CHANG'AN Tustin Reviews from The Last Year
their food is overpriced.
also service is not that good. for this price i expect better service.
The food was amazing!! All dishes came out quickly as well.
The ambience was comforting and the decor is beautiful. Highly recommend.
The food was not very authentic Xian cuisine.
Every dish is overpriced. Service was just mediocre. We spent almost $300 for two people, and were very disappointed.

I have previously had dinners at Chang'an - which is an exceptional experience - and I'm also happy to say that they are now offering a special lunch menu that is just as delicious with just as exceptional service at a very reasonable price. The food is not your typical "American Chinese" food. Instead, they offer a selection of traditional foods with tastes that are always a happy surprise. Whether it's a beef, poultry (OMG, their duck!) or seafood dish, noodle soup, bao or - my new favorite - their duck wings, each is somehow familiar and, at the same time, new and exciting. Even better is that the portions are large enough to share - or bring home for later! The restaurant is beautiful (you should even check out the bathroom!) and it's quiet - no matter how full - so it's always a lovely place to go for real conversation. Their wine selection is excellent and they offer a variety of teas that are also a pleasure if you're a non-drinker (like me). And definitely try their desserts. They're delicious! If you have a special occasion, meeting or event, Chang'an should definitely be on your list to consider - but first go with friends, family or work colleagues. You'll love it.
I had the wonderful experience of having lunch at Chang'an!
I had the wonderful experience of having lunch at Chang'an! I've eaten dinner there before, which was delicious and beautifully served, and unlike any Chinese food I've ever had. (This is not chow mein or orange chicken, but food traditional to elegant restaurants in China - a very different kind of cuisine! ) Now that Lunch Specials are being served, it was a great opportunity to try new dishes. The menu is reasonably priced and the food just as delicious! I had beef shank - flavorful and tender, pork soup buns - with a sauce that was amazing, and a delicate tofu dish with a vegetable called Toon. It was a great meal and a great introduction to new tastes! The staff is welcoming and friendly and the servers delightful in describing the dishes. The atmosphere is calm and warm. A great experience all around!

Very great experience at Chang'an! Good quality food and environment, creative dishes. Duck needs reservation but definitely worth it!! Also the golden soup taste very nice, spicy and sour flavored perfectly. Also great for dating / welcoming guest, space is quiet and pretty enough. Would come again!!
This was a higher-end dining for Chinese cuisine that I
This was a higher-end dining for Chinese cuisine that I don't normally experience much. Chinese fine dining has definitely achieved and taken on the new wave in asian cuisine. Usually we're all used to luxury dining from Japanese or some type of French-mixed fusion. I definitely understood why their location is San Gabriel didn't stand a chance compared to this location. Typically, when you're in a predominant asian area, people aren't willing to spend that type of money on Chinese food when there's a Sam Woo down the street or a Newport Seafood because typically people eat Chinese food for their lower price point. Being in LA, a lot of new flavors has been popping up and everyone has been tryna dip their toes into integrating more Asian flavors into traditional American comfort foods. This is not the case here. Now.. back to the food. I recommend taking your in-laws or family to this place and trust, they won't be disappointed. Originally when I came I was expecting more of a Hong Kong or Shanghai type of meals, but that's my fault for not looking into the restaurant before heading there. If you're a fan of Sichuan flavors, you'll definitely enjoy this place. They don't hold back on that, "mala", which is numbing spice. By the end of the meal, I could barely feel my tongue. The food was all great! They were able to balance the oil ratio properly, so I didn't have that greasy feeling after the meal. My favorite part was the roasted duck and what I believe was sea bass in stone pot. Now that's something. The duck is mandatory, but you have to call in prior to reserve one. They serve it to you as they carve it and another version of them smoking it. It was a nice dinner and show when they lit that duck on fire. They serve you the crunchy duck skin with brown sugar to get you salivating. It's a tease for sure. Then the sliced duck meat. Brought with the wrap and cucumber, hoisin, sliced scallions and pear as condiments to complement your mini Asian duck tacos. I just rolled it up like little egg rolls.
My first time trying Roasted Duck here .
So good & tasty , great service , the restaurant is nice clean , beautiful to relax and enjoy food in the same time. Will come back with more friends soon :)
not honest told us the fish is 2.
8lb bass just treat you as idiot because they may think it is first time you have the fine dinner lol btw I have a fishing boat lol I know how big the 2.8lb bass is they just gave you 1.5 pounder or so will never come back
First time here.
Won't be the last. Very pretty and quiet atmosphere though lighting a bit too subdued. Awesome friendly attentive service and such a great menu. One of the best racks of lamb I have ever had. Lots of interesting dishes. Superb Peking Duck though the "tortillas" or rice wraps are a bit chewy. Expensive but worth it.
Well I kinda liked the food, but I didn't really love all
Well I kinda liked the food, but I didn't really love all the food though... I suggest it as a four star because when I wanted a dumpling soup WITHOUT green onions. But they really put green onions on it and I actually don't want onions. Also, I want some water. While I was eating, my daughter wanted to drink some water. But after some food got served the water didn't come yet though. This is why I think this restaurant is a four star.
My husband and I were so excited to go to the restaurant on
My husband and I were so excited to go to the restaurant on Valentines Day to experience the duck, instead we got a tongue lashing from the hostess up front when we arrived. She stated we had not confirmed our order and reservations. We showed her via our phone that we had. The phone doesn't lie and she kept on accusing us of not confirming the duck, so they did NOT have it ready for us. This went on for about 10 mins back and forth instead of saying no problem we will work this out she continued to scold us. I was ready to leave but unfortunately it was Valentines Day and we had no other reservations. We were escorted to our seats. The experience we had there was less than favorable, it's a pretty expensive resturan to have this kind of experience. Please beware of how rude the front hostesses are. I would not recommend this restauran. It is pricey with an attitude totally unacceptable. There are OTHER GREAT RESTAURANTS to choose from
Food was exquisite.
Beautiful restaurant and service was excellent. The duck was delicious, moist and lean. It is definitely worth ordering. The lychee shrimp was unique and delicious. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal.

