One of, if not the best tasting menu experience I've had!
One of, if not the best tasting menu experience I've had! My partner and I went to Causa, the first floor of the restaurant which seats 22 people for a ~3 hour immersive dining experience. The second floor of the restaurant is called Amazonia and is just a classic dining experience. Something to note here is the incredible service. There are more staff than diners on the first floor and the majority of them will come up to your table, introduce themselves, talk about the dishes, etc. We came for an anniversary dinner and each staff wished us a happy anniversary and we also received a signed card plus a drink on the house which was incredibly kind. The food was also amazing. There are 6 courses on the menu but they also add smaller snacks/one bite dishes at the beginning that are incredibly unique and fun. While we didn't leave stuffed, we also didn't leave hungry which is good for most tasting menu experiences. There is also an option to purchase whole fish/other seafood they import each morning to add to your experience. I would definitely recommend Causa if you're looking for a place to splurge on a night out!
Be the first to ReplyI feel bad for the waitress we had.
Apparently she put our orders in but the kitchen never received them? Our understanding was that things were out of her control. Cool place overall with nice embrace of upscale Peruvian vibes but the second time I came here--this time with my family who traveled cross country--was a total drag. The food took FOREVER to come out, was not filling, and we were falling asleep at the table from our wait. Our party of six got full off drinks; which were the only thing coming out in a timely manner. That said, drinks are exceptional but make sure you fill up before coming here. We were disappointed with our meal and ended the night with a trip to McDonald's--not because that's the kind of people we are but because it was the only thing open at that time. Disappointing experience after a pretty cool previous experience with friends a month before. Oh yeah--also our ceviche never came out which was pretty good the first time. This place is hit or miss, unfortunately. If you want good service and good food, do yourself a favor and go across the street to Unconventional Diner. Different cuisine but at least you'll get fed and leave happy.
Be the first to ReplyRecently tried Amazonia for the first time.
I liked the vibe of the restaurant but felt that the food was overpriced for what it was. The dishes we tried were good but nothing blew my socks off. It was nice to try but don't think I'd go back.

Amazonia was so promising, and with a bit of work, it could be a home run. I wish our experience had been better! But for nearly $300, we expected better value and service. Despite being seated almost directly in the walkway, our waitress rarely came to check on us, and we had to cancel our second round of drinks after half an hour went by and they still hadn't arrived. She also failed to notice they hadn't arrived, because she hadn't checked on us for said half hour. The patacones and skewers were delicious, as was the chorizo rice dish - and it's worth going just for drinks, as the Pisco selection is wonderful. But the Wagyu beef dish was cold, and when I requested hot tea, the cup came out half full, already steeped with no tea bag and cost $8.00 - notably more than some of the vegetable skewers! That is insane.
Be the first to ReplySooooo good! Have been a few times since they opened.
The service are very attentive and eager to give suggestions. The drinks are delicious and version of ceviche is great. And I loved in Peru so I have a high bar!

I came to Amazonia for a family dinner and everyone was very satisfied with their experience. I was most impressed by the thoughtfulness and extent of their food and cocktail menu and how everything was served to perfection. Our party of 4 ordered 6 different dishes to share. However, the portions were on the smaller side, so we had to double up on the Yuccas Rellenas, Arroz con Erizos, and Pulpo Al Josper. The last two were my personal favorites, but everything was phenomenal.

"It's not about the food, it's the experience" said the waitress, and at that point I should have known.I have a very hard time trying to understand how any Peruvian would feel that this place serves Peruvian food. In fact, at best it is Peruvian adjacent and the liberties that the chef takes are unwarranted and outright wrong. Ceviche has been staple of Peruvian food for over century, yet this clown in Washington DC decides to serve it with rocks of dry ice? Are you serious? And that's just an example of whatever is being served here. It is definitely not about the food, the waitress was right about that. This is the type of place an asshole DC lobbyist takes his mistress to prove to her that he just doesn't eat pizza, burgers and fries, but in fact, this place proves that he does. If you want good Peruvian food, I would recommend Pisco y Nazca or El Secreto de Rosita, but really good choices and much better than this. You may also see a bunch of Peruvians dinning there.

The food was yummy and the atmosphere was wonderful! This is a great date spot. Unfortunately, even with a reservation, we waited 45 minutes to be seated. Once seated it took another 20 minutes before we were able to order. We loved the food but it was frustrating to have those experiences at such a nice restaurant.

Great cocktails, great food, great vibe, great music, and great service. We went in on the Super Bowl Sunday night so it didn't feel busy; we ordered 6 drinks, 2 starters, 2 cold main dishes, and 2 hot dishes. Everything were great!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing food and environment.
We had the fish turned into ceviche + grilled and it was out of this world. Highly recommend for those who are looking for a vibrant, cool spot for dinner before hitting area bars.

OMG. What a fun and amazing time. We sat in the patio with a view to die for and our waitperson, alexia was fun and amazing, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the dinner and our experience. The ceviche was outstanding. We had several skewers and all were delicious. Pisco sours were excellent! Highly recommend.
