. I have spent twice that in the States for less.
Be the first to ReplyThis is a classic French place in a great area in Paris.
Be ready to sit close to your neighbor, but that is part of the charm. The food is delicious and the staff is helpful. I love the sweetbread here. It is in a cognac sauce with morel mushrooms. The profiterole is yummy too!

What a treat to dine here (in Julia's footsteps) with my wife and good friends. First, the service was prompt and friendly. Second, the food was excellent from the fois gras to the sole meuniere to the tartre tatin and profiteroles. I'm not experienced with bistros in Paris, but I'll always remember our meal here. Chez Georges was excellent in every aspect and I hope to return soon. Thank you Chez Georges for an excellent evening!
Be the first to ReplyMy husband and I came to Chez Georges for a weekday lunch
My husband and I came to Chez Georges for a weekday lunch at noon and were able to be seated right away as we were one of the first people to dine. The restaurant itself is small but has an intimate feel so it would make for a great date night spot. They gave us a basket of bread and butter to munch on as we perused the menu. We started off with the assorted cheese platter and Lyon sausage which were both good but not spectacular. I felt that there could have been a little more variety in the cheeses they selected as they were all soft cheese varieties and with the exception of the blue cheese, all tasted similar. For our entrees, my husband ordered the beef filet with fries and I ordered the duck breast with mushrooms. We both ordered our cuts of meat to be cooked medium rare. My duck breast came out cooked the way I liked and it was delicious. The mushrooms were also seasoned nicely and cooked well. My husband's steak, however, was overcooked and was definitely not cooked medium rare as ordered. It was underwhelming for what we expected to be a great dish. The bearnaise sauce served with the steak was way too thick and overly salted.Overall, our meal was mediocre but not fantastic, especially for the amount we spent for meal during lunch. I've had better food in Paris and probably won't return here in the future.

We came here on our last night in Paris and it did not disappoint. Our hotel actually reserved this spot for us and we loved it! I would say it was probably one of the better meals we had in Paris. Everything was so good!Starters: Lobster bisque and escargot Entree: sole meuniere and duck breastDesert: apple tartThe complimentary bread was delicious (ate about 4 pieces) lol. Our server split the bisque for us into two separate bowls as my husband and I were sharing. It was thoughtful of them. Their bisque was creamy but not overly so and tasted like lobster. The escargot was the best we had in Paris. It came out in its shell and we had to pull it out with these little forks. Tasted so fresh (also cost 30 euros)I got the sole meuniere and it was out of this world. Yes, it was a little pricey at 47 euros but soo worth it. Buttery, cooked perfectly, and tasted phenomenal. I didn't care for the 2 naked potatoes on the side. My husband got the duck and it came out perfectly medium (in French- medium rare lol). He loved it and enjoyed the side of mushrooms. After all that food, we decided to share the apple tart. Omg, it was the best apple tart I've ever had. It came with a huge bowl of creme fraiche (basically like sour cream) and it really helped balance out the tart in the apple. Overall, really enjoyed our meals. Knocked off a star for cramming us in with the other diners when there were other spaces available and you literally had to pull the table out to get out. My husband got water knocked over on him. Yes, it's that tight!

There are too many other good bistros in Paris to dine at instead of wasting your time and money at Chez George. The bistro was at one time very good but each time I return it becomes less and less enjoyable. The management is rude, service is inconsistent, food is rushed, cooked improperly and floating in an over abundance of sauces. Considering the price of a main course ($45 to $55) one would expect high quality food product. Instead this bistro uses less expensive products that are definitely not from a named purveyor or farm. If one wants to dine at an exceptional bistro, eat high quality food at a fair price and enjoy onesel to the extent that you will want to return try bistros like Septime, Fontaine de Mars or especially - Bistro Paul Bert..