***** for Ambience ** food ** service * value We were pretty excited to come here. The idea of an upscale Chinese restaurant was exciting. And walking in was really encouraging. The restaurant decor was upscale, not your typical Chinese restaurant. The restaurant was busy too. All indications looked good. We rsvp'd the duck as recommended. But it was all downhill from there. Food was... just not good at all. We ordered several dishes and maybe 1 was decent. A lot of it went untouched because it just wasn't good. We were actually wishing we had gone to capital seafood or Panda Express during the meal. The prices were insanse. A pot of tea, min $24. Soda, $5. Bowl of soup min $20. We were willing to try though because we were so excited when we walked in. I'll pay $$$$ if the food is worth it. The service was not what you'd expect for a restaurant where entrees cost on average of $60+. We skipped our favorite part of the meal, dessert because the entire meal was so bad we didn't have any confidence in the dessert menu. The duck presentation was just that, a presentation. I've had better duck at every other Chinese restaurant in socal. Dinner for 8 with tip (2 adult drinks) came out to $1000. I looked around our table and half their plates or more were untouched. Won't come back here again.
Made reservations to surprise my wife for her birthday.
Took her and her parents that were visiting from Taiwan. We were sat even before our reservation time which was great but that is where the positive vibe ends. We sat at our table waiting for service but that was a while though I didn't time it. We ordered Peking duck and they cut it and placed it on the table with no explanation on how to eat it. My wife had had it before so she explained it to the whole table. We ran out of the side veggies and rice paper for the duck. When we asked for some more the told us they charge for that. I said it was fine e but they only brought not even half the sides that I asked for but still charged us. We ordered other dishes that came with rice and the rice came out before the other dishes. We ask them to take back the rice and to bring it out when the other dishes were ready. When we received the other dishes we didn't get any rice. I would have asked but there was no one around to help our table. When the server came around we asked him to cancel the rice because we were almost done. Besides the bad service the food itself was not worth the money spent. The total for the entire meal was over $300 and the experience was so bad that I still owed my wife a birthday meal.
Saturday dinner at 7 pm - Roasted duck, matsutake duck
Saturday dinner at 7 pm - Roasted duck, matsutake duck wonton soup, crispy beef tongue, spicy stir-field wild mushroom morels with Shanghai's bok-choy, chang'an gourd chicken, shanxi special sour chili biang biang noodles, peppercorn and tangerine peel ice cream, peach green tea Service: super attentive and excellent customer service Ambiance: modern luxury decor, love all the settings except the table was way too small, and the male restroom needs to improve the hygiene especially area around the urinals. Price: pricy Food quality: the duck was excellent, so in loved the duck meat with smoke infuse. The crispy beef tongue and the mushroom morels veggie dishes were phenomenal. In addition, the steam rice, and the ice cream brought me a next level of surprises in Chinese food. Dislike: I will skip the gourd chicken, the wonton soup and the biang biang noodles. The seasoning of the chicken and the noodles may not strong enough to satisfy my taste buds, and the soup was serving in lukewarm, that's extremely unacceptable. Due to the price point, I have a high expectations for this adventure in terms of food quality, service, ambiance and all the minor details. Except some minor issues, it's still a great dining experience. Will come back for other dishes.
It feels like you are stepping into another world.
The ambiance is amazing. We absolutely loved that the servers explain the dishes and how best to experience everything. If you are looking for a unique dinner - this is a must try!
Interior is beautiful, food is not great.
Servers here don't know what they're doing. Overall, not a good experience. Leaving disappointed. More details to the bad service : I asked a server to refill my ice water, the sever came back with steaming hot water. Asked another server to replace the water, the sever came back with luke warm water. I had to ask the THIRD time to get iced water refilled. The whole thing takes over 10 minutes, I was waiting thirsty. In an upscale restaurant like this, I would expect an easier time getting basic request fullfilled like getting iced water. Ordered an appetizer, it never came. In the end, server told us it's sold out. Could have let us know a lot sooner. Added a meat dish just to find out in the end it was never added either. What a joke.
