Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and underwhelming
Going through the motions, food and service were OK but not for a restaurant where the main dishes cost 24โฌ+. Worst things are overpriced starters and desserts. Avillez has become a tourist trap.
Be the first to ReplyCongratulations on the spectacular restaurant
Excellent meal and service. Great quality and pleasant space I recommend it, to repeat without a doubt!

Be the first to ReplyExcellent food and service
Incredible food, welcoming table, impeccable serviceโฆ we ate two starters and two main dishes. And then we went for desserts. Everything great! I went with low expectations, but I loved it!

Wonderful food, excellent atmosphere and beautiful decor. Of particular note are the mushroom risotto and salted caramel
Be the first to ReplyAnother fantastic visit to Avillez
After we had visited an Avillez restaurant in Lisbon, we think it was worth a visit in Cascais. It was not a disappointment, so it is definitely a restaurant chain we will visit again. Thank you for the food and good service.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service
The main courses are good enough for the price they cost. The starters don't follow the same path. The service is really poor when you look at the prices of the restaurant and even here a "suggested" gratification is added the the final value. Not the usual behaviour in Portugal, meaning that 'distracted' clients can pay an extra % on their meal.
Be the first to ReplyDidn't look like Avillez restaurant
Had to look twice to ensure this was an Avillez group restaurant. Service was slow and inefficient, although the restaurant was half full the service was slow and without the attention expected for the price you pay. Starters didn't surprise and 'peixinhos da horta' although might be a redesign of the original recipe they were very bad, no taste, wrong consistency, or simply badly executed. Main dish took ages to arrive, cod fish was too blend almost with no salt and egg was not correct almost like a boiled egg . It was my worst experience in Avillez restaurants. Will not come back at least to this one
Be the first to ReplyLast dinner in Portugal
Nice dinner on our last night in Portugal. Staff was very friendly & attentive. We both enjoyed our food choices, although my Cod dish was a bit underwhelming but it was still enjoyable. Nice wine list! We have tried the Chefโs other locations & Cascais lived up to expectations.

Perfect Service, Perfect Food. Absolutely wonderful place in the middle of town. This was my first voisit, hopefully not the Last.
Be the first to ReplySimple and unpretentious to a fault
"Simple, unpretentious and bearing the hallmark of chef Josรฉ Avillez." Thus said the Michelin guide. Totally nailed the simple and unpretentious part, probably too simple and unpretentious to a fault. We had the ham plate and croquette as starters and the flake cod and burger as mains for a dinner. The entire meal, while okay, just felt like any other mid-range bistro joint, as opposed to a Michelin-guide worthy outlet that some may expect and seek out. I wish the food stood out more, a lot more, so as to bear the chef's hallmark, either in taste or in presentation. At the end of the meal, I was still looking for the illusive hallmark. The only memorable element was the "exploding" olives in the cod fish plate, which probably a play on spherification. There is also a red wine under the chef's name, which is not a good by-the-glass option and was somewhat a highlight of the dinner. Maybe we picked the most ordinary dishes that didn't truly represent the chef, or the chef is simply too busy to keep tab on all his ventures. Probably if we do visit again, we would ask the staff for recommendations, the signature dishes, to see if they are better. But for this visit alone, and to be honest, I would give this only an average grade.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin guide disappointment
I was directed to this restaurant by the Michelin guide. Unfortunately it ended up to be the worst meal I had in a long time. All the food tasted like frozen meals (and probably is), only acceptable course were the cod cake (still really average). Prices way to high for what you get. The location is nicely decorated, but not enough to distract you from the low quality of the food!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent meal and waiting staff
We had a lovely time at this restaurant. All of our dishes were very good - for starters we had the scallops with avocado, the deep fried beans and the pasteis de bacalao. The waiting staff were delightful, friendly and able to joke. When we hesitated over wine the wine waiter brought us three taster glasses to try. The staff dealing with the food order were also extremely friendly and helpful, and indulgent of my obsession with the truffle butter (so good!). And all of this in perfect English. The only slight downside was at the end of the meal when it took some time to get and pay our bill. But I wouldn't take a star off for that. The bill includes a service charge which the waitress was scrupulous in pointing out to us - we were happy to add a bit more for a lovely experience.

Lovely interior, they kindly changed our table to a booth which I would recommend booking. Food was excellent, my Brazilian main course was superb. Staff were very attentive and I would upgrade to 5 stars if they didn't have such bad unnecessary background music.
Be the first to ReplyDonโt be misled because they have a Michelin plate on the wall
Highly overrated. Nice place and nice servants, butโฆ the food is very average for a restaurant owned by a chef with 2 Michelin stars in his restaurant in Lisboa. The starter, avocado ๐ฅ tempura was a disaster, 2 pieces where 1 was to green and 1 was mature as it should be. Main course was steak tartare with fries. The tartare was more or les tasteless but fries was good with balsamic dripped over it and with a taste of truffle. My wife had passion fruit with papaya. That was the best part of the dinner and very tasty.
