Lovely birthday dinner
My wife & I visited Charlie’s for a last minute celebration dinner of her birthday that day & were delighted with the experience. Having not been to Browns Hotel for many years, we were very impressed with the current decor & surroundings which were smart & relaxing. The staff were excellent, especially the lovely Ludmilla who looked after us beautifully & made it such a special night. My smoked eel with rhubarb starter was historic as was my wife’s pumpkin soup. Special mention of my Venison main course which was superb & probably the best I’ve ever eaten. Ludmilla suggested the profiterole dessert which was a work of art & absolutely yummy. She even presented my wife with a tiny birthday cake complete with candle, which was so lovely & completely unexpected. After demolishing the fabulous homemade chocolate slices, she even bought us a beautiful box full of more chocolate to eat at home! Overall, such a special evening & we are certain to return to hopefully experience more of the same!

It was a truly memorable night at Charlie’s - we enjoyed the atmosphere and the food equally! I want to thank the whole staff for their warm welcome and service!
Be the first to ReplyA nice evening
The restaurant offers a very good environment, airy, fresh, reasonably crowded between the tables. The staff is fantastic and Matteo, Luigi, Luca were very present, offering themselves, committed to the food and drinks. We ate turbot (Halibut) and it was good, were not happy with our sole (Sole) and we were quickly offered replacement food. The wines are at a high level. Since the price picture of a restaurant must be weighed against the level of the food, I cannot give a higher rating because I expected a higher level. The amazing staff is what makes me give a four.
Be the first to ReplyA truly EXCELLENT combination of drinks and lunch!
Both situated in the 5* Browns Hotel in Albemarle Street in Mayfair, started off with great cocktails in 'Donovans' bar and then went into the lovely restaurant for lunch. Customer service in both the bar and restaurant were top notch with our waiter, Marco, really making the day special. The food was delicious and presented beautifully and together with some excellent wine and dessert wine (my thanks to the very professional sommelier) my wife and I had a really memorable lunch. Having stayed at most of the grand dame 5* Hotels in London over the years, for some reason we have never tried Browns? However having now visited the hotel and experienced the very high standards in customer service/care we will definitely be booking a weekend break there in the near future. This lovely hotel appeared to envelope you in comfort and kindness.....a real find!

I had a wonderful dinner at Charlie’s! My boyfriend and I were made to feel so welcome by Gianluca and Marina. It is such an elegant restaurant with beautiful decor and they host a live jazz band on a Sunday-a perfect, romantic dinner setting. Giacomo shared his specialist knowledge of wines to go with the food and the chefs are so talented here-our dinner was delicious. I loved the delica squash soup. Mauro took great care of us and recommended the coconut macaroon, passion fruit cream and mango sorbet to me, which was truly a fantastic dessert recommendation. Also Danilo, Keerthana and Millie were so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. Manuel served us tea after our dinner which was the perfect finishing touch. The staff team here are so friendly and they go out of their way to make sure you have the best time, which we really appreciated. Highly recommended :)
Be the first to ReplyShame about the iron
A really lovely venue, great staff and amazing food but …… from 3-5pm the iron was a constant presence in the dining room. Given we had a 2pm reservation it was a real distraction, not only the noise from adjacent tables but watching the iron cord being dragged around the room was slightly surreal. A 5* establishment can surely do better than this, it lets the side down. Why not replace the tablecloths rather than iron existing ones?

We had an absolutely lovely dinner! The food was phenomenal, we especially loved the delica squash soup, tuna ceviche, Strozzapreti pasta (one of the best pastas I’ve ever had) and the Dover sole. Each dish was made to perfection - compliments to Chef James. The service was also top notch - Marco took an excellent care of us. We only had 72 hours in London, and i must say that dinner at Charlie’s is a must,
Be the first to ReplyAn out-of-this-world best dining experience
This was quite the best dining experience that we had while grazing our way through a four-day stay in town. We came across Charlie's quite by chance as we wandered through Mayfair, and at the peak of the lunchtime service were fortunate to be given a lovely table . The chicken Caesar was quite superb (extra dressing brought promptly and cheerily), ditto the endive salad which was the perfect partner to the wonderful tempura mushrooms. The warm ciabatta rolls were out of this world, with additional supplies offered very readily. I wish I had asked the name of our delightful female server (dark hair, tied back) so that I could commend her personally; she was the icing on the cake of a superb experience, thank you!

Impeccable attentive service, lovely traditional dinning room and excellent food but pretty expensive.
Be the first to ReplyDon't expect anything special, except special prices
The food was tasty, the setting classic but beautiful and without being old-fashioned. The doorman of the hotel, where the restaurant is located, was genuinely friendly. The waiters were just playing tricks. As fake as anything. They try to sell a lot of sides, which quickly increases the price of the dishes. 1 side was more than enough for 2, but he didn't say a word about that. The sommelier almost laughed at us because we didn't take a £250 wine but a £100 bottle that in reality was barely worth £15. And they pour water into tubs, and when they feel that they can no longer sell anything, they still try to push through an extra bottle of water. No, not a nice feeling, not recommended.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
Nice welcome in the bar area . Nice ambience . Food was average …halibut was overcooked and dry. Service waned as it got later …waiting staff seemed more interested in cleaning other tables and setting them up for the following day rather than ensuring attentive and efficient service present customers . Service and food did not meet the expectation given the price. Need to up their game on service level .

Situated slightly off the main thoroughfares between Piccadilly and Mayfair, in Browns Hotel, nestles the most excellent Charlie’s Restaurant. Perhaps the most obvious feature of this restaurant is the understated ambiance and outstanding service. Every member of the staff exudes charm, professionalism and appropriate restaurant skills. They are led by one of the best Maitre D’s in London. The room is relaxing and tables carefully spaced. On my visit our table was at the furthest point from the entrance and near a delightful fireplace, which was a bonus on a cold night. The general atmosphere can be described as a cosy, welcoming , relaxed calmness. A good range of food was offered and the food we chose had been prepared, cooked and presented with exquisite care. My Dover Sole was outstanding. The wine list was extensive and carried some really nice wines from across the world. The whole experience was undeniably fine dining at its best. So rare to find these days in London. Looking at other reviews, it would seem that the high standard on my visit is the normal standard this restaurant achieves. I can’t wait to go back and highly recommend Charlie’s Restaurant at Browns Hotel.
Be the first to ReplyDelightful Sunday morning breakfast
Easy to park, no congestion charge, welcoming staff and varied menu from which to choose. Vegetarian breakfast was very tasty. Fredericà a great team member and very helpful. Thank you

Hostess, service, food ALL excellent. I don't have anthing more to say except that it was a wonderful meal with wonderful staff.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable evening, though some hiccups
Started in the nice, cosy bar beside the restaurant. Though the menus might have been presented in cleaner, crisper form, but the available choices were alright. Until the main courses arrived, all had been good. But serving cold vegetables and then taking far too long to replace them, and with little sign of a proper apology was not good form But, all in all it was an enjoyable evening.
Be the first to ReplySuperb in every respect
Sunday lunch to celebrate our sons graduation. Wow... all i can say... so starting with the warm welcome, we were early... but they accommodated us. Coats were taken, shown to a lovely table in great surroundings. Menu was superb, great Sunday roast option as well as full a-la-carte. Sunday Roast, Fish and a vegetarian option were simply perfect. For Vegetarians they will help in any way that they can... it was so easy. The waiter was so helpful as well and so friendly....nothing was too much trouble. Wine served by glass, carafe or bottle so a perfect amount. Good selection to choose from. Maybe a little background music could help, but that really is super picky!... Would easily return and have no hesitation to recommend Thanks to Browns & Charlies for making this so good on such a special day

Brilliant evening at Charlie’s Sunday jazz. Great food and impeccable service. Big shout out for Luigi who was absolutely charming. We love Charlie’s and Brown’s Hotel.
Be the first to ReplyA bit disappointing
Went for a birthday lunch with my best friend. Decor is beautiful, hotel lovely and the restaurant looked wonderful but sadly, for me the food just didn’t match. We had a late lunch table so maybe as it was towards the end of service, the food was not great. I had crab salad, 3 small quenelles with Melba toast. It was ok. Followed with duck on as a special. Sadly, looked and tasted like it had been stewing all day. Again tiny bits of meat, too soft quince and over reduced jus, a bit bitter. Service was generally good but spilt when they brought out the steam iron and started ironing the table cloths for the next sitting around us. I had great hopes but was disappointed overall.

Having heard that Paul and Jesus, formerly of Le Caprice, had become involved we decided to visit this restaurant. Their input clearly evident. On entering we were warmly greeted, our coats checked, and we were ushered to a cocktail table so that we might have a drink prior to our meal. There we found the presentation of cocktails a bit disappointing. Our manhattan and martini arrived in small, unattractive, un-chilled glasses filled to the brim. Disappointing for what are usually ‘presentation cocktails’. After we were seated at our table for dinner the staff were very helpful, though a bit quick to take an order, not understanding that we wished to have a relaxed meal. Once they understood that we developed an agreeable repartee with our principal server. We found the food acceptable. The standard dishes are probably fine, but our Dover Sole was over cooked. Plusses: The warm, organised welcome. The small area at the entrance in which to have a cocktail. No background music. The absence of a focus on turning tables as there was at Le Caprice. Minuses: The glassware and presentation of cocktails needs to be upgraded. A bit more attention to the preparation of some of the more refined items on the food menu. Final Comment: This will become a favourite restaurant of many, thanks to the expertise and guidance of Paul and Jesus.
Be the first to ReplyPerfect dinner location
Visited with friends we hadn't seen for a while and the whole evening was perfect. Service here is oustanding and makes Charlie's stand out head and shoulders above local competition. Food is excellent with generous portions. Special nod to the cold sirloin trolley which was incredible. Very smart to offer it as a starter or main too. Alongside the quality of service and food is the dining room itself. I would wager it's the best looking dining room in London and Olga Pollizi's expert hand is clearly on show. Worth a visit just to see the room! My only minor quibble would be the wine menu which is on the high end of pricey. Having one or two bottles around the 30 mark might make things more accessible for some as this resturant trully deserves to be savoured by all!

First, Albemarle Street, the name makes me think of ladies in swirling dresses and men in tall top hats and flowing coats..add to that the sound of clip-clopping horse horses. But no, this is the present day but with a restaurant like they used to be. From the moment we entered ( 6 for early lunch last Sunday) a feeling of happiness. A true, sincere welcome from a well-dressed maitre d, who even if he didnt remember me, pretended to, just like the era of Corbyn and King. Paul Stabbings guided us to our table near a window, in the loveliest brightest, well spaced, airy room I had been in since I left home. A table so well laid out.. everything sparkled and no hiding of the Sunday special menu, it was there in front of the regular one. Truly good value, plenty of choices and a fabulous old-fashioned silver roast trolley, and for a peasant like me Fish and Chips., so crispy it deserved to be called Tempura. The chips attracted the rest of the table, so I was only left with two. The starter had been graciously presented in a way that Barruta needs to be, and the strawberry ice cream at the end was very moreish. The wine glasses, were refilled when they needed to be, and not at every sip. The place gradually filled up, but with a really nice quiet group of people , in fact people like us ! SO, I am doing myself harm by saying you MUST visit, even if it means in future I may have difficulty getting a reservation
Be the first to ReplyWhat was the sommelier thinking?
Arriving at opening for a Sunday jazz evening we joked with the doorman whose image was that of a classic British establishment, as was the mien of Charlie’s. The original oak paneling coupled with an imaginative fresco and a classic plaster ceiling offered a mien of tradition, style, and substance. The limited dining menu we subsequently learned offered dishes creatively prepared from the best of ingredients and plated to tantalize the appetite. After a cocktail at the table we selected an English sparkling wine recommended by the sommelier who presented the bottle and she was right - it was a fine wine. So everything progressed and we anticipated an elegant evening of one jazz. When the wine glasses were not immediately replenished we signaled to the waiter who called the sommelier who had some non-understandable excuse as to why the wine had not been replenished (certainly not the we had not ordered a bottle). We suggested to the sommelier that she needed to up her game. Imagine our surprise when the wine glasses were then not later replenished as a bottle will pour more than four small glasses. So we signaled the Room Manager and told him of our dissatisfaction. After checking he returned with the implausible excuse that there had been a miscommunication as the sommelier said she believed that we had only ordered two glasses of wine. That was at best a fabrication as my wife and I had discussed with her the ordering of a bottle which she has presented and which she had not mentioned at the first replenishment. Any way, the Room Manager later apologized for the events, asserted that we were right in our anticipation of service, and offered a very meaningful reduction in the bill. Other than that incident we had a great evening with good food and smooth Great American Song Book music. We will return because it is improbable that next time the then sommelier will be so off the ball.

Had a wonderful lunch with my friend here and I was impressed with the entire experience. The atmosphere was buzzing, but not intrusive, the team was friendly and helpful, but the most memorable were the dishes - fresh and delicious! Federica and Gianluca helped us choose the best on the menu and were a pleasure to speak to. Make sure you try the Steamed Sea Bass - Federica recommended it and I loved every single mouthful.
Be the first to ReplyLovely Father’s Day
Had eaten here when it was Hix and glad to say the dining room has not changed a lot. A traditional meal of prawn cocktail, sirloin of beef then cheese. My 5 year old was very well looked after with the best set of colouring pencils we have had in any hotel or resturant, and lovely fish and chips - beautiful piece of fresh fish with a good light batter. The beef was quite rare, the maitre d’ kindly cut off the end of the new sirloin to find me rare. The veg were a little average - carrots simply cooked and some spring cabbage. The Yorkshire was too eggy. That’s my only criticism and it’s being picky. My wife loved her sea bass. The starters, in addition to the prawn cocktail, of tuna tartare and one other were delicious. Overall a lovely traditional Father’s Day. Last year we ate at The Stafford and it has the edge, but I would certainly return to Charlie’s.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous, lovely staff and amazing food.
Lucky to be walking past and found a table without reservation. From the minute we arrived the staff took care of our every need (we had a small baby too). The food was just incredible, and the bartender even mixed me a special cocktail to cure my hangover and it worked immediately. We don't visit London often but when we come back we would love to come back here. Thank you.
